Sadly iOS 15.2 has not fix the terrible issue with pinch to zoom on the iPhone XS Max. Unbelievable.

I can confirm that on my new 13 Pro Max with 15.2. I have this issue off an on. I have no screen protector and I have screen time disabled.

I updated my iphone X to 15.2.1 and pinch to zoom still does not work consistently. I called the apple support. The man said

  • threads like this or macroumors or reddit are not relevant to apple
  • restore the iphone via dfu
  • if the problem then still occurs, it is a hardware problem, because this problem is not listed at apple.
  • he refused to register my problem and and did not report it to apple
in other words apple does not accept software problem reports from users.

This is definitely still an issue (iPhone 13 Pro Max). Tapping small touch targets like the x to close things is where I see this most. For an otherwise super smooth phone this experience is quite jarring.

Hope it gets fixed eventually (without the need for new hardware).

It’s June 2022, iOS 16 was announced and no sign of Apple’s acknowledging this issue neither the fix for it.
When I pay (dearly) for a premium phone I expect it to be flawless and work perfectly. What I get is an annoying issue and the answer that my hardware is just fine.
