My first iPhone 4 showed up today (one more coming in the July 2nd batch). No problems with its screen at all! I also like the fact that it appears to be a bit cooler color display again (more in line with the original 2007 iPhone by the looks of it). My first 3GS last year was one of the crappy brownish displays, was able to get it replaced at the genius bar without trouble.

Hopefully the second iPhone 4 arrives looking as good as this one does (because this one is actually for my wife, the second one is mine ;))

Not a serious problem

For the worried people out there Apple has excellent customer service. This is likely a production line issue and if you get a discolored screen Apple will provide replacements as soon as they can mobilize a response. It is annoying but you aren't going to be stuck with brown spots on your screen.

One of the tech items I follow closely is display technology.

Practically every LG IPS panel has screen uniformity issues (tinting, clouding). Though it is usually more obvious on bigger panels.

Every new monitors with an LG IPS gets received with dozens of complaints about screen uniformity and eventually it dies down and hardly gets mentioned, but it is still there. I bought a late run Dell 3007-HC. Hideous uniformity, returned it.

The tragic part that other than uniformity issues IPS is the best panel technology, but only LG seems to make them for small devices and LG seems to have terrible QA (or IPS is very difficult to build).

So this really couldn't be less of a surprise while Apple uses LG IPS screens. Not sure what the solution is. I would rather stick with LG and return the problem screen until I get a good IPS than switch to TN or even VA.

It reminds me of the Cold Play song.

Look at my Mac,
Look at my iPhone too
Look their off white hue,
They’ve gone all yellow.

I e-mailed Steve
And called AppleCare too
I asked them what to do:
“My screens are all yellow”

They said “It’s not yellow,
You just need to see an optometrist,
It just the way a retina display works”

Now I’m not quite sure what to do.
Oh well,
It won’t be long and Steve will be all jaundiced too. (did I really just say that?)
But they know I’ll probably buy the iPhone 5 too
And it will be all yellow.

lol who buys apple products on launch date???

sukas...dats who.

i'll be waiting til next years version without any problems.

LOL, then you'll be the 'suka'.

I've NEVER had a problem getting defective hardware replaced, so to me the people who wait are the 'sukas' because there will always be a chance of getting a bad one.

Premier

I got 2 from At&t Premier. One has a yellow mark in lower left corner and when I compare the 2 screens the one without the yellow mark is very Blueish in color compared to the yellow mark screen. Have been on hold with Premier for over an hour for exchanges but they want 1200$ to send out replacements. What service. Potentially 2 non perfect Iphones and costing a fortune.

My 32GB iPHone 4 has none of those blobs for what its worth. I think I was due since I had multiple issues with bad displays on 3GS in the past. While I'm sure its frusterating for those with bad units, things should be kept in perspective in that its probably a small subset of phones that are affected just like in previous launches.

Shocking that the first complaints are about yellowing.

Have never heard that one before...

JESUS H CRYING OUT LOUD.

Now we get to hear stories about how some people had to exchange their iphone 37 times before they got one that was not bad... while all the normal people get their one phone and really wonder how does this ONLY happen to other people EVERY time.

I had that issue on my first gen iPhone. Hope all is well tomorrow.

LOL some of these replies are hilarious. +1 for above. I had my edge phone replaced 3x before I got one that worked!

I am activating mine right now. I'll post if I have any problems.

Yup, mine has it on that same corner ...

... but if it wasn't for this article I would not have noticed. It is quite faint on mine, and only against white is it really visible. If it stays this faint, I won't bother getting an exchange ... if more appear however ... mmm

This is a bunch of BS from Apple haters who probably don't even own an iphone (couldn't afford one if they wanted). Same thing as the imac non issue, just haters being haters.

From the photographs it appears to occur in the bottom right part of the screen. Looking at iFixit's teardown photographs it looks like that is the area where the RADIO chips and sensors are located (the A4 processor and RAM module is located higher). So this would probably mean the radio chip is heating up? Or might the radio waves itself cause the discoloration in the display?

Top of the logic board. This part lies against the back of the screen and (the left side where the discoloration is occuring) is containing:
- Skyworks SKY77542 Tx–Rx iPAC™ FEM for Dual-Band GSM/GPRS: 880–915 MHz and 1710–1785 MHz bands.
- Skyworks SKY77541 GSM/GRPS Front End Module
- STMicro STM33DH 3-axis accelerometer
- TriQuint TQM676091

me too

I am having the issue in the bottom left corner. It seems to come and go. Not to distracting. I can get by for now.

bought from Apple

Good thing I buy the Apple Care

Another reason to buy Apple Care for everything. If my Iphone tomorrow has issues like the ones being said I am happy to keep it till they get me a new one. So as long as mine works I am cool with it, not happy though. I got lucky with no iPad problem (knock on wood), so lets hope with the new iPhone!

that sucks, lemme guess you're being told that this is the cost of being an early adopter?

Bull****! if you ask me, Apple is falling to **** in terms of quality control. I'm sick of this garbage, this was never an issue with my trusty 1st gen touch when it came out, but now us non CRapple fanboyz are told to bare it by the typical fanboyz prevelent as always on Macrumors.

I wonder if it has anything to do with the radio-chip heating up due to the signal strenght issues reported in another post (where basically signal goes from full to nothing as your grab the phone in your hand....).... depressing...
