I just received my Mini today and you couldn't get the darn bluetooth mouse to work... so I used the dongle. I guess here's my answer...

Apple is reportedly working on a fix for the Bluetooth connectivity problems that some M1 Mac users have experienced since the new machines were launched back in November.

When the M1‌ MacBook Air, ‌M1‌ MacBook Pro 13-inch, and ‌M1‌ Mac mini models arrived in customers' hands, a number of owners almost immediately began reporting various Bluetooth problems ranging from intermittent disconnects of wireless peripherals to completely non-functional Bluetooth connections.

Until recently, there was no consensus on whether the issues were due to a software problem or something more deep-seated, since Apple has not commented on the issues. However, The 8-Bit notes that The Atlantic writer Ian Bogost, who has personally run into Bluetooth problems, tweeted on Sunday that Apple told him "a fix is in progress and forthcoming just about anytime."

The development will be welcomed by anyone whose use of an M1 Mac has been blighted with the issues, which reportedly affect third-party accessories like Bluetooth mice, keyboards, and headphones, as well as Apple products such as AirPods, Magic Mouse and Magic Keyboard.

Mac mini‌ owners have been worst affected, with the problems compounded by the fact that many rely on wireless peripherals to interact with their Mac in order to free up available ports. Some MacRumors staff members have also experienced similar problems.

Apple hasn't specified what's included in the coming ‌‌macOS Big Sur‌‌ 11.2 update, a beta of which is already in the hands of developers and public testers, but it likely includes performance improvements, security updates, and fixes for bugs that weren't able to be addressed in the release version of ‌‌‌macOS Big Sur‌.

So Mr Bogost is told about a nebulous “forthcoming” fix by an Apple rep and that warrants a full blown MacRumors headline and article? We all know there are M1 bluetooth issues and that Apple is working on them, but this article adds nothing in the way of real news or even credible rumor other than the fact that the info comes from a writer for the Atlantic who had talked with a customer support rep.

That makes no sense. Apple is going to have ALL Intel version replaced with M1. Why keep the Mac mini around, thus requiring support longer, if they are NOT planning to release an M* Mac mini with 64GB of RAM?
One of the last to go. Have two or three years to wait.

This is not limited to M1 Macs. Ever since I upgraded to Big Sur on a 2018 MBP, my Magic Mouse has been disconnecting frequently enough that I threw out the Magic Mouse and bought a Logitech, thinking the MM was at fault. It worked reliably before. I've had no problems with the Logitech BT connection so far, both on the 2018 MBP and M1 Air.

Really no idea what you are on about or why all aggressive.

Nobody is saying they are not intending to replace the current Intel Mac Mini.

The M1 is entry-level, that has been clear all along, a teaser for what is to come. The intel Mac Minis and Macbooks are still there as people still want/need more than that entry-level M1 can offer due to the SoC limitations, not least memory.

They are not going to simply withdraw options until the time is right. Once the M1X or M2 whatever they call it arrives it will either match or exceed the capability of the existing intel machines being sold. At that point, you will most probably see the current intel macs stop being sold and thus a complete transfer to ARM.
That is exactly my point. The higher end Mac mini with Intel still exists because they have not replaced them yet. Not sure why you think a discussion is being aggressive? The $50,000+ Mac Pro will be the last ones that will be replaced, not some higher end entry level Mac - i7 Mac mini.

Had daily issues with my Mac keyboard and trackpad randomly disconnecting.
Unplugged the Logitech MX mouse and it's fine since.

Also I don't think the issue relates to M1 Macs only. Had same problems with my 2018 Mac mini.
I had the same problem with Apple wireless keyboard and Magic Mouse. Disabling wifi will resolve the issue. Oddly, I can turn on internet sharing of a usb phone and wifi and all works fine. Others can connect to my wifi as well.

Heres hoping they fix the bugs related to waking external displays from sleep. It appears to be related to using any of the Scaled resolution options.

Amazing that Apple would ship these machines and release High Sierra with such a major bug. My 2-day old MacBook Air requires a hardwired connection to my amp/speakers for me to listen to music without constant dropouts. Come on Apple, you can do better!

Ah Apple, where now every part of the software is in a state of flux of being finished or tweaked for the next version...which means to consumers things never really looked fixed...but to the board you're getting stuff out faster and using your dollars more efficiently...oh choices.

I prefer a middle ground of having part of the team working continuously, but there have to be set aside moments of what can go into software. Proper planning and management working hand and hand with actual engineers that understand the code and hardware way better. Only reason I say that is Apple has to justify their high price, and a high experience has to be there.

This issue was exactly the same for the 2018 minis and Apple never even acknowledged it.

I personally believe it’s a hardware (shielding) issue that can’t be fixed through an update.

Avoiding using the USB-A ports and forcing the mini to only connect to 5ghz WiFi channels “fixed“ my issues.

Using Logitech’s radio frequency mice and keyboards is also a “fix”.

Kinda blows my mind that I’ve never had as much as a single Bt issue on any iOS device or my old, obsolete, 2009 mbp, or my airpods(except when connected to my 2018 mini). But the 2018 mini is such a mess in regards to Bt.

This is similar to the problem I'm having with my Logitech Mouse and Keyboard. It doesn't seem to be a bluetooth or wifi issue for me, as their USB dongle is of no help at all either. After having spent a lot of time trying to figure it all out, I'd read that the issue with the terrible lag was with the HDDs plugged into my USB-A ports.

Thinking back, I wasn't having these issues prior to attaching one of my external drives and then another for Time Machine backup. So I removed both drives and my Logitech peripherals worked trouble-free with zero lag again. Moving these drives over to a TB hub, which are on their own separate controllers, is what's needed. Seems it's something that can't be fixed via some sort of update, but I don't know.

The Bluetooth problem also affects the AirPods Pro when used with the M1. Every 5 minutes, the connection will cut out for about 1 second and then keep going as if nothing happened. Grr (insert warm fuzzy feeling words here).

Ongoing Bluetooth issues is partly why I skipped the M1 Mac Mini. Really hope Apple fixes this soon.
I own an M1 mac mini and use a bluetooth Keyboard (older Apple one with 2 AA batteries) and Mouse (Magic mouse 2) with it without ANY problem whatsoever.
I'm sure there are use cases that don't work properly, but it's not at all not every single M1 mac mini has Bluetooth issues either.

Of course. I had enough problems with Bluetooth with my 2013 iMac, I’ll wait. Glad your M1 Mini is fine.

I can confirm...on my M1 Mac Mini the magic mouse 2 (brand new) sometimes disconnects-reconnects-disconnects-reconnects for 5 minutes.
After that it becomes stable again, but it's still very annoying.

Considering that Apple released the second beta of 11.2 today, it wouldn't surprise me if the Bluetooth fix might come with that release in a few weeks.

Just received my m1 mac mini 16 GB RAM with 1 TB storage. Love it. No wifi or bluetooth issues So far... No stuttering, delays or time outs. Using Apple’s magic mouse, keyboard and a Logitech MX 2 mouse With a LG 27UL850-W. Quiet, runs cool..no sound, does not get hot when both CPU and GPU rendering at full capacity..

Someone has to pinch me so I wake up.:). Its a dream mini!

Same here! I solved my m1 Mac mini Bluetooth issues by turning off WiFi. But after I realized I lost Handoff/Continuity and AirDrop, I decided to turn WiFI back on, and all my BlueTooth devices (Magic Keyboard and Mouse) instantly disconnected!

But I should also mention WiFi is a mess too! I turned off WiFi and switched to ethernet because my new M1 was only using the 802.11n over 2.4 GHz signal from my AirPort Extreme. That gave me about 20Mbps download (over ethernet I get 200Mbps). I had to invest in a new mesh router system, which allowed me to get ethernet to my M1, but I can't really test the WiFi performance or else it kills my bluetooth devices.

Great to hear that everything works fine for you. It's quite surprising that some people have significant issues with Wifi and Bluetooth, and others none whatsoever.

Not to mention, the bigger issue of being bluetooth 5.0 only, which you'll all hate when 5.2 becomes mainstream this year...

I, too, have had issues with the Bluetooth being flaky. Fortunately, I read of a solution that has worked for me ( Mac Mini 8GB RAM, 256 SSD): I am using a wired network connection and had had my WIFI connected as well. Turned off the WIFI and voila! Cystal clear Bluetooth headphones - as good as wired.

OK - this is a workaround and very unhelpful for notebook users....but it really DOES work if you still have wired connectivity......

Good luck until Apple deigns to issue a proper fix!

Yes, I was already preparing for the hit when I got it, but to my surprise so far no issues.

It would be interesting to know which batches of M1’s generally have the issues (if it can be observed). These M1’s are “made to order” so mine was probably made some time (guess) in early January (about two months after first waves of systems had gone out).

“if” there are any hardware issues maybe they corrected it already since these are “hot” new products that have to impress (though Apple has rumored to be working on a software fix).
I usually wipe the system out first when receiving...but this time I didn’t since the Bluetooth works (maybe a software fix was added during the assembly if they already know).

We will see what happens when 11.2 comes out..
