The responsible side of me would:
  • Pay off my mortgage.
  • Pay off other debt.
  • Help get my wife a replacement for her old car.
  • Put the rest in a rainy-day savings account.
The happy-go-lucky side of me would:
  • Get a 64 Gb iPad 3G with highest-tier data plan.
  • Buy the new Roland Jupiter-80, and a good-condition TR909 to go with it.

I'd book a flight on Virgin Galactic. When I came back down to earth I'd be booking flights all over the planet because there's a lot of it I want to see.

Depends on how much we are talking about.

For one crazy extravagance, the one thing I would want is an extended holiday. I would pack a carry on, get a taxi to Heathrow then take the next flight out to Tokyo or somewhere, whatever took my fancy. Just before the holiday started to become stale, I would fly somewhere else and repeat the process for as long as possible.

Being able to travel like that without a care in the world is one luxury I would love to have :p

Has the inevitable hookers and blow been taken? ;)

Seriously, I'd take a one year sabbatical and travel the world.

I'd build one of these except fill it with Skittles or M&Ms or something.

check the stats folks...........

94% of lottery winners end up broke, busted, bankrupt, and/or in jail only 2 years after getting their grubby little hands on da money

Yes there are exceptions, but the old adage comes to mind, in a similar context:

"Absolute power corrupts absolutely"

YOU do the math..........

Typically, those with little money tend to not do well when they come into a great deal of it.

Fixed that for you. Typically what happens to the lottery winners in rural Florida.

94% of lottery winners? That seems a little high.

Found this:
http://consumerist.com/2007/10/1-in-3-lottery-winners-broke-within-5-years.html
which would make the % of those who went broke 33% but I'm not sure I believe this site. Anyone can write anything right?

Oh, but you were asking about more frivolous things. So maybe a ride in the Vomit Comet.
So you'd win the lottery and take the Yonge St. TTC bus late on a Saturday night? ...OK... ;)

If I ever did win the lottery and not a crazy life altering amount, I'd focus hard on paying off debts. If I had any money left over, I'd go to the nurburgring and rent progressively faster and faster cars to take on the track all weekend.

If I won the Lottery or Health Lottery (as I regularly play both) I'd start with a 27" iMac a 27" display to go by the side of it (can't beat two screens and top spec of course!) a macbook air for my travels, ipad -I'd wait till mid march ;) and of course an iPhone 4s!

Well taking away the new car and stuff as requested by the OP, my "guilty pleasure" purchase would probably be fancy S&M and bondage gear ;)

Well lets see a Fractal Audio AxeFx2 and MFC101 setup.
A couple of PRS Modern Eagle 1st edition's, and a couple of PRS McCartys as well.
And probably follow Metallica around the world for one tour.

There is one thing I have always said I would do if I came into a bunch of money. I have always wanted to go back to my alma mater and establish a scholarship fund, with a twist. When I was in college, I had a small scholarship, but lost it when my GPA dropped below 3.0. My goal is to set up the Average Student scholarship. One of the requirements to qualify would be to have a sub 3.0 GPA. I suppose there would have to be limits, such as no lower than something like a 1.5 or 2.0, but otherwise, it would be for average students.

Unless you just won the last Powerball, you would be strapped to have that much money. ;)

I'd take a baseball bat and destroy somebody else's high-end car in broad daylight as much as possible, just to watch the faces of the unsuspecting witnesses. Then, I'll use the money to pay for the damage.

Ooh, a lot a displaced anger, there.

So angry at someone having a high end car??

And enjoying the shock of others at your display of rage?

my...my...my...

And when it rises above 3.0? They lose it?
