Both iPads have the same feeling and are making creaking noises when you hold them. This did not happen on the iPad Air 4...

Both are doing it but it didn’t happen on the 4?

I have an Uncle Sal. Assume this is an attempt to mock me.
Your assumption would be pre-mature and misunderstood. If Sal was here, he would agree with me. Don’t overthink it.

some people choose to believe what they see from random people online and others don’t.
Right….I literally was just agreeing with you based off what someone else used to say.

I’m not sure if this has been mentioned, but it appears that this issue is isolated to blue models. Users with the space grey iPad Air 5 have reported that it feels similar if not identical to the previous model.

No there have been users with the space grey also… so it’s not limited to specific colours unfortunately

Every year that goes by I see Apple caring less and less for their customers. If they’re going to keep premium prices, and not take leaps in groundbreaking features, they should at least keep their quality control in line. Hopefully soon there will be a press release about how we’re holding it wrong.

Ugh, and so it begins.

This is what Steve warned about. Sooner or later, the product people leave or get sidelined and sales people and suits take over and wreck the place. All the good talent leaves.

Why do they need to do this? They make so much money, a hige percent of the profits in the industry, and to what end? Customers suffer at Apple’s profiteering with insane markups on accessories and device upgrades. Why make more pennies only to weaken the brand over the long haul?

this is dumb. and dangerous for apple’s future.

This story does not show any actual proof about anything at all etc. especially in regards to Apple not caring about customers etc.

It is rather sad (in a logical way) that so many here have been blindly assuming what was posted are facts, even though there are no facts in evidence.

Of course the early reviewers didn’t mention anything, they don’t want to get dropped from their early access perks
Yep. Anytime someone says they received a review unit directly from the company, I instantly take anything they say with a grain of salt. That doesn’t mean that I automatically disbelieve what they might say — you can receive a review unit and still review it critically — but it’s definitely a conflict of interest I am mindful of. But there are many reviewers out there who buy Apple products to review with their own money.

Yeah like SaranByte, he actually is a small YouTube and when he unboxed it he instantly noticed it creaking, he is returning for a new one, he only buys products when he actually wants them himself, so overall I believe that this issue is real just from his video alone IMO…

It’s always the same freebie reviewers say how amazing a product is even though there is an obvious flaw, once it gets into general peoples hands that’s when the issue is noticed.

I’m blanking on his name at the moment, but there is a YouTuber who bought $17,000+ worth of Mac Studios (three different unit configurations) using his own money. I’m definitely going to go back to his channel for future videos about the Mac Studio.

Edit: The YouTube channel is “Max Tech”.

Don’t blame the engineers. I promise you this was some bean counter trying to impress Tim on the increased margings and lower shipping costs.
What lower shipping costs? The new iPad Air weighs more than its predecessor. Maybe you should check things like that before spouting off "promises".

Here's a bit of a tip for everyone:

Go to a store (if possible) and play around with it for a bit. Test the os, see how it feels in your hands. Then, if you feel like you don't like it, guess what: you don't have to buy it and you can buy a different one or just walk out of the store without one.

A bit of a novel concept I know but it may just help some of you

I have a blue iPad Air 5 - and I just tried what the article says.
There’s no creaking and the “can almost feel the battery” I can only assume was an exaggeration because I sure can’t almost feel the battery.
The only thing I can reproduce is “distortion” in the screen if I apply pressure to the back in a certain spot. A lot more pressure than I would usually apply when holding the device or picking it up, I might add.

So I don’t know - maybe there was a faulty batch that went through QA, maybe I’m just handling my devices more carefully than others.

Unfortunate for the people experiencing these symptoms. Hopefully, an exchange will sort this out and not end up being a widespread problem. Seeing some of the comments blindly defending Apple is ridiculous.

It’s the first thing I noticed when unboxing my blue 64gb wifi air, the slight creaking when moving it from one hand to the other, i’m not bending it or anything. It was jarring coming from an iPad Air 2 so I asked a friend with a 4th gen air and his is fine, then this article comes out today so I’m not crazy.
Probably gonna exchange it for a colour last gen had so maybe it won’t have the same issue, but unfortunately it looks like there’s no rhyme or reason to the issue

While I hardly want to carry water for corporations who already pay PR people to do it for them, I’m always cautious about these early production run quality complaints. Sometimes early in production runs the products have more defects, fit-and-finish, and other quality issues. It can resolve itself as the production process matures.

If it persists then Apple needs to address it with a refactor. I’m sure Apple will address those experiencing quality issues with their new purchase. Apple has an almost no-questions-asked return policy as long as the product wasn’t damaged by the costumer. All those experiencing this problem should take advantage of it.

This news would definitely give me pause about purchasing this product until a few months from now.
