He said that there will be discounts offered but didn't elaborate any further and I didn't ask.
I wonder if there's any truth in that?

no truth in it whatsoever. I imagine he's trying to speculate and hasn't been fully informed

Actually, depending on your spend, you are placed in a Priority Level list. Which is what I assumer the guy meant when he said discounts! On a minimum £35 iphone contract you are supposed to be on Silver level, getting 1 month early upgrade. The problem is that their database is completely crazy. I rang o2 and they confirmed that I am on BLUE level (lowest), which is just not possible as an iPhone customer. And my monthly bill is over £100 a month and sometimes over 250. I am supposed to be on Platinum level, but it shows Blue. My partner is Silver and he hardly goes over £50, which should give him Gold level.

So, in theory, yes, we should get an early upgrade (discount for buying out the contract), in practice, I doubt it's going to happen, unless someone reviews all iPhone accounts by Friday.

From O2's website;

Who can join O2 Priority List?
New O2 Pay Monthly contract customers automatically join the O2 Priority List within five months of connection to O2 – providing they have selected an O2 Priority List Portfolio tariff* or the total value of their second bill fits in one of the following entry levels:
blue – spend up to £35
silver – spend between £35.01 - £50
gold – spend between £50.01 - £80
platinum – spend over £80
Existing O2 Pay Monthly contract customers can join the O2 Priority List if they have selected an O2 Priority List Portfolio tariff* or their lowest total bill spend within the last four bills fits in one of the following entry levels:
blue – spend up to £35
silver – spend between £35.01 - £50
gold – spend between £50.01 - £80
platinum – spend over £80
Either way, if you also have an O2 Home Broadband connection, this could make a difference. Please see the Terms and Conditions for more information.

What if I’m not on an O2 Priority List Portfolio tariff?
Then the qualification criteria used will be based on the amount you spend (as above). Home Broadband connection only makes a difference when you’re on an O2 Priority List Portfolio tariff*. And Pay & Go, Business or Corporate customers are not eligible for O2 Priority List.

How do I know which level I’m on?
As long as you’ve said yes to receiving marketing information from us we’ll send you a welcome pack or email to let you know.

How long will I stay on a level?
The date for reviewing the level you’re on will be 12 months after you joined O2 or after your last review.

What happens after 12 months?
Depending on how much you spend, you could find yourself staying where you are or going up or down a level. You’ll stay on the O2 Priority List providing you spend the minimum required.

How often can I move levels?
Once a year, at your annual review.

So it depends what your bill was for the first 5 months as to what level you went on and then it gets reviewed after 12 months.

When I moved to o2, it was because of the iPhone. I always had the £45 plan, and had always had my bills over £100 (roaming a lot). But roaming or not, on a £45 plan, it should put me to silver automatically. But on o2's system it shows I am BLUE!!!

As proof how screwed up their database it, I also have o2 Broadband, which automatically puts me one Category higher at the time of taking out the broadband connection (not at review date), this is according to their T&C.

http://www.o2blueroom.co.uk/o2prioritylist/terms.aspx

According to o2, my review date is December (which does NOT makes sense), as I've joined o2 in November 2007, when 2G came out, so joining Priority List 5 months after, means April 2008, therefore a review date of April 2009, yet the system shows that it's December? Weird.

Sorry, it looks like I am having a rant, but I am not. I am just explaining my situation, so that others know what to expect and if anyone is in the same situation as I am and manages to sort it out, please post it here.

just be careful. CPW can upgrade you, but no earlier than O2 can. If you're not due for an upgrade yet, he wont be able to do anything about it.

Cheers for the reply, I'll have to look into it- it's not that 02 arnt letting me upgrade- they can only do it if I ring and have the phone delivered to my house- CFW have said I'll be able to pay out of my contract (as I canwith 02) but will be able to do it instore on friday- does anyone know if there's a y truth in this?? The only reason I'm doing it this way is thatim going away Sunday and cantbear the thought of My 3gs sitting in my house for 3 weeks!!! Yes sad I know

Got a dilemma... in NYC until the Weds after launch.

Do I.....

a) Order the phone online on launch day

b) Wait until the Wednesday and then phone all the local O2 stores to see if they have stock?

Anybody any idea what speeds the tethering will give us?
I currently use a THREE usb BB adaptor on my macbook, and it the coverage seems absolutely crap although when I do have coverage the download speed is great.
So will tethering via the iphone give similar speeds? I wasn't sure about 3G/HSDPA?

If I was in your shoes, I would order online as soon as possible on launch day. That way you should get one of the first allocation, which should be delivered before you get back so will be waiting for you! There is a good chance O2 stores will have sold out of some models at least by the Wednesday and you will have to wait for them to be restocked.

wondering who (who is getting a 3gs) is thinking of waiting before opening time. and what kind of time? i was thinking maybe get there for 7:30 or something. open for 9. but there wont be as much buzz as last year will there? and im getting a payandgo this year. which there is less stock of isnt there? oh idk..

o2 are updating their priority list in october.. as it started in october..08
regardless of your last 8 months monthly spend they will not be REtiering these accounts till then..
banding based on 4 months prior to last october ie 08.

in october 09 they will retier according to last 4 months bills. EACH and EVERY SINGLE bill must be over their minimum for each banding level.
its NOT an average..

Don't forget that a £35 contract is just less than £35 since the cut in VAT rate: £34.26 I think which puts you below the required £35
I knew that VAT cut was a gimmick, but it looks like it could bite a few people in an unintended manner!

Do you really think the demand will be that high? I'm really wanting an iPhone but I can't get one until Monday at the latest as my girlfriend is out of town and I need her to be present (she's got a 30% off on the contract due to work)... I'm looking for the 16GB Black...

If she gets the discount through working for McDonalds then she doesn't need to be with you to get it, all you need is the code that she can have sent to your phone and proof of her staff number such as her employee card or a payslip

Sorry, it's too late. I'm now waiting for the train home.

No problem.

I gave the store a phone call and they confirmed that they CAN upgrade me in the AppleStore on Friday. I just need to bring 2 forms of ID. When I asked about stock levels she said they would be getting more than enough to meet demand. She confirmed opening time as 8am.

So that is my Friday morning sorted. Head into the Bullring aiming to get to the store around 7:45!

That would have been so useful to know 30 minutes ago and I could've asked her for her card... gutted!

Thanks for the details--do you think it would be possible if I had the text and had her employee number (but not the actual card or payslip)?

Thanks!

There is no difference between a Contract and Pay&Go iPhone. Still get the phone and an envelope with a sim in, only difference is price, and the sim inside the envelope.

Can someone clarify this for me please? Basically I am buying 2 iPhones on Friday - one for me and one for my wife - both upgrades from non-iphone tarrifs on O2.

My wife is away from for the next month so I need to know if the iPhone comes with a new Sim so that I can activate her iPhone and take it down to her when I go and see her next weekend. If not I'm not sure how we are going to manage logistics!

that's great for me, I will only use tethering very rarely, so it looks like I could get away without paying!

I have 3.0 GM and there is a part that allows you to set up the tethering, cant just plug in a go im afraid :(

But doesn't silver start at £35.01, so a £35 contract would be below in any case?

I just called the Apple shop in Regent Street, and they said I cannot upgrade my iPhone there, I have to go to O2. I am on pay monthly with O2, contract expired. So we seem to have different stories here, I wish I knew what to believe!

Hey,

having talked to my O2 store and them not even knowing if they get any yet I have decided to get to regents street Apple store!

what time do you guys think I should get there? 7am so I wait 1 hour? I think I wear a fake beard or something as I think its really embarrassing to be in the queue ! Having looked at some videos of the 3g launch in regents street it looked liked there where only about 30 people anyway :)
