oh man... I just dealt with a foreign first time ebayer who was only in the US for a shot time... I sold him my 3g for 465! He had it for an entire MONTH and emails me saying the charger is broken and the headphones are used, and the case is torn! A WHOLE MONTH LATER HE'S COMPLAINING!! I was so pissed and mad that he would lie and try to take advantage of me! Items were perfect when I sent them... I log onto ebay and of course he's trashed my 200+ perfect feedback with a negative feedback! Not to mention he threatened to sue me!! WTF!?

Be careful buddy lots of shady people out there on ebay.

Thats dirty. All I can say.

I wouldve done it through craigslist, cash only in person. You probably have to settle for less but you don't have to worry about the whole eBay process. Yeah you sold it for 450 but then there's the eBay fee, the paypal fee which they hold the funds until buyer receives the product. Ehh I hate all that. I sold my 3g for 350 just yesterday. It was an 8gb. I'm happy with what I got. And the money is in the bank. Btw I took my fake bill detector marker just to make sure.

Also if you sell a item on eBay over $250 you need a signature confirmation not just a delivery confirmation or Paypal will not back you up if you have any problems. As long as you got payment you can ask the buyer to leave feedback first before you ship the item so you can have the money in your accounts since they will probably hold it for 21 days since you have under a 100 feedback. This should not be a problem because the buyer can still do a claim, paypal does not care about the feedback left when someone is doing a claim. Goodluck because it does not matter what country a person is from if the want to cause trouble they will.

Yup. Something like an iPhone you can easily sell local and get cash for it. No scam since you can meet in person. eBay has too many scammers and PayPal is a load of BS because it's soooo easy to steal money or items through their transactions.

What's the problem if you got the payment? Send him the phone?

Because the buyer is likely using a stolen PayPal account and when the real owner of the account reports the charge as fraudulent, they will file a dispute with PayPal who, despite the BS they say about seller protection, almost always sides with the buyer, and the seller will lose the phone and the money. This is a textbook eBay/PayPal scam.

Some people should not be allowed on the internet. So, you sell your phone on eBay and after it's sold and you get the money you come here asking for help and asking questions that should have been asked BEFORE you even started? Then you start asking questions that should be second nature to you and quite honestly, tell me that you should not be selling anything online to begin with.

Your bright. You must be one of the several hundred people I read about that got "scammed" because they had 0 common sense.

yup. the warning? don't sell anything online if you don't know what you're doing. the odds of an iPhone buyer with broken English NOT being some sort of scam are slimmer by the day.

I'm sorry, but it's funny how in the sentence "Your bright" you used the word your incorrectly.

Scammer can be not only buyer but seller. I would not leave any feedback until I receive the package, see what is inside the package, and check dead on arrival. Scammer can send a stone instead of phone . It is not easy for buyer to claim after leaving feedback and signing on the delivery confirmation.

I may have missed it in one of the replies, but you need to know that eBay requires proof of delivery with a signature confirmation for any item costing more than $200. Delivery confirmation alone is not sufficient if there is a dispute. It costs more to get a signature, but do it for your own protection, regardless of whether you are concerned about a buyer or not.

The plot thickens lol

now what? how should i proceed with the "buyer"?

When in doubt....

This proves that you can start a thread about anything on MacRumors. I think I might start a thread about unusual rashes, and what we can do to stop them.

the funny thing is that you and your troll self bumped the thread back to front page... and you complain about threads taking up too much space and you add to them... sucking up peoples bandwidth with senseless retorts over a thread that shouldn't have insulted you in the first place!

I'm an experienced ebay seller with nearly 500 feedback, Do not under any circumstance send this phone to the buyer, Only ever communicate through ebay with buyers as records will be kept and only post if they have a confirmed/verified address and live in the country you live in, always send the item by a recorded mail service which needs a signature.

Just the fact that he is trying to get you to contact him out of ebay flags him as a scammer immediately. I've been through this experience so many times now it's getting boring so I don;t sell so much on ebay anymore.

Meet somewhere public to reduce the likelihood of a mugging attempt and be prepared to defend yourself and your property if needs be.

Definitely check with PayPal and ensure that the money is on hold with your PayPal account. Don't accept an email that is made to look like a PayPal email. You can call PayPal as well to determine if the money is on hold with them; that's your best option when dealing with any iPhone being sold via eBay and PayPal...:eek::eek:

maybe something to do w/ difference in a feedback score? i think mine is like a 95.
I think it's if you have less than 100 score, and a few other conditions (% of positive feedback, how often you sell, etc.). Personally I feel it's hostile towards sellers. I know it's to protect buyers, but still. I recently sold my 2G iPhone there and the amount is on hold for 21 days (or until the buyer leaves feedback, which they haven't I take that back, they left positive feedback today).

There's really nothing more you should do at this point. There are other buyers. You should be able to tell from the responders to your post that this is probably a scam. You can ask all the questions you want about the process (which should be in another forum), but the sell with the foreigner you speak about is just a really, really bad idea. So, opening a new post in another forum about Ebay and Paypal is my suggestion. You can keep posting here, but you risk getting trolls. At any rate, forget about this sell. Move on.

$450 is pretty high for 3G, hence it makes sense it's from a scammer. Plus if you are a new eBay user yourself, chances are other experienced and reliable eBay users won't pick you to buy from.

Send him the phone.

Seriously, are you asking us what to do next even though the whole thing was just spelled out for you? $450 for a 3G phone is MORE than it's worth. That should have been a DING DING DING notice for your brain right there.

Sell it locally and stop pussyfooting around.

Fly to Ukraine or whever the hell he's from and give him the phone, duh

eBay has gotten hostile towards sellers lately, first that, and now I'm also pretty sure sellers can't leave negative feedback for buyers, correct?

It's why I won't bother selling anything on eBay anymore. I'll occasionally buy, but selling just isn't worth the hassle anymore.

eBay has gotten hostile towards sellers lately

Yesterday I put an OEM version of vista home premium on eBay. I thought this would be ok for 2 reasons: -

1) I bought it from eBay myself.
2) I searched and there were at least 10 copies of the same software being sold already.

Within 10 minutes my listing was removed and they didn't refund me :\
