I was having visual stutters too and also fixed those with a 48Gbps cables because HDR signals need a lot of bandwidth to run at 60fps.

But for me this was completely unrelated to the Atmos sound issues. In fact I got those 48Gbps cables way before I installed my height speakers which is when I started having the Atmos dropouts on the AppleTV.
I am still have the stuttering issues with Netflix and only Netflix. If I watch Netflix on Roku Ultra no problem. Apple TV has horrible customer support. They told me to plug it directly into HDMI of tv, which wont play Atmos Dolby.

Can anyone confirm whether 15.6 has solved the issue for you?
No. I still have crackling on all apps. Even with atmos off. It's often not reproducable. I can replay the same scene and nothing then it shows up in another area. It's maddening.

I've seen a couple of mentions on the Apple forums that the beta v16 has fixed their Atmos issues.

I just signed up to the beta program. I will install it on my 2nd gen and report back.

I have been experiencing this same issue for years. I've replaced absolutely everything. TV, Sound bar, AND AppleTV and it still happens. No one has ever had an answer for me and Apple has nothing to offer. VERY frustrating as I already suffer from hearing loss.

I have a Samsung sound bar and I have constant audio drops. Only with the Apple TV. Xbox, PlayStation and Switch are fine.
I have the same BUT I used to have a Different tv and a full stereo sound system. I've replaced: TV, Soundbar, AND the AppleTV itself! STILL HAPPENS!

I was going to get a new sound bar, thinking that was the problem. Glad I didn't. Thank you for testing for us.

You first have to sign up in the the beta program here:

And then a button will appear in the ATV settings to install beta versions.

After installing v16 beta I watched like 20 mins of The Gray Man and no Atmos issues so far. I want to test more before declaring victory though.

Another benefit is that with v16 the lag was reduced considerably. Before I used to have like 200ms configured in my receiver and now it's 50ms.

Do you have to do all Mac Product or just ATV?

I put in 16 the other day. I have atmos turned off as I only have 3.1 in my setup. I still had helicoptering.

I've been testing beta 16 a bit more and so far it seems solid regarding Atmos. After like another hour of watching Atmos content the audio didn't drop out, not even once.

I've had other random issues which have required me to reboot the ATV. Stuff like apps not starting and other strange things, but I guess that's normal for a beta release.

You enter the beta program for all Apple products but you decide which to install on each device.

I really hope there will be a 15.6.1 tvOS release (or 15.7) incorporating the definitive audio fix, so regular people dont have to wait until September.

Who knows but September is close.

Personally I'd rather deal with the wrinkles of the beta release than the infuriating Atmos dropouts.

I installed 15.6 on my AppleTV 4K 2021 on Saturday and watched "The Grey Man". No joy: experienced five of the chopping, stuttering, helicoptering dropouts. Five! Had to hit the back button twice on each one to catch the dialogue that I missed.

Clearly, 15.6 does NOT fix this problem. For the record: TV is Sony A90J, receiver/decoder is a Denon 8500HA, and the AppleTV 4K is connected to the Media Streamer HDMI input. I'm currently using WiFi on the AppleTV 4k because some say that helps.

Very disappointed but not surprised.

As reported by others, can confirm that tvOS 16 completely does fix this damn audio bug. Finally and unfortunately (because we, regular folks that dont use betas, will have to wait until September).

15.6 fixed the problem for me with the Homepods, but last night I had the chance to install and test a brand new Sonos Arc and the Apple TV of a friend (second gen 4K) and the issue is NOT fixed with tvOS 15.6, whereas it is gone with the latest tvOS 16 beta.

I do use betas but not on devices that other family members use. Looking forward to the release of 16 !

One question: The second gen Apple TV 4K has had this issue since it was launched?. Or it was caused by a firmware update?

I don't know but it's possible the bug was introduced with v15.

I bought the 2nd gen when it was released in mid 2021 and it came with v14. I didn't experience the Atmos issues until I installed height speakers a couple of months later at which point I was already running v15.

I just went and installed Beta for Apple TV. So far it works well no Dolby Atmos issues using netflix, although netflix does load a little slower, but no stuttering so far

Kinda annoying Apple still haven't acknowledge this is an issue.

Given the cost of the equipments (Apple TV, TV, Soundbar, Subwoofer), buying new one just doesn't make any sense.

Then again good to hear than 16 will fix it. 🤞🏻
