They're no where near due yet. They're following the same path as the initial launch. The first M1 systems were launched Nov 2020 - the iMac did come out till April 2021 - and hasn't been in stock properly since. If they were playing to the supply chain they'd have delayed stuff a lot more now as some of the 16-inch MacBook Pros ordered in November are only arriving in stock this week. They SHOULD be delaying things but they're not - 18 months is roughly the release schedule always planned - the problem is you're then not able to get hold of it for another 3-6 months, at least with the higher specs.
I think they'll keep the Mac mini at M1 along with the entry level MacBook Air, it makes sense to have two systems and an iPad still using the original M1, also they need binned M1 chips from the Mac mini to put into the MacBook Air for it's 7-core GPU version.
The mini came out in November 2020 along with the MBA and MBP as part of the first M1 wave.
obviously supply chain issues look to be hitting the industry for the next couple of years but Apple need to release new product or they fall in to the same situation where the Mini was left to languish for multiple years.
the fact that there is still an Intel mini model on offer is the really weird thing but the fact remains that the M1 mini and the M1 MacBook Air are still around from that initial launch.
the MacBook Pro 13 was completely upgraded to M2 while keeping the same case (uk has had a price increase possibly due to unfavourable exchange rate)
macbook air 13 m2 has had a redesign and the US price went up (uk price went up higher so it’s further proof that uk prices are generally going to rise when the next Apple products are released).
the uk price is irrelevant to the us price though. The point is that MacBook Pro didn’t get a new case design and everything else stayed the same Including price.
the MacBook Air got new brighter, bigger screen, more battery life, magsafe, better webcam, and so on, but all that meant a price increase.
The MacBook Air US price increase means there’s a space for the entry level M1 cpu using the original case.
would Apple really put an M2 Mini into a new rumoured to be smaller case just to fix the wifi and Bluetooth reception issues and somehow justify a $200 price increase off the back of that?
there would only be a new case to fit the M2 as port selection would appear to have to remain the same while a mini can’t have a bigger or brighter screen for obvious reasons Not a better web cam.
