If your iPad 3 has 5.1.1 you might be better off keeping it. With exchange you are cornered into Maps mess and expensive lightning.

THIS... i love the ipad 3, its not that far off of the ipad 4, but it was a really sleazy move on apple's part to just refresh the ipad altogether... (mostly for the processor and the connector)...

seeing that 4th gen screenshot in the blog was a bit of a slap in the face, since bought the ipad 3 on day one... and then remembered that it came out in march...

/etc

I feel fine. My old iPad was way out outdated. I sense that apple needed to do this because by then it was not ready and they seem to have a plan. Good for the fellas that will enjoy this new toy. Mine is still looking good... Will hold it for two more generarions I think

People that think its not that big of a jump with that a6x processor must not have upgraded from a 4s to an iPhone 5. Itz blazing. :p

Can we get a 6 month window for those who get scammed by Apple back in March?

Scammed, let's see, Apple updates generally come out once a year, although, updates have rolled out earlier than a year in the past. How is that being scammed? Maybe the impulsive "I have to have it now" mentality is what really scammed you?! Such immature people...

Releasing a new iPad only seven months after the last one. This sucks, this is not the way to treat your customers. Oh wait, why do I care, I am still rocking the iPad 1

Amen to that, I can't even update to the latest iOS yet my iPad is continuing to work just like it always has. It still does what I need (or want) it to do. I don't get this constantly needing to have the latest and greatest, why not use what you have until it no longer fulfills your needs?

Looks like the first half of 2013 will be boring. I don't imagine they'll update the iPad again in March.

I quite liked the iPad (March/April) - Macs (June-July) - iPhone/iPods (Sep-Oct) lineup over the course of the year. It was nice and neat and didn't steal my money all at once.

As an employee of Apple I can confirm that all retail Apple stores will give a 30 day window of time to exchange a product if a newer model is released. This only applies if you purchased the product from an Apple store. Meaning if you bought it at a Walmart or best buy etc this does not apply.

I just find it funny how when a new electronic device comes out the one they had all of a sudden just doesn't work as good anymore.

It's seriously funny. The day before the keynote: "The iPad is simply great. I love my iPad 3 and does everything I need it to do." The next day a new one is announced. "Thanks Apple for screwing me over, this iPad isn't nearly as good and now I'm screwed!"

I will always love Apple, however if iPad3 buyers are not greatly, emphasis on greatly, compensated my loyalty is gone. I feel swindled and disrespected. We made Apple what it is today, they need to reimburse us immediately or they lost the war before it even started...

I dont understand how this is news. Apple stores are always pretty lenient on their return policy. I returned my IR-ridden-display-replaced-3-times rMBP15 when it was well into 6 weeks of my purchase.

That's enough for most people not to be exasperated (although i was a bit persistent with bothering the Apple Store managers around me until one of them admitted they had a system which they could find me a Samsung display ;))

This is news for people that are outside the 14 day window. I for one will be returning my iPad 3 for the new iPad, but I am in the window. If I weren't then this would be big news.

maps is ok for most of us (in the US).

No they are just stupid. Apple has been updating every iOS device ONCE A YEAR. This ipad update came at 7 months, sooner than expected and leaves those who bought it with a bad taste in their mouths. If you can't understand that you need more help than what this online forum can give.

So 7 months = "scam".
12 months = "not a scam".

Got it.

The iPad 3 does exactly what it did on the day it was purchased.

And people who bought an iPhone 4S 7 months before the iPhone 5 was released aren't stupid. They bought a device because they needed it. It didn't stop working when a new one came out. The only reason to be upset is if you need to have the latest and greatest for the sake of having the latest and greatest.

It's a talent to find a way to blame back no matter what. You should find your spot in politics if you're not already; you'll be quite successful.

New iPad Owner

I got the "NEW" Ipad about 2 weeks ago. I was a little surprised to see this 4th Generation iPad come out so soon. I wonder if they are trying to synch up the product release cycle. That would make sense unless we see something happen this coming March. Personally I can understand how some folks feel a little let down here. iPads aren't exactly cheap and there is a certain pride one takes when they do decide to spend the money on the latest and greatest. I still think my iPad is amazing but luckily for me I have a 30 day return window so I have plenty of time for the newest one to come out so it should be a nice even exchange. :)

Not sure if this was mentioned but pretty sure Steve Jobs would never have allowed a November release of the newest iPad.

Amazing did you transplant his brain into your head to know magically everything he would do?

If you are dissatisfied with an item, you can request a return through Order Status. For eligible Mac, iPad, iPod, and third-party products, you have up to 14 calendar days from the time you receive your item(s) to initiate a return.

No point in arguing with you since you demonstrate you clearly can't grasp the concept I've put before you. I never said the word scam. You did. Apple has broken their yearly hardware update of iOS devices with this latest update. People that bought the ipad3 on launch feel they got somewhat of a raw deal. If you don't understand then don't try to, I wouldn't want you to injure yourself.

It may be annoying, however if it is at least six months between updates that is just the world of tech, now a month or two I can see there being an issue.
