I agree to a point that the trolls are out in force over this however surely common sense would prevail? Manufacturers don't make suit pockets or smart casual wear to accommodate an iPad mini size device let alone an iPhone 6 + size device to sit happily in trousers. These are usually figure hugging garments. If people apply a bit of logic its not just the pocket that is the issue, it's also the fact that when seated your thighs and butt will widen/spread therefore taking up the remaining available space in those area's. Its inevitable your phone will get @!$&*!.

You're safest garment would be combat trousers. Loads of space in those and side pockets where the 6+ plus would be safe.

Come on people use that nogin (or remain being a gonad and blame someone else for your knucklehead moment)

I'm pretty sure that discussion of butt widening and thigh spreading isn't allowed on this forum.

Here we go again. Went through a small number of similar complaints for 2 years withe the 5 series.

Four hour drive with the phone on your pocket? Shoot it would be next to me to admire!!!

So a friend has a German made Mercedes whose roof was dimpled when he overloaded the roof rack too much weight- beyond the recommended amount.

Get real. Everything has limits. Mine is fine and so we're my 5 and 5S. I imagine it can happen. But know no one that has a bent one.

Don't be a worry wort. Treat it like any device and it will be fine. But don't abuse it. Sitting on it? Take it out and use it or find a better place.

It's because Samsung actually listened to their engineers when they said "it gonna bend, boss".

People can talk trash, about plastic, all they want but when you pass a certain size... aluminum is going to bend. Question is, will apple start installing "metal brakes" at retail locations?

They knew this would happen, they just did an analysis on the number of incidents and rolled the dice. Not smart at all. That 1.?mm that Ive shaved off for NO REASON would have greatly mitigated this.

or samsung just has competent engineers unlike apple.

I've just ordered a container of... ahem... "iPhone 6 un-bending tools" - I'll post my eBay listing, later:

Wear your pants up your ass then yes your gonna bend it at the curve of your waste. Gotta let those pants drop a little.

It's not improper handling to put a phone in your pocket.

Put the phone on a pocket is not improper handling… Put it on a tight pocket and probably on tight pants and then sit with the phone on that pocket and stay there for like 4 hours (like the guy in the history) plus more 4 hours… Yea.. It's improper handling…

I use mine on my front left pocket, but when i sit or i'm going to do any activity that will pressure my pocket (and the phone) i take it out…

So now Apple is even copying LG...

OK fun aside, I do consider it normal use to put a phone in my pocket, even in somewhat tighter jeans. Has never been a problem with my 4.7'' Nexus 4. However I'm also willing to believe that the "bending" didn't happen just from sitting, instead it could easy be that additional pressure was put on the phone e.g. by hitting the table when standing up, or getting in/out of the car, etc.

Aluminum is subject to bending. Best idea is to buy a rigid case Save yourself the aggravation

I bet these ppl are working for Samsung lol... I wear bootcut/relaxed/jeans/khakis and the phone is in my pocket all day... I sit most of the time and it doesn't bother me one bit. No bent phone here! Sucks to be you skinny jeans wearing hipsters lol

You all need to stop apologizing for Apple.

The fact remains, if you can't put your cell phone in your pants pocket then the cell phone has been poorly designed.
If I put my keys in the same pocket and the screen becomes scratched, is that also Apple's fault? Should Apple design phones to be put in pockets with keys?

There are many products in a variety of categories that need special handling above the usual to prevent them from being damage or keep them in working order.

My 10 year old cellphone works as well as, if not better than an iphone and I do not need to charge it every 30 minutes!!

Please DO TELL us more about this 10 year old phone model so I can continue to laugh at how completely ridiculous this statement is! :D

You can always put Galaxy Note (yeah, samsung again) into your pocket and the thing wont bend. Like i said in some eralier thread - iPhone 6 has a big flaw in its design and its starting to show. A phone should whitstand a normal day-to-day usage such as putting it into your pockets and sitting with itm and it looks like that apple failed miserably at this.
And please stop with those stupid suggestion such as "buy a case for it!" - Phone needs to be built in such way that it can be normally used with or without a case. End of story.

You (and lots of people on this thread) are mixing two different things…

Yes, Apple should work on making durable hardware, that's no question…

But, Apple (or any other manufacturing company) cannot be held responsible if you sit for 18 hours, with tight pants on your iPhone and it bends! That's improper usage… Big time!

In that line of thought of yours, Apple should also design their phones to survive without a scratch when they are thrown into purses with coins, keys, and countless liquids… They should design their phones to survive when they are thrown to a school bag with 2kg's books and keys and anyother stuff a student might put in it… etc etc etc.. That's wrong…

Again i ask… If you use a laptop on top a blanket and it burns because you blocked the air… Who's fault is that? Yea, Apple or Asus or whatever should design a laptop with the air vents away from the bottom, but… It was your misusage of the laptop that burnt it out…

Bottom line, no one is arguing that Apple shouldn't try to design durable hardware… But that has its limits… And using a aluminium phone in a tight pocket while sitting is, in my opinion, after that limit…

People don't normally use a laptop on a blanket, do they? We have tables and desks and laps for using them. If a laptop overheated from setting it on a desk that would be a problem.

Anyways, the expectation isn't that Apple build a phone that can survive tight jeans, but a $900 phone should be reasonably durable. A thin flat chassis of thin aluminum may look pretty, but it's not the best choice for durability. All Apple had to do was curve the back to make the entire phone stiffer. A curved back is easier to hold as well, and provides more room for battery - a win/win/win design choice.

or accepting users are dumber than they gave credit?

more than one way to look at it ;)

What is dumb about not expecting people to continue to store their mobile phones in the same method that they have for 10+ years?

You do realize Apple is not catering to some niche fanbase, but people on here act like it.

Design Flaw? ... No Way!

<sarcasm>

This is not a design flaw. You just need to remember the following:

1. Your $700 iPhone is very thin and can not take rough, moderately rough, lightly rough, or even medium treatment. Kid gloves should be worn at all times.

2. While you have grown accustomed to keeping your iPhone in your front pocket over the last 7 years, you should now completely abandon that practice and keep your iPhone in your hand at all times, except while driving. If you must store your iPhone in a pocket then we strongly suggest that you purchase bigger and looser fitting trousers, or consider carrying a side bag, like a purse or man-bag.

3. While your new iPhone is a beautiful work of art, because it is so thin we strongly recommend that you purchase a case of some sort to add structural integrity. The thicker and bulkier, the better. This will hide the beauty of the iPhone, but you will be glad you did when your friends iPhone is all bent up and yours still looks new.

</sarcasm>

Really? My HTC One M8 is primarily aluminum and I keep it in my pockets all the time without any bending, and I have had it since release day 6 months ago.

Cool story man. Maybe one day when you actually buy an Apple device someone will have an inkling of belief towards your extreme bias.

I feel a competition for punnery is building on this thread. Every comment attempts to up-stage the last, in a battle for the wittiest retort regarding the obvious subject of aluminium bending, and most of them are... well, rubbish, BECAUSE they're focusing on being "wittier" than someone else, instead of trying to make a good quip on its' own merits.

Wow... I'll award you all a gold star in advance, if you'd just give up trying to up-stage one another.

iPhone 7: Liquid Metal?

What's the hold up, Apple? You've had production rights for years.
