This is pretty crazy. Just for kicks i put my iPad 2 up on craigslist to see what would happen. It's opened and not sealed in the box.

I got 10 offers all above cost within 20 minutes.

Crazy.

Right now it's about a $600 premium for an unopened 3G 64GB AT&T models on ebay. People can make that much of a profit in hours and that adds to the problem.

Artificial supply and demand!

I don't think that's the case... if they had 2 million in stock I'm sure they'd get them off to stores.... but I think it's a matter of they shipped what they had. The next shipment came in and now they are just dealing them out to channel as much as they can.

Now with that said.... they are amazing at creating hype and making the stores wait until 9am is marketing genius.

However... it's also good for the loyal fans as they now know... if you really want one now, go to your Apple store tomorrow at 9am and you can get one. If they just opened the creates whenever they arrived, they would sell out to whoever was there at the time.

Other business should really take note on how Apple markets. Think about it... did you read about lines for the Xoom? Did they sell out? If it wasn't for the commercials, I don't think 99% of consumers would even know it exists. Whereas most people know the new iPad is out and hard to get. Genius!

BTW... I mean all this in a good way. I think it's great that not only can Apple make some the best tech gadgets out there, but they also know how to make them fun/exciting/cool to own. Far cry from where they were 1995.

Sounds like a good method to get more of them into customers' hands. More orderly than having people constantly calling in and having to tell them "I don't know."

"What you don't have you don't need it now...don't need it noooooww, it was a beautiful dayyyyyy" (by U2) :D

I agree. It was crazy to have people come into the store multiple times a day waiting for a shipment to arrive. At least you know that you can ONLY get it by waiting in line at 9 AM each morning.

Of course, you have no idea if they even have a shipment and if so, how many and what models. So it kinda defeats the purpose. They need to post the per store stock each morning before 9 like they used to. At least people will then know if they even hae a SHOT at what they want. That would bring some sanity to the otherwise insane.

IThen of course, my 64-Black-Verizon iPad is stalled in "Prepared for Shipment". I am considering buying one at the Apple store tomorrow if this is post is true and then canceling the online order or selling it when it arrives.
.

Once it's "Prepared for Shipment", you can't cancel.

A few Chicago stores said tomorrow morning is a go, a bunch of other sites are chiming in with more info. Gigaom confirms NY:

"A call to the Walden Galleria Apple Store in Buffalo, NY confirmed that the early opening is indeed the case,"

http://gigaom.com/apple/some-apple-stores-opening-early-tomorrow-for-dedicated-ipad-sales/

Sounds like we need to line up in the morning:

"One store representative told us that demand has been huge and they are getting a large number of store visits and phone calls inquiring about the new iPad, adding that they are expecting lines to form early in the morning. "

http://osxdaily.com/2011/03/14/ipad...omorrow-morning-several-apple-stores-confirm/

And people claim they're going to camp on 9t5:

http://www.9to5mac.com/56100/more-l...-hour-early-tomorrow-amid-re-stocking-rumors/

Who is getting in line?

I checked four stores in my area none were open early, and besides they did not get any shipments of ipads.:(

Just order online. Go ahead and do it NOW. I'll wait here. :)

You can always cancel your order if you get one sooner......

While standing in line everyone around me wanted an ATT 3G version b/c that is what they had previously.

We were 100 people from the front of the store and the Apple employees said they had lots of Verizon versions left but just sold out of all the ATT. We were all scratching our heads like how is that possible? We thought people would go crazy for the Verizon versions.

We didn't put it together until afterwards that the 3G ATT version would work overseas. We were all incredibly disappointed needless to say. Walked away with a wifi only version that i'm going to return but i get to at least play with it for 2 weeks.

btw. It was my first time standing in line for an apple event and i had a blast. Met some really interesting and smart/successful people. Apple Line friends..ha made our disappointment a little more bearable.

Not sure where you are, but it's not that fun if you live in a COLDER city, unless you like standing outside for 5 hours in 35 degree wather. The iPhone lines are a lot more fun, being summer and all.

I just called rockway NJ store and they are opening at regular time at 10:00 am. they don't know anything about shipment either.

egads. :apple: please stop rewarding the people who have the most free time on their hands and just make the thing available online within a reasonable time frame.

Another smart move to grab headlines.

Apples learned a lot from Lindsay Lohan :)

I'm sorry but, but I gotta laugh

I walked in the Target near my home (about a mile) after work @ 5PM Friday. I was able to get a White 32Gb Verizon 3G in roughly 10 minutes (from ticket to sale completion). They had over 30 iPads.

I had an online order (3-5 days) that I canceled once I got a ticket. To me, it was a stop on the way home from work. I just gotta laugh at anyone who camps out for this stuff.

This is so sad in addition to the Earthquake in Japan. For every person waiting in line to get an iPad 2 in America, 10000000 workers in Taiwan and China are forced to work 24/7 while 1 is thinking of committing suicide.

If each person waiting in line would donate $2, I bet we could raise $2million for Japan. (base on the statistic that Apple sold 1 million iPad 2 x $2)
Or we could give the $2million to the workers oversea that make these iPad for you guys.

or better yet, if Apple brings the assembly job back to America, I bet we would make more iPad and more iPad would be available quicker since its made in America, and the economic wouldn't suck so much.

The following stores in :apple:'s back yard have none in stock today, so try again tomorrow. The blossom hill one said they had some in the morning but apparently, there was a secret line that started at 630am, so the stock got depleted 5 minutes after store opened.

Blossom Hill Mall
Los Gatos Apple Store
Valley Fair Mall

Calling it a rumor is generous. It seems to be traced back to open speculation by Gruber due to the perception that the iPod Touch isn't as good of a holiday item anymore and that the iPad could help bolster the holiday season profits. The issue here is that they can't make enough iPad 2s as it is; I'd hate to see what the backlog of orders would be like if they launched an iPad during the holidays with it's supply/demand. It would make TickleMe Elmo look pathetic.

TickleMe Elmo is pathetic. It never once tickled me - talk about false advertising!

That store is a joke. Not to mention the people who work there are unknowledgable, and obnoxious.

Too bad willowbrook is under water - Short Hills must be loving the influx of phone calls / campers .
