Just a friendly reminder that High Speed HDMI 1.8 and above will 9/10 use or require your ARC HDMI port, which usally in most cases be the first input, you can see it also Labeled but the Manual should clarify it.

Another thing is that just because your receiver has Dolby atmos labeled all over it, does not mean your speakers are Dolby atmos capable, just watch out for these small things and you will have zero problems!

I’ve been using Dolby Atmos since the Apple tv rollout in 2018 and I have never ever ever had any problems on any platform, the only problem I had was on my receiver just because I had to manually enable Dolby Atmos usage and also switch the Chroma settings for HDR output!
Tell me you don’t understand how this works without telling me you don’t understand how this works 🙄

I have the latest Apple TV, a year old or so LG Oled and one of the latest series Denon receivers. Using e-ARC. No Dolby Atmos cutouts, actually that’s been fine, but we do have an issue where the sound doesn’t play at all in an app, until we return back to the Apple TV Home Screen and scroll the cursor around a bit. And sometimes that doesn’t even work and it requires a reboot.

Feel fairly sure it’s something about how it communicates with the Tv or receiver after waking from sleep as that seems to cause the biggest issue.

I have an LG OLED an a Denon AVR (via eArc). I have the same issues. But I think it is bit more stable after I disable Siri at the Apple TV. I personally prefer an untouched output, but ATV always convert DD(+) to Mulit channel PCM.
The reason is Siri. They can't let speak Siri without.

From what I've read it was with the tvOS 15.3 update that most Atmos issues started.

Personally I am also using a Sonos Arc (+Sub+2xOne) setup. Sometimes when booting up the system I cannot get Atmos out of any application, while non-Atmos audio still works just fine. Restarting various devices eventually solves the issue.

Sudden cutouts I haven't really experienced, when it works it tend to just keep working. Except specifically with some episodes of the latest season of Drive to Survive on Netflix, where cutouts did result in HDMI audio resyncs.

As my TV does not support eARC my setup includes an HDFury Vrroom, a special HDMI switch which can extract audio to a separate eARC port. Its firmware isn't quite fully developed yet so not sure what it contributes to the issues above or not.

I will say though that now that I have this switch, now that I have it I might keep using it even after upgrading to a TV with eARC. Audio lipsync issues over eARC is usually caused by the TV taking too long to forward the audio signal. The Vrroom solves this with as low latency as is pretty much technically possible.

I have a second gen Apple TV 4K hooked up to a Roku TV. I experience syncing issues with both Apple and Roku versions of apps and 4K UHD Blu-Rays in my PS5, using wireless stereo speakers and my Dolby Atmos-capable soundbar. I assumed it was an issue with 4K content.

I did notice the audio cuts out sometimes after pausing, too, but usually muting and unmuting again resolves it for me. Very strange.

I also have an Nvidia Shield Pro connected to my system, Denon 6700, Sony X95J and 5.2.4 everything hardwired of course and absolutely no problems as compared to the ATV 4K 2nd gen which I’ve used the the same HDMI cables and switched them back and forth still ATV has issues and Shield perfect. Isn’t it ironic that using the Apple TV App on the Android system has no issues at all?

I have audio drop outs while I’m Dolby atmos mode while watching Slow Horses on Apple TV Plus. Switching to another audio mode fixed it.my Apple TV is connected to an external amp and speakers and supports Dolby atmos.

Same issue, dropped Atmos and also general audio syncing issues.

Marantz 4K receiver, Philips 4K OLED, AppleTV 4K. All Atmos gear. Expensive setup, still doesn’t really work. Tried multiple high performance cables, tried rerouting via tv instead of through receiver, tried HDMI splitter. Sometimes no audio at all, sometimes no video at all, a shutdown / restart of all components can do the job, syncing issues remain.

Have definitely been experiencing this. Thought it might be my Sonos SoundBar. Glad (somewhat!) that it’s not just me.

Uh. Samsung HW-Q990B. LG C1.

I did read some issues were experienced by Q950A users, some said you shouldn't enable eARC, some said you should connect Apple TV through the soundbar. Atmos MAT also came up a couple of times.

Oh well. Fun times ahead.
If you have a Blu-ray player hook it up to the soundbar. I was thinking of getting that one, nice powerful sound. Make sure your cables are good because those cable makers are getting tricky. Yep, fun times ahead :D

Many factors involved here. HDMI cable, the TV its connected to and the use of EARC
For myself I have not had any of those problems and I play Dolby Atmos content all the time.
This.

I‘m not experiencing any of this. Good cables, good equipment excellent results!??

I’ve had a new problem last few weeks with atmos as well. Volume levels going up and down randomly on its own.

Yeah, experiencing this also in non Atmos content across all apps (with a stereo pair of original homepods). Amazon Prime in particular is crazy. Muffled low quality audio in one particular content, crystal clear on the next.

I believe is a tvOS firmware issue.

I’m getting it in all apps but only in airpod use not via my HomePods(Arc).

Firmware is my guess too.

I thought I was going mad. Glad it’s not just me. I first noticed it when using the Apple Music app on the Apple TV box. As soon as an Atmos track came on the sound would cut out.

Turning the box off and back on sometimes solved it, but then audio would be out of sync with the lyrics on screen.

I avoid playing Atmos content on Apple TV now, pending a fix hopefully in the future.

Responding in one word causes confusion.
Is it no, you tried and it didn’t work?
Or is it no, you’re not even gonna try cuz you think you know everything?

Could you be a bit more specific so that’d help others in the same situation?

I believe this issue you were experiencing is different from the "atmos mat 2.0 timing resync" bug

Yeah! I figured it was when someone in a previous post mentioned that they’re hardwired to the ATV and not using the speakers wirelessly. My prior reply was simply for a clarification from the poster.

Doesn’t mean it’s not a Sonos problem.
There 100% exists an Apple TV 4k gen 2 / tvOS >= 15 problem. While this user may also have a Sonos problem, there is certainly an Apple one. I have months of dealing with and troubleshooting (as an engineer) this issue. I can swap out my gen 2 with my gen 1 using all the same equipment as the problem disappears. Putting gen 2 back, and replacing every other piece of gear (AVR, TV, cables, etc.) the problem persists. That said, there are many comments here that are conflating the Atmos MAT 2.0 timing bug with other issues.

edit: specifically referencing the popping/clicking that can occur (sometimes on the verge of blowing a tweeter) and usually accompanied by the AVR (soundbar, whatever) dropping decoding resulting in 5-6 seconds of no audio while the decoder resyncs. The solution is for Apple to provide a bitstream option for those that do not care about Siri, and to stop decoding itself and delivering LPCM w/MAT 2.0. This used to be the case for AppleTV way back when.
