Some iPad Air 5 Users Complain About Creaking and Build Quality Downgrade

3 possibilities:
1. Early reviewers saw the same problems but deliberately avoided mentioning it in fear of losing their early access perks.
2. Early reviewers were sent select few models that scored the absolute best in quality control.
3. The corporation is cutting costs which results in worse quality control consistency.

This is applicable to all consumer products, particularly egregious when you see it happen with Apple products since they’re expensive and you’d expect a consistent above average build quality.

This creaking is also happening with my new 14-inch MacBook Pro. I’m wondering if it’s some new, lower quality adhesive Apple started using.
Or, they’re using too much of this of adhesive, maybe of which is not evenly applied, causing creaking in areas that is not as fitted/secure as other areas of the chassis are. That’s my guess.

Everyone rushes to find flaws in every new Apple product. From experience, it nearly always turns out to be a non-issue in real usage. And if it is, you can just return it.

just curious when you've bought yours?

Mine was end of 2020, its solid. I wonder if in late manufacturing they cut some corners (likely)
Feb 21 had 10+ MacBooks since 2006 and not had an issue like this with any of them and its not the hinge it creaks if you lift the chassis from one side.

This is also very accurate.

Very similar to the iPhone 6 Plus bending issue that was completely blown out of proportion. (Even though it was a very real scenario that could happen.) But that usually only occurred when you had people who don’t use much intelligence when they put their phone in their back pocket and then sat on it. And then they turned around and blamed Apple for their phone bending, because they put their entire body weight while sitting on it.

Not made in China.

My made in China airpods - tight and fits well, works well

My made in vietnam airpods - case is loose, there is clearly more tolerance, feels like a knock off

All of the above, but #1 overrides everything

*Sigh* News like this makes me wish that the folks behind Procreate would create a PC version so I could just get a Surface Pro and be done with iPads.

I really wanted the Mini 6 but won’t bother due to the jelly scroll, and now this Air 5 build quality.

Sheesh Apple.

Really, a surface pro, you'll regret that the first day.

Of course the early reviewers didn’t mention anything, they don’t want to get dropped from their early access perks

I seriously doubt this is the case. Many of these reviewers can be very critical, like they were critical of Studio Display’s camera quality. It is most likely they didn’t notice this issue.

Not excusing poor build quality here, but I have to bemoan the fact that now we’re probably going to have to endure, yet again, someone coming up with some “clever” whatever-gate, and the resultant flood of trolls using the term at every possible opportunity for the next few weeks. Apple, please step up your build quality and QA, if only for making it such that none of us have to hear another “-gate” again…please…
Gate-gate

Does your Mini iPad 6 in portrait mode have jelly scrolling?

I looked for this on the Mini 6 in store. I could notice it but I specifically had to look for it. If I didn’t know of this issue, I wouldn’t know it’s there.

Either some people are much more sensitive than me, or they are just much more picky. Sometimes it looks like people are looking for things to complain.

They did not fall victim to anything. They made a choice to mislead if not outright lie to their viewers in exchange for early access, perks, and or money. What does not help is consumers are not patient enough to wait for the product to come out and wait for it to be reviewed by an unbiased person.
I want to see the best in people... So I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt that they've been corrupted by the marketing machine...

But I 1000% agree that it is wise to wait for reviews. The only issue with waiting these days is that the chip shortage means a much longer wait if you wait for 3rd party reviews.

These early reviewers should be ashamed of themselves. They have fallen victim to the marketing machine and are just lining their pockets with Ad revenue, given the first mover advantage... they get more views and clicks earlier in the release cycle, relative to reviews that come out a few days or weeks after the product launch.

But they aren't doing the community justice. They treat Apple and other companies with kid gloves so as to not piss off the giants, and risk their relationships and freebies. Especially in this day and age of chip shortages, they want to avoid having to wait to push videos out.

But then they don't tell the community what's really going on. Like the camera on the Studio display is garbage, and these build quality issues of the iPad Air should have been mentioned. Instead, I've heard early reviews of the iPad Air 5 saying the Air is "like magic!!" WTF is "magic[al]" about sub-par build quality? Shame on them!
Sadly, they have no shame to begin with.
