In addition to fast battery drain, my AirPods Max are often reluctant to reconnect to my device after sitting idle. I often need to toggle my Bluetooth off and on, remove my headphones, and/or restart my device.

Annoying!

I got my Max yesterday. They were at 84% when I put them in the Smart Case before I went to bed. Eight hours later I went to use them and they had dropped to 67% (that’s a whopping 17% drop).

I’ve just now done a factory reset and I then turned off automatic switching. I read that these sometimes fix the battery drain issue so I will see how things go while they are left overnight. If the battery drain is still there tomorrow, they will be getting returned.

I will post back with the results.

Just to update:

I left the Max in the case for five hours. I’ve just checked the battery now and it only has dropped 1%.

Based on the 17% drop overnight (which was eight hours) I would’ve expected (if the bug was still present) the drop to be around 8 to 9% over the five hour period I’ve mentioned.

Just to clarify I done a factory reset and I then turned off automatic switching.

I will try again overnight and monitor any drop and post back on here. A one or 2% drop overnight is what I would expect if things are working like they should.

Just to update:

I had 42 percent in the Max just before midnight. I have just went to use them now (some 20 hours later) and the battery has dropped to 33 percent. Which is a big drop considering after 18 hours of them been in the case they will have went into ultralow power mode that turns off Bluetooth and Find My.

Usually I have zero problems with Apple products and I also don't have issues with software bugs etc, but I think I will be returning them for a refund. I might wait a few weeks and reorder another pair. Hopefully by this time and the time it takes to receive them, Apple may push out a firmware update to fix the battery drain. Time will tell.

Very annoyed as everything else I absolutely love about the Max.

A five percent drop left in the Smart Case over 10 hours.

I defintely think its a bug, as the battery amount dropped, is not consistant over the same period of time.

I might wait a few weeks and reorder another pair and see if that pair is any different. Never know, by the time it takes to receive them, Apple may have a firmware update pushed out to fix this battery drain issue.

Everything else about the Max, I absolutely love.

I'm experiencing this issue too. Sometimes my phone will connect the headphones even when they are in their smart case and I'm in a different part of the house. If I don't leave them plugged in overnight the battery is already dead the next day. So annoying! iPadOS and iOS 14.4 and firmware 3C16
