My s3 has a small crack on screen that keeps getting bigger slowly.how big does it have to be for a replacement?
The crack is considered Accidental Damage so you're looking at an out of warranty repair fee. You can do it now, or when the crack gets big enough to worry about - it won't change the cost.

I have a series 0 stainless steel that I’ve had since 2015. If I pay for a battery replacement, what are the chances I’ll end up with a newer model (like a series 2)?

I don't know if I would risk it. Meaning being "careless" with your SS Series 3, cracking the screen to get an S4. It could be just my local store, but the lady I spoke with told me straight up that they still have Series 3 and that my SS Series 3 GPS/ Cellular model will be replaced with the exact same model.

How is it out of warranty if I have apple care plus?
You didn't say you have AppleCare+ :) but still, it's not a warranty (or extended warranty) repair so it will have a fee. It's just lower with AC+, you can have a watch with AC+ repaired with accidental damage up to 2 times for a cost of $69 plus tax (or $79 if it's an Hermes or Edition watch) each time. Without AC+ it would range from $229 to $800 depending on the edition.

can you elaborate how we can submit a claim and hopefully get an S4 SS? I am going to become very clumsy when I am handling my s3 watch :p

That’s exactly how you do it - “Hope”. You might get a S4, but you might get exactly what you have. It depends on what is in stock at the repair depot that day (not at your store, but at the depot they send it to - so even if you could find out that they don’t have a replacement for your SS series 3 “today”, that doesn’t mean they won’t get more in before your watch arrives). So, if you’re willing to gamble a $69 fee (assuming you have AppleCare+, if not don’t bother) and possibly end up with exactly what you have now, go for it.

From what I've heard previously, watch service replacements are handled centrally (requiring mail-service). Are you sure they weren't talking about new units?

Which color stainless you have?

I have the same model with black SS, and got the express replacement as well. Still an AW series 3. Would be cool to get a 4, but just glad to get this replaced because of the speaker issue I’ve been having with it for the last few months. I hope the new one doesn’t start doing the same thing.

Yea not saying you.
Did the watch look brand new?

Sure did, couldn’t find anything that indicated it just didn’t receive a new case/screen if it was refurbished, looked brand new.

I also didn’t realize how bad the button presses had gotten on mine. They were both kind of mushy or soft feeling, the new one is clicky like you’d expect. I wonder how much a function of sweat getting into the buttons and speaker causes these issues. I typically just rinse the watch/band off about once a week in the sink with water, so not sure what else would cause this.
