You guys must all be idiots. These apps can’t send anything to Facebook if you don’t use Facebook to login to these apps. This is not a iOS or android issue, it’s an issue when you use Facebook to authenticate on any third party application or website. Ridiculous how everyone is so clueless but still chime in with non sense.DO NOT LOG INTO APPS WITH YOUR FACEBOOK ACCOUNT

You didn't bother reading the article. Be careful who you call idiots, after making the post you did.

Apple needs to update its guidelines in that data collected from an app needs to be disclosed, and cannot be given to a third party. It's almost impossible, but the *app* should not be a pipeline to another company.

Facebook can get stuffed. I hope it gets regulated to death, literally and figuratively.

They can send and do send data to Facebook even if you are not using Facebook. Facebook can still use that data to build profiles of people to better target you with ads.

lol. On an apple site. Apple is usually the most expensive electronic company by far. Is that also draconian? The company that has 5W chargers for a $1200 phone. The company the removed the dongle for the most expensive phone ever. The company constantly raising prices 20-30% for iPads and Mac for no good reason. Very draconian

That has absolutely nothing to do with what I said, but...cool?

Facebook has more money than you. Facebook spent ~$12.5 million on lobbying politicians. Congress doesn't care.
Of COURSE Politicians care! When it comes to Facebook, they care 12.5 million dollars worth. How much does the average American contribute to a political cause? $25, $50 a year? Money talks, very very loudly. Expect a few statements of outrage followed by some very discrete lobbyist meetings where Facebook offers them even more money. Guess how those politicians will vote.

Glad I woke up 9 years ago and closed my FaceBook account. I have not missed it a single time since then. Wake up people. Wake the hell up!

It's showing for me but I don't view many articles from that site, which might be why. Typically you can get around this on most sites by copying the URL, starting a private browsing session, and pasting the URL back into the bar. This clears the tracking cookies and other stuff they use to see who has visited their site too many times.

Sounds like a class action lawsuit just waiting to happen if they're NOT disclosing data sharing.

WE WILL NOT TRANSMIT ANY OF YOUR PERSONAL DATA TO THIRD PARTIES, EXCEPT IF IT IS REQUIRED TO PROVIDE THE SERVICE TO YOU (E.G. TECHNICAL SERVICE PROVIDERS), UNLESS WE HAVE ASKED FOR YOUR EXPLICIT CONSENT.

I hate class actions but it may be warranted. While the class won't really get anything out of it, at least the defendants could be buried in legal fees and fines.

I am literally the only family member that has never had a Facebook account nor will I ever. When Facebook first started up I warned the whole family Not to use it. No one listened :(

As for needing Facebook to stay in touch, that’s just silly. We already had US Mail, email, text, and calling..not to mention FaceTime and Skype. You can even catch up with family face to face...Facebook is not necessary. As much as I love my family I do not need to know their every move 24/7. My family used to think I was being too cautious, now even they are concerned.

In my opinion, Apple should revamp the app garden wall and refuse to approve any app that uses Google or Facebook analytics, by sending user information to a third party. No information should be leaving the app at any time unless the user has given express and specific permission.

Facebook collects data from apps even if no Facebook account is used to log in and even if the user isn't a member of Facebook. They are able to get info regardless.
Our individual acts of defiance don't really mean much to facebook. 2.3 Billion monthly users. 1.1 Billion daily mobile users... other assorted absurd stats. Generally speaking, people don't care.

Why any sane, rational person continues to have anything to do with Facebook is beyond me.

I have a very personal reason to despise Facebook and all its works. A few years ago, my wife got suckered into 'interacting' with a guy on FB, which cost us a stupid amount of money and very nearly our marriage. Where did the fault lie - with me, him, her or FB? I don't know, but I do know that without FB and its insidious way of invading your life, your privacy, your home, it wouldn't have happened. She still uses it, but I won't have anything to do with it and am deeply suspicious of any interaction with it. She'll still happily spend all day on it, and then tell me about this group or that person and how she feels angry or attacked or pissed off by this or that, how many or few likes this or that gets and I'm supposed to be think it important or feign interest? It brings no joy but only anger, frustration, distrust and nastiness into our lives. Do I have the right to forbid another adult from using something or imposing my will or opinions on that person? Of course not. So I suppose I must tolerate it, but it really bites.

A toilet is a useful device that takes human excrement and removes it from your life. Facebook is a Teliot - a device that finds human excrement pipes it back directly into your home.

I can see two options - do not have anything to do with FB or any product or service that does, or use it, but in a totally random way, so that the data generated is meaningless and of no value. It would take a large proportion of users to do this to make this strategy pay off, but imagine if the purchasers of FB data discovered that it was worthless... we can dream, but in the meantime, the only sensible course of action is to delete it from your life. As far as FB is concerned you are data, and data is their product. Stop supplying them with what they need. Do something - anything - else, but don't do Facebook. No good will come of it.

End of bitter, personal rant./

If enough people did this, they would either be forced to make changes, or become irrelevant. Furthermore, there need to be more fines in the billions from the government. It could dwarf the income from tariffs, lol.

What happens on your phone stays on your phone, apple marketing!
Idc how they do, if they promise it.
We have AI we have cheap India. Labour, if a newspaper can do it, apple should, too

If am in charge, I would not brawl about how many apps in store, but how many quality, constant reviewed apps.
No one needs iDknow 100000 apps, apple could build solid relationships with solid developers, giving a quality badge, whatever, hiring script kiddies to constantly evaluate this apps, it’s all so cheap n easy nowadays.

As cheap as many excuses I constantly hear

Yeah, they just hire a couple thousand people to check all the apps that you have personally approved of before. Sounds like a great idea. I guess you work in Human Resources since you’re so familiar with how easy it is to scale your staff that way.

What happened to all the fanatics who said Apple is so secure , only google shares data. Lmao.. every damn "walled garden" shares data until they are caught.

These are currently on vacation. Now we have the “I told you so” fanatics lose.

That's not so easy when you have a lot of older relatives and that is the only way to stay in touch with them.

The amount of people without a phone number, an email account or an address to visit is probably rather low. People managed to stay in contact prior to Facebook - they just didn’t share as much nonsense with each other.

They should have a thread here where users can name apps that perform this kind of data collection and distribution. Them people using the app could give it a bad rating and delete it.

a

But it would take years to resolve and fund for that matter. I think the smart thing to do is dump the apps that send your personal data to Facebook or any other website. I think it may be time to purge some of my apps.

I have nothing to do with Facebook. But there are three Facebook cookies in the bowels of Safari. If I delete them, Safari (read "Apple") recreates them immediately without subsequently going to any website.

Can someone tell my why Apple, the privacy advocates, shoves Zuckerberg's cookies down my digital throat?

I have those 3 sites blocked in 1BlockerX and the cookies are still present.

It might be social widgets....I had that disabled.

I was NOT referring to FB as one of the ethical companies. I'm talking about small dev shops or one-man operations that DON'T pull the kind of stupidity spasms that the Big Brother-like operations do. The evil privacy-violating outfits like FB, Google, (and to a certain degree, Microsoft) all need to be called out and need to stop their nonsense or the web will disintegrate.
I don't disagree with your latter point, but let's not forget that the "dev shops" who made these apps are the ones using Facebook's (and others') SDKs, implementing hooks in their apps to capture app events and send them to Facebook et al., in many cases without the user's consent or even clear disclosure of what they are doing. They are not just accidentally caught up in all these privacy violations. They are active participants and enablers.
