At this point with botched rollouts of MacOS 26, iOS 26, iPadOS 26, the Glass UI update and the utter debacle of Siri, Apple is in real danger of becoming in some ways of being looked at like Intel. An aging tech behemoth who makes some of the best slideshows and presentations on new technology but utterly fails to execute on the promised technology those slideshows present time after time.

Oh, Siri? Who is Siri? ;)

Have to ask ChatGPT...
Well…when you set up ChatGPT in Apple Intelligence that’s what Siri does. “Hey Siri…what are you exactly?” “That is beyond my scope of knowledge. If you like I can forward this question to ChatGPT. Would you like me to do that?”

With all of the money and engineering that Apple has they should be able to release a decent 8b model at the very least

I love all the people downplaying the concerns.

Folks - this is Siri we are talking about.

It's HOT GARBAGE.

What on Earth has Apple done anytime recently to assuage anyone's concerns about their ability to execute in this space?
Whether it's Siri or Apple Intelligence or both combined, it remains fascinating that the Cupertino company continues to underperform year after year.

No matter what one thinks of or cares about AI, this is making the company look bad.

It's only natural to compare them to the other giants like Google and in that context they are failing dreadfully.

Except for the promised “privacy”. That’s the elephant in the room.

Privacy on the internet is an illusion so they really would need to have it all on device which just isn't going to happen unless it sucks balls as it currently does.

Oh boy..

Last time there were "concerns" leaking out, Apple* pushed out the Vision Pro flop.

*well, in reality, Tim Cook personally forced it out hoping for his own iPhone moment
And it’s my fav thing they’ve released in ages. Actual innovation and exciting to use unlike everything else that’s getting stale

I don’t think I could find a better example of being delusional. Very few products in Apple’s history are more a flop than the Vision Pro is. It’s so bad it only had a minor upgrade years later and it’s almost guaranteed to be discontinued altogether. If this is not a flop I don’t know what is.
I have been in the Apple Store quite a few times since the VP was released and I have never seen a single person in the busy store at its table testing it. I think it is neat, but a flop. Maybe the software will eventually become relevant in a future a mass consumer device, but in its current form and price that won’t happen.

The only legitimately good lessons to be learned from Apple are the ones that came from its former (and deceased) visionary founder. Those after him are just Wall Street mouthpieces.
That’s a lesson that’s clearly taught wrong. However having said that maybe Apple needed to change course. But in some respects debating this is pointless because this is where we are today.

I was recently at the Apple store in the champs-Elyse and there a room filled with people for demos of the AVP.

What was botched with the 26 rollout? I have had no major issues on my devices. Also, AI has not been a major hardware seller for Microsoft (most PCs purchased in the last year have minimal Copilot capability) and I highly doubt it will be for Apple either.

The fact that my 17PM/iOS26 runs much slower than my 14PM/iOS17 tells me 26 is pretty much “botched”.

Gurman’s endless negativity has always bothered me. Every paragraph in here includes a swipe. All for the well-earned criticism, but it's just tiresome. I know mostly everyone hates everything Apple: Tim, AVP, Liquid Glass, Apple Intelligence, on and on, but their revenue makes it seem like a lot of people don’t. Of all the aforementioned companies lapping Apple in AI, how many are making more actual money? Or even within striking distance? That may soon change, but will it be around March?

I use Siri and it works fine for what I use it for. The only thing I will be looking for is how to turn the AI **** off. If I can’t then I will stop using Siri.

Would the good lessons learned also include the dozen+ flops its former visionary founder introduced?

It’s probably a marginal upgrade that still leaves Siri years behind and will be even more underwhelming now that it’s been delayed for a year.

My 17PM with iOS26 smokes my wife’s 14P on iOS 18. My 16PM with the beta of iOS26 smoked my wife’s 14P with iOS 18. Maybe there is something wrong with your device. My M3 Mac and my iPad Pro M4 also run as well with 26 as they did before 26.
