Well, if I choose to get one I'll wait a month anyway to make sure there are no major defects.

That is a rational decision, and it has happened with some Apple hardware (and everyone else's). If there are hardware problems, it'll take more than a month to get the v.1 hardware out of the channels, though.

Curious, BTO what?

The only CTO (or BTO) option is the 1.3gHz CPU upgrade, as far as I know.

----------

I like the looks too but, if it were for looks alone, I wouldn't buy it. I miss the illuminated Apple logo.

If I buy one of these, it's going to be standard aluminum. No way I'm rubbing everyone's noses in the fact that I just splurged on a new laptop.

Used to work at Apple and have many friends who still do. Have been told by many people that they will NOT have them in stores for sale on the 10th, but available to try out. They SHIP the 10th, meaning apple will most likely get them retail the following days.

Huh? That's not even logical. Ships refers to people who order them. Apple doesn't say "ships on XX day" meaning that's the day they ship them to the stores.

Funny how there are so many "inventory experts" working in retail.... and it's so funny how someone is sure about this, yet if you ask any manager at any store, when it comes to new releases, they say the same thing "We don't know what we get until we open the box" ... their system that tells them what's in transit doesn't tell them when it comes to new products.

I give as much credibility to your comments as I give to my horoscope in the daily paper.

Interesting post from the OP. However, I have spoken with all three Apple stores the Northern Virginia/DC area and all three have clearly stated the shipment will arrive on the 9th and they will have the device for sale on the 10th.

What? Common, you mean your most trusted source of information is a comment from someone who used to work in an Apple Store from one of their friends who works in an Apple Store?

I'd say the LEAST reliable information regarding Apple products is information that comes out of the mouth of an Apple Store Employee.

It's going to be available in the store April 10... but hey, if you want to believe the words of someone working in a retail store (the last in the supply chain to know when they're getting something in stock - and generally don't know what new products are in-transit until the regional drop-shipment comes in the day of and they open the box).... so be it.

You do realize the QA process doesn't work like that, right? Production process takes a LONG time to setup, and they don't just change it on the fly for minor issues. It's likely the manufacturing process won't change until Rev B (the next spec bump)... Not sure why people always say they want to wait for the kinks to be worked out. When a new cereal comes out, do you wait a year to buy it so they can work the kinks out? When a CD\album comes out, do you wait to download it until they remove any Rev A blemishes in the recording? LOL...

Any Apple product comes with a warranty... for this reason exactly. But hey, wait 4 weeks and see if the product is any different, haha

Wrong. Inaccurate.

Apple Store Employees = #1 Source for Inaccurate Information

FYI to all: This user has been dark for 6 months. His last post claimed that an Apple store employee told him that even if he didn't get an order confirmation from Apple.com on his iPhone 6 pre-order, that he still had a phone.... which turned out to be WRONG. He also stated that he talked to an Best Buy Manager friend when the 5S was about to come out, and was told that even if he paid full price, the phone would be carrier locked and unable to be unlocked... which also turned out to be WRONG. Not sure why he only seems to surface every 6 months before a product release, and always comes online with misinformation. I almost wonder what his motive is.

I meant wait a month to see if there are issues, not to have them fixed. I assume if some exist than Macrumors will be full of complaints within a month. If that's the case I'll wait until version 2.

I should have been more clear. I'll wait at least a month to see if there are any issues. If design issues are prevalent than Macrumors will write a story (or one of the other 6 news sites of frequent) will report on it within a month.

If there is a problem, I'll wait until later this year or version 2 to get one.

I jumped on chat with Apple and got this response: "They will be shipping out on April 10th, so I am sure they will be in stores soon!" and "They have been announced, but a release date has not been set yet."

I called the 5th Avenue store and got the same runaround.

I'm traveling on the 10th and was really hoping to run into a store and grab one before I headed to the airport... Really hoping I still may be able to do that.

(Sorry for the poor photo. Evidently when you try and screen grab the convo, it jumps to the bottom of the page..)

Yes, Ive been dark for 6 months because I like to read the forums. I am just saying what Ive been told, Have i been told wrong? Probably. And how do you know "SO MUCH" about me. The best buy phone WAS NOT carrier unlocked by default because A: It was AT&T and I was misinformed by THEM NOT ME and they said that "They have to buy from apple" I did NOT say it CANNOT be unlocked, I said IT DOESNT COME UNLOCKED. Jeez, THIS Is why ive dark "Motive" is just sharing what IVE been told. THIS is why I dont post.

To make EVERYONE feel better or whatnot, The thread title has been changed.

Does this include Montgomery Mall? (My choice of :apple: Store :) )

Sorry, I only called Tysons, Pentagon and Clarendon!

I have a fantastic idea. How about we all wait until the 10th of April and then see who's right and who's wrong? Brilliant idea eh?

Also stopped into the Chelsea store after work the other day and got a pretty confident, "Yes, they will be available on the 10th, but they should go on pre order before then."

I hope they are right. I'd like to preorder for in-store pickup. I'm not as convinced as I was before about getting the 1.3GHz BTO.

I am becoming impatient and I wonder if the 1.3GHz version might actually be a bad choice since it will more quickly reach the 5W thermal throttling. If the chips aren't sorted for lower voltage operation, you're not gaining much for the processor upgrade. Maybe it will get the work done a little sooner but you'll still generate the same amount of heat.

I'm still in the 1.3GHz camp!

I'm wavering (but not convinced either way yet).

It just bothers me that Intel doesn't seem to charge more for the higher frequency Core M parts. I'm sure Apple will, though.

Agreed... Though it seems that the order from Intel is probably not the stock chip in any configuration because of the disparity between 4.5W and 5W as listed and the fact that Intel hasn't announced a 1.3GHz chip.

I'll be annoyed if Apple charges more than $100 for the chip upgrades. Then again, I wouldn't surprised as Apple likes to make a premium profit on their BTO premium devices.

I'm hoping that Apple got Intel to sort chips according to operating voltage and that the 1.3GHz are better. Then I'd get the 1.3GHz BTO for sure (and be quite happy to pay an extra $100 to Apple).

I just figure that since it'll be my only Mac, I might as well max it out. I'm already going for 512GB as it is.

The 512G is a given for me. I am currently surviving with only 128G on my 11" MBA. 512 G will give me lots of breathing room. Even room for Windows bloat ware.

I suppose the 1.3GHz version's 2.9GHz turbo mode is really what is important. I just wish the GPU clocks also could boost higher than the 1.1GHz version.

Just figured I'd update this. Last week when I spoke with Apple they said they didn't know anything but I should check again as the 10th approaches. I hopped on chat today and got a very straight forward answer.

Yes the new rMB will be for sale in store and online on the 10th.

Yes you can order online to avoid the hoards people who are pissed off that they can't walk into an NYC Apple store on the 10th and try out a shiny new :apple:Watch. for in store pick-up.

Do you work as an investigator? I enjoyed that, lol
