The bumper is a gimmick. I don't know why there is such a fixation about a 29.00 overpriced piece of rubber. It should have bee 1.99 from the beginning and the fact that Apple is now giving them away does not make them any less gimmicky. Dirt in the front, dirt in the rear. Once again, the Barnum/Hannum quote rings true.

i got a black bumper on and mine is a good fit. only problem is when i shake my phone i could hear the sleep wake metal button part move a little which is kinda annoying. offers good protection on metal band tho and fixes antenna problem and doesnt take away from the look of the iphone.

How often do you shake the phone? If I shake my MacBook pro, I can hear things make noise too!

I am very happy with mine - even before they came free. I think they are worth the money and a good design to show off the back. I have dropped it with not a scratch, and mine fits perfect with no button or looseness problems. I run a white bumper on black phone with a SGP carbon fiber back. I get all sorts of comments on it, that it's a class looking combo.

Awaiting Apple to make a solid, deep red one.

+1 here too

People stop me all the time to comment on my set up :)

Love my bumper. The only time it slipped off is one time when I dropped my phone and it hit the ground at aweird angle. Even then, it only slid off slightly on one corner; not like the phone popped out of the case and it still protected the phone. :)
I've got a BSE film on the back and SGP oleophobic protector on the front. No peeling issues with the case and its a great fit. I think using a side protector would too much bulk. Might make it difficult to engage the volume and sleep/wake button since the bumper is designed with such tight tolerances.

I have a DecalGirl skin on right now (back and sides only) and the bumper fit fine with that; I had no problems using any of the buttons. It did, however, start one of the back corners peeling up, so I'm holding off using it til I get sick of the skin and remove it.

I wish someone made a "normal" case that came with the same buttons as the bumper. I love the feel of those things; it's almost enough to make me consider using it even though I'm still paranoid I'll drop the phone and be one of the unlucky few who actually shatters everything with the bumper on.

Not only protection but I think the feel is much better with the bumper than without.

I haven't experienced either of those problems. My Bumper is very tight-fitting. No rattling of buttons when I shake it, no dust collection problem.

Regarding your dust issue, perhaps your PS Crystal Film is a dust magnet.

A fingerprint magnet, yes. A dust magnet, no.

If you're telling me that your bumper is tight fitting, then it looks like I got a bad one. Since the first time I put it on, the buttons all rattle and it's as loose as... well you get the idea.

Regardless, I just can't wait for my GeoMetric. Let's just hope it doesn't peel the screen protector up.

What adhesive do they use for the carbon fiber back? I'm worried that when I go to peel it off 10 months down the road to sell the phone, there is going to be these nasty adhesive residue on the glass.

not often i just hear the top sleep wake button rattle whenever i do. its not a big deal just a little annoying if i shake my phone

With the DG skins, just spend a little time rubbing the edges down well. Once they're adhered properly, there's no more peeling. I tried to put my bumper on within 30 minutes of application--and without really smoothing those edges--and I had the same problem you did. Once I took a couple of minutes to really press it all down, and then let it sit for an hour or so, I never had another problem with them. Pulled the bumper off today to try and clean a scuff mark off of it, and then skin stayed put perfectly even when I put the bumper back on.

Couldn't get the black mark off my pink bumper though, which is disappointing. (Tried a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser--I'll probably try something else.) The non black ones are going to be a pain to keep clean, I'm thinking.

Day one with my Bumper, but I must say I am satisfied. It's more rigid than I thought it would be. If you think there is too much give, go try another case. I used the Griffin Reveal. The sides pretty much peeled at the touch. At least there is some rigidity to the bumper. Did not expect the glossy center line on the outside of the bumper, nice touch. Raises the phone up just enough to keep it from scratching, still have exposure to both glass pieces.

I am happy with it.

Mine was a little lose around the edges too and I boiled it 3 separate times for 1 minute and now it fits perfectly and does not move at all. Doesn't offer much protection but it sure does look good on the phone.

Wow, and this didn't warp the bumper at all?

OK, cool. I'll give that a try once my next set of DG skins comes in the mail (the pink bumper clashes with the skin I have on now, which is another reason I'm not terribly worried about getting it to work right away.)

Thanks for the tip!

Alright, cool, I just boiled my white bumper two separate times for 1 minute a piece, and the sucker fits like a GLOVE now. That sucker was so loose before that it was nearly unusable. On the right side, literally had a few solid few mm of movement (which doesn't sound like much, but on something like the bumper it is a ton of movement).

Thanks for the tips guys. I would have NEVER thought of doing that but it makes perfect sense and works like a charm

SGP Carbon Skin

Hello All,

I've read your posts and done a little research. That said, I just placed an order for the SGP Black Carbon skin and my free Apple Bumper. I think this is a pretty sweet combo. I'm currently using the Speck Products Candy Shell in black/gray. Good protection but the case scratches up really easily not to mention its a huge fingerprint magnet. Much worse than a naked iPhone IMO. Thanks for all the posts, I think its gonna look really good! :)

I have a hard time believing this. I have a black one and it's made of rubber and PLASTIC... How would this NOT just melt away in boiling hot water?

Please elaborate on this or describe the methodology you used...

I used a hair dryer on high for 2-3 minutes and my bumper definitely fits better now as well.

I was afraid of boiling it, but I'm not sure your theory about plastic melting in hot water is valid. I have plenty of plastic & rubber spoons that I use in boiling water when stirring pasta, etc. Not sure why the bumper would be much different (although the bumper's plastic *is* thinner for sure).

Either way, I'm also curious to know more details about the boiling method. Just 1 minute at a time?

EDIT: So curiosity got the best of me, and I boiled my bumper for 2 minutes (I live @ 7000ft so my boiling point is only 198 degrees). I'm not sure it made any additional improvement since I had already used a hair dryer on it, but either way, it did not harm the bumper at all. My bumper fits like a glove compared to how it was when I received it 2 days ago. Huge improvement.

Well now you got me curious... Here goes nothing

EDIT: Oh wow do I feel stupid! Boiled a big pot of water and dropped it in there for 2 and a half minutes. Then I ran it under cold water to harden it and used a blow dryer on high heat to dry it. One word: WOW! It fits WAYY better then it did before. I think I could even of boiled it more! That's the last time I knock something before I try it, thanked again guys!

I don't get it, when you boil it doesn't water get in the phone? Do you switch the phone off first?
