I'm sure it's no consolidation, but at least know you're not alone. Add me to the list of naive seller who got shafted selling an iPhone to a former Soviet block country, in my case Ukraine.

Buyer claims he got the package, but it only had the box, and the case he bought but no phone. Even though I had proof the parcel was delivered, Paypal of course ruled against me.

Lesson learned.

Though reading some of the stories on here makes me wonderif it did indeed get stolen at the post? I had assumed that the buyer shafted me but now I'm not totally sure.

"If he dies, he dies."
- Ivan Drago, meanest Russian ever

eBay has really gotten to the point for me where it really isn't worth it. They have made it increasingly easy for the buyers to scam the sellers. Craigslist is obviously just as bad with a little danger added on top. GameStop is where I'll go from now on, as long as they keep that program.

It's Gazelle for me from here on it. Although Gamestop is great if you want to get some store credit.

man this makes me sick.. I'm not one to be naive, but this sucks. I've sent lots of packages to Poland to my family without any problems via USPS, tracking was always accurate.

Anyone have experience getting an IMEI blacklisted?

I was thinking that I should have wiped the iPhone and set it up as a new device with generic info and put a passcode on it with a lock screen photo saying something like "if you stole this phone I will find you" or "to unlock this phone email xxxx" that way even if they try to wipe the phone it will be useless. Also, if it actually makes it to the buyer I will know because they will have to ask me for the passcode.

Sorry man, it does suck.
But its too late now.
Even if you could blacklisted it would be only for US GSM carriers.
It will still work fine on any country outside the US.

Op said tracking was delayed when it hit customs. Does it them come back online when it gets shipped? Can u have PayPal reopen the case when it gets delivered?

I'm starting to feel the same way about eBay, it's not worth it anymore.

I opened a claim with USPS. waiting to hear back.

I used print a shipping label link through paypal, never even heard of ebay international shipping

It's not eBay it's you. I have sold over 250 things on eBay and never been ripped off. You need to be a little smarter.

Just raise a dispute with Ebay. After 8 days you can escalate the case to an ebay representative who will make the final decision. The important part is to raise a case with both courier and Ebay. I bought an Iphone 5 recently from a buyer who claimed it was in excellent condition. It was far from excellent! The damn thing was bent and filthy! Obviously had it in her pocket and sat down. Claimed I was trying to scam her. She soon shut up after I opened a case against her but a stressful 8 days to say the least. This then made me decide to go for a new Iphone direct from apple.

Good luck with your case man! I feel for you!

I can't open a claim with eBay since the buyer opened a claim with Paypal already. I'm on hold with USPS right now, been waiting for 45 mins. I opened the case 2 days ago and was told I would get a call back in 24-48 hours. Of course I haven't been called.

Just gonna have to wait it out and pray that I'm not being scammed. If I was the buyer I would be in the same position, package has not been delivered I would open a claim.

+1
USPS only to send letters!!!!

AT&T sent my iPhone 5s to me USPS HAHAHAHAHA! I love usps. I shipped my 5 on a Saturday from PA and it arrived in California on Monday for $6.51.

Considering I put my 5 on eBay for $400 buy it now and sold it within 5 minutes I don't see why you would want to sell to a foreign country. It's just not worth it.

I use to ship international on ebay
NO LONGER! Last 2 iPhones shipped to Russia,GONE, One Stolen in customs the other, the oil' I never got it senario.
I couldn't even get insurance back, because Russia has a ban on Mobile phone importants,at least they did last year.
You are out of luck your phone and money are gone, just Google Russian customs thefts and Russian iPhone theft you will see what I mean.
Sorry, but take it as an expensive lesson learned.
If you are going to sell an iPhone,do it locally. You will only get burned internationally:mad:

----------

Oh,it takes longer than 6-10 days to get to Russia and through customs.
It takes over 3 weeks
Is it still in customs? In can take up to 5-7 days just to clear,so it might be it still in customs.
but I can guarantee paypal will refund his money,if you don't have the funds in your paypal account to cover it,they will put a hold on it until they get their money.

----------

On the imei, even if you get it black listed,it will only work herein the US
They will still be able to use it internationally

I cannot speak to individual country deliveries, but per eBay Policy (which also owns and controls PayPal), if you provided tracking, insurance, and required signature delivery, you are covered under seller protection regardless of the delivery location.

If you shipped it to Russia through eBay's global shipping program, then you are responsible for the package only until it reaches the US Based global shipping center, eBay is responsible for it from that point on.

I've had issues with this, and PayPal has ALWAYS ruled in my favor. Even if you didn't require signature delivery, but did provide tracking and insurance, they will still find in your favor, but you may be required to wait 30 days.

Wrong!!! I shipped with insurance, signature delivery and all the above
And the two iPhones I lost to Russia I was not covered by seller protection

You got scammed, either by the buyer (most likely) or someone in customs.

These 'buyers' know tracking can't be followed when the package reaches their country, so they pay fast and also complain to paypal fast. I hope the USPS insurance covers you at least. GL

You have sold 250 high priced items to people in Russia

Why people ship to Russia by USPS when Paypal policy clearly says signature is required?

Even if you insist to ship by USPS why would you describe the content as iPhone instead of electronic device for example?

Sellers don't do right thing but they blame everyone else. I understand that FedEx and ups are expensive but the cost of shipping is paid by buyers not sellers.

If someone in customs took the iPhone then customs did not scam him. If the buyer never got the phone because it was stolen, the buyer did not scam him.

If the buyer has the phone and claims he does not, the seller was scammed. Since the seller was mindless and sent something to another country via USPS where tracking is notoriously terrible just city to city, then there are so many opportunities for this to go south, fast.

This is why I hate eBay. On top of all the damn fees that take a very LARGE chunk of your profit.

It's the buyers responsibly to know his own country's rules, not the seller.

If your country has a ban on something, DONT BUY IT!

That would have been brilliant. Update to iOS7, then lock the device with a passcode and an activation lock. Hilarious! Would be criminals would get the hint pretty quickly. Well at least until they figure out how to 'jailbreak' the activation lock.

That's actually a pretty good idea when shipping phones with iOS7 on them: Create a temporary iCloud account, activate FMI on the phone with it and wipe it remotely (leaving it at the activation on)

Tell the recipient to let you know when it's been delivered and you'll provide them with the password to get round the lock and they can then set it up as they want. That way, they can't claim they haven't received it and if they try and scam you they're left with a brick
