Make it a nice Swedish stainless spring steel. THAT would be something to spend $$$ on. Coke cans are made of aluminum. Bleh.

My 4S weighs a lot more than aluminum iPhones, but it is indestructable. For a phone, I'll take durability over thinner/lighter.

I had bending problems with my iPhone 5 as well. My friend also had the same issue a few months later, so I'm sure I'm not alone.

Attached an image if you're curious. Apple would not replace it (w/ AppleCare) due to the bend point right above the Volume Down button. Clearly if a device is going to bend, it will have a point.

your description of what they said makes me believe they know it will bend in a pocket. They tested and know the exact point it will bend and why. They know the design will do this when used a certain way. Kinda revealing hmm did they butt sit bend test , or , front pocket bend test? If they front pocket tested in reasonable jeans say levis (what Steve wore) and knew it would bend and they won't replace thats not fair of them

Just imagine what will happen to Apple Phone 6 Ge.

By the way, see how the rear gets uglier with every new phone.

Ah right.. It's company's fault that you put your aluminium iPhone in a place where it will be produced lots of pressure and it gets bent!

You must be those users that puts their laptop in a pillow or on top of a blanket blocking the air, and then blame the manufacture when it burns out…

If it bends is your fault, not Apple's… Apple or any other company shouldn't be blamed for improper handling from customers.

I'm with you, most of what I would have said. Again I find the lack of awareness and common sense alarming.

Sorry, but there's no way you could bend the frame of the phone like that without knowing that it felt very tight in your pocket when you were sitting. The force required would guarantee that it was noticeable.

There's money to be made for first one out with the "pocket-pocket" with roll-cage or anti-bend technology.

LMAO....

i know my note 3 does not do this.....

It's because Samsung actually listened to their engineers when they said "it gonna bend, boss".

People can talk trash, about plastic, all they want but when you pass a certain size... aluminum is going to bend. Question is, will apple start installing "metal brakes" at retail locations?

They knew this would happen, they just did an analysis on the number of incidents and rolled the dice. Not smart at all. That 1.?mm that Ive shaved off for NO REASON would have greatly mitigated this.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that a company shouldn't produce a phone like that to the mass public. If there are already cases of people bending it in less than a week what do you think it's going to look like in 6 months time?

You're right. I'd imagine rocket scientists are busy building rockets, and somewhat over/mis-qualified for an industrial design role at Apple. Incidentally, noone expects Jony Ive to want to go and work for NASA, as it may not be his bag.

Samsung could not wait to get their hands on a 5.5 and pay someone to bend it #

Smh! Conspiracy!

Maybe the weather was very hot when this happened? Metal softens with heat.

The temperature required to make aluminum bend from heat would kill the user so it wasn't that hot.

Apple should think about making the devices a bit thicker to make them hold up better, plus they could then use all that extra space for a much bigger battery. I don't remember anyone complaining about the 4/4S being too thick, they could go back to that size and get an extra 2.2mm and if they used all that extra space for the battery I bet they could get at least 2 days of battery life out of the phones plus not have to worry about bending as much.

Things I remove from my pants pockets before driving:

Keys
Wallet
Coins
Phone

I wouldn't keep my iPhone 4 in my pant pocket while driving, let alone a iPhone 6+

I keep all of those things in my pocket while driving, yes, even my keys (thanks push button start!) and have never had any problems. Maybe people need to stop wearing skinny jeans and wondering why their pockets can't hold anything.
