I have ATT, purchased my new watch from Apple, and just activated mine with no problem at all. go figure. I no longer have the unlimited plan however, gave that up ages ago.

I was expecting the worst this morning but my watch activated almost immediately on AT&T. I purchased my watch directly from Apple and I have a mobile share plan. On my account, I can see where a unique number was assigned to the watch. However, number sync was setup as part of the process to allow the phone to make and receive calls from the watch using my cell phone number.

I'm in Canada and was able to activate very quickly and smoothly on Bell.

However, when attempting to use cellular on the watch (out of range of wifi, iPhone in airplane mode), it shows connected to cellular but signal indicator always shows empty signal dots (tried in many areas) and attempting to make a phone call fails immediately. Bit frustrating/disappointing.

Over the years, it is maddening to realize that the vast majority of customer service reps at the wireless companies are clueless, and will authoritatively and testily claim things that are not true (such as the watch requiring a new number). In my experience with AT&T, the online chat service works better, as people there appear much more knowledgeable (once you get through the rosy greetings they insist on copying and pasting into the chat window). The onus was also on Apple to make sure their wireless partners are ready for this.

Hi Doug!! I received my watch today as well. No problems activating. I noticed the watch on the network only connects itself when it is out of reach of the phone? I guess this is what its suppose to do. Good to see you!

EE in the UK is not working at all for me.. Just says 'This account is not ready to use with Apple Watch'.. Really annoying...

The problem is that support staff don't now how to fix it either. In fact one of them told me to remove the Sim from the watch and reinsert it :)

I was told by EE that there are 6 months free when buying the watch. Is this not the case? Do I need to activate? My watch comes on Monday

Two hours on with several ATT reps who clearly have no idea what they're doing and were not prepared properly.

UPDATE: SUCCESS! Finally all set up and now the watch is synching.

Maybe this is a good thing.

This way, they won’t have to face the “charge your Apple Watch 2-3 times a day problem.”

Picked mine up from the Apple Store 4 hours ago. Went to get cellular set up about 2 hours ago. Got an error message since I have an AT&T grandfathered unlimited plan, so I went out to their website to see what the differences are for their newer plans that the watch would work with. Turns out their new unlimited plan was within $10 per month what I was paying now, AND it would extend the unlimited to my iPad (previously had it at 200MB, since I mostly used it on Wifi, but it meant I had to be careful with how I used it when off wifi!).

Once I changed my plan, set up went smoothly. iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch all connected on the same plan without an issue.

Bought a series 3 aluminum today from Queens, NY Apple Store. Activated cellular on T-Mobile when I got home and the process was quick and smooth - all done in the watch app of my iPhone 7 in under a minute. I have also had no problems connecting to cellular on the watch. I’ve only made one call - using my AirPods - and it was just fine, but have ventured out without my phone and have had a cell signal. No problems transitition from WiFi/Bluetooth to LTE.

Our family plan with Verizon is $36 per month per phone with 6 phones on the plan (includes taxes, etc). We have 22GB LTE and about 10GB hotspot PER phone. If we had 10 phones it would be almost $30 per month per phone.

Man I hate AT&T...

I activated my watch on AT&T this morning without any problems.

I did try to use the LTE on the watch, but it didn't work. It said I had one dot for signal strength, but mail, news, phone and maps wouldn't work.

Got a direct call from T-Mobile with the confirmation. The LTE activation issue with the "Activation Failed" message when submitting last four digits of one's SSN is affecting ALL Apple Watches purchased from Apple. There is no LTE activation issues with Apple Watches purchased from T-Mobile. T-Mobile is working with Apple on this, and Apple already has a workaround, which is to "pair your LTE watch with the iPhone via Bluetooth and use it together with the iPhone." This is a direct quote from T-Mobile allegedly re-quoting Apple. There is no ETR on this issue. If one needs LTE feature today or in the next few days, Apple suggests returning the LTE watch to the local Apple Store and buying it from T-Mobile directly. The problem is that T-Mobile has almost no stock of LTE watches.

I got my LTE series 3 today.
I am on AT&T.
I am on the grandfathered plan.
I have enough beer till then.

I'm on the grandfathered plan also, they told me I have to change my plan to one of the new plans. Get ready.

Update

ATT rep just called me, they stated they are going to work to push some of these through today. She relayed information I had given earlier with my IEMI and EID, she said it is now activated and I need to Re-Pair the device.

She gave me a case number, and will be calling me back in 30 minutes to check on the progress.

Wish me luck (or not ;) )
30 min passed, any news?

After some fast suppport from ATT, I am now online with their system.

I strongly urge people having any issues call the 1-800-331-0500 support number, over any other number they are attempting. This crew appears to be the most knowledgeable of the lot.

My first support agent I worked with there took my information, the IEMI and EID numbers. They then forwarded it to one of their support reps who called me back.

They will text you a PIN number to your primary account holding phone, then work with you to resolve the issue. One HUGE hurdle that came up in my situation, was the fact that ATT had the wrong information on file for my phone model. They had my 7 in their system as being a 5S, and because the IEMI was a mismatch, I was not getting proper LTE service. This is funny, as I purchased the phone and activated it using the SIM that that is currently inside it. No idea why the attached this phone in their system as being a 5S. On the MY ATT application, it also showed up as a 7, so I guess that screen means nothing?

One trick to check to see if your phone is setup correctly in their system, is to check if WIFI calling can be enabled. This setting is under “Phone” within settings, and toggle on WIFI calling. Mine would not let me do this before the fix.

Hope this helps others!

Got mine direct from Apple and setup was a breeze using T-Mobile and the watch app. But I couldn't get voice calls to work on LTE (data worked fine). I contacted TMO support and they had me unpair watch and remove data plan then repair and add plan back and it worked. Loving the watch so far. Been pleased with LTE performance during my limited testing driving around here in Greenville, SC sans iPhone.

I am having the exact same issue. what do you mean repair?
