Yikes, glad I held off on those two generations. Kind of sad that the overall product quality has degraded so much yet they charge more and with less stuff in the box. I really don’t see where my dollars are going

so we are at 200,000,000 devices sold between 11 and 12 , and we get some random guy posting a pic of discoloring and this goes straight to the main page and ppl are reacting to this like its a known , wide spread issue with the phone?
Slow day today I guess.
Paint fading (and chipping) has been an ongoing issue with iPhones for years. A cursory google will give evidence

Nope, purely for the sense of superiority. Now we have a superior color fade effect. Like smartphone patina. Try to match that Samsung!
You can bet that Samsung’s marketing is ALREADY working on a tweet that says “GET OUR PHONE IF YOU DON’T WANT FADING” while the manufacturing guys are like COPY THAT!

I dunno… it adds a unique element to the look. It’s interesting.

It feels like this is the kind of wear & tear that would look somewhat at home in the pages of Designed By Apple in California (but on a product that’s had a longer life, I suppose).

Interesting pattern for the color loss. Almost like it was sandblasted or wiped off with solvent (which it almost certainly was not). If it was inside a case, mold release inside a case?

Apple should obtain the phone (exchange for a new one), talk to the owner and figure out what happened.
Almost CERTAINLY was not? In todays TikTok world where gluing your hair to your head can get you “internet fame”, I’m sure there are some bottles of solvent just waiting to be someone’s ticket to “Easy Street”. LOL

This color fading is actually a feature. Just like leather or brass, as the iPhone ages, it is designed to develop a unique signature look, giving the owner a satisfaction of a well-enjoyed device. Those that use an opaque case are missing out on this feature.

Actually in this case it’s those WITH a case, a clear case, clearly.

Hmmm. Yesterday, I noticed I had a blue line on my hand. For the life of me, I couldn’t fathom where it could have come from. Maybe it was from my Pacific Blue 12 Pro. Looking at the phone now, but don’t notice a fade anywhere.
This issue is with the anodized aluminum on the non pro models. The sides of your Pacific Blue 12 Pro are stainless steel.

Yeah I’d be curious to know if this is widespread and if it applies to all aluminum models or just the product red version.

No just you

This is just a cool new feature... the phone is able to tell you how your mood is just by holding the phone for 10 seconds. /S :)

I actually feel the red and gold combination on an iPhone looks unique and classy. Similar to the red and black iPhone SE 2.

It can be marketed to the Asian market where red and gold are a symbol of good fortune.
