Some iPhone 6 Plus Owners Accidentally Bending Their iPhones in Pockets

It's not impossible. My coworker even bent his iPhone 4. Perhaps that was due to being run over by a tractor, though. It still works fine, by the way.

How on earth? I know that some people managed to broke its screen, but in my experience the iPhone 4 was almost as indestructible as a Nokia 3310. :D I accidentally dropped mine several times on concrete, and it just refused to get damaged seriously. That was some damn tough piece of hardware.

A bent phone is some hilarious stuff. What a hassle to whip the phone out ever afterward and be holding a bent phone. You get a JLo or Kardashian butt in there and my, how round it becomes. Where's Jony Ive, saying, "It bends to the user's characteristics, therefore it become personalized."

Sorry guys, but putting a phone in your pocket is a reasonable use-case. If it subsequently bends, the solution is not to buy a case, put it in a splint or pad it in foam - it is to make it stronger

Exactly. You would have to be a moron to think that the worlds most popular smartphone shouldn't be held to basic standards like putting the phone into a pocket....I don't care if it's tight or not.

This looks like the first iPhone where I will be forced to buy a case.

Aluminum bends, don't sit on thin aluminum.

Don't make phones so thin, without rigidity. Also, spend more on R&D. It's not like they don't have the money. A failure analysis, of some kind, in their CAD program told them this WOULD happen but they did it anyway.

CAD programs are frighteningly accurate and so are PROTOTYPES.

I see a lawsuit brewing because this is negligence. If I can't put my "phone" in my pocket, then where the eff do I put it?

ETA: Only a moron would put a smartphone in their back pocket and sit. Flip phone, yes, smartphone, no.

I don't care about having the world's thinnest phone. It seems that Apple believes that that feature is, or should be a big selling point. I don't agree. When the design starts to impede the day to day usability of a product, it is time to reassess the direction of the product development and design department, in my opinion.

I would rather have a phone with the same thickness as the iPhone 5, that also has the newer features of the iPhone 6.

Not sure if you know this or not but there were many cases where the iPhone 5 bent as well.

I've done it for 4 years in a row without problems.

I'm sure the other drivers around you would have problems should your phone ring and you decide to try to fish it out of your pocket on the road. Take the phone out of your pocket while driving. That's a safety third issue you're describing.

Another good reason not buy this awful "phone". 4.7'' is already too much, 5.5 is simply stupid and ridiculous. Hopefully Apple will find again its reason and cease to produce this obscenity.

I carry the plus in my shirt pocket. Shirt pockets are 5 inches deep. The Plus is 6.22 inches long. So it sticks out 1.22 inches. Better than a bent phone. :p Just make sure you put phone in upside down in pocket or people may think you are using camera. Lol

The problem is that bending a phone could damage the structural integrity of the battery. A battery which is damaged, becomes pierced or otherwise disfigured can lead to serious problems, as it could lead to combustion of the battery or a dangerous chemical leak.

A credit card is actually designed to be quite flexible, unlike the delicate interiors of a phone. A battery contains chemicals which are poisonous to humans, and therefore a structure which contains such chemicals should be contained in such a way as not be damaged easily. Anyone who designs a phone and doesn't anticipate that people will carry it in their pockets is simply, well stupid.

exactly, anyone that thinks this is ok and apple is not at fault is simply an apple fanboi, through and through. Those moron engineers need to realize that the average human can hold and lift a phone that is a bit thicker than 6-7mm and over 200grams. heck, we could get amazing battery life and a non-protruding camera too! SMH:roll eyes: function > aesthetics

I have hands-free blue-tooth built into my car... plus it's illegal to hold your phone and talk here. We get ticketed if you do that. I haven't picked up my phone since 2008 or 2009 to answer it. Picking up a phone that is out of your pocket period is a safety issue you're describing.

Will there ever be iPhone released without any issue? I think the last iPhone with no issue was iPhone 3GS (..or atleast i don't recall any issue with it)

Does anyone have any idea of Samsung note (any version) bending ?

All material can bend. Samsung phones are prety much plastic it only breaks. Very difficult to come up with a material so strong, not brittle, very light weighted , never bend. The problem with iPhone 6 & 6+ probably related to people still treating it like 4 and 4s type which is the strongest of all iphones. They all need to grow up!

Ive needs to back off on his thinness obsession and get some common sense and bigger batteries.

Considering my 6 is the first iPhone I had to get a case for just to make it useable lying flat on a table. (camera makes it rather unstable without the case)...I can only agree with you. Ive should remember that anyone can design something beautyfull but only good designers can design something beautyfull without sacrificing useability....

Ha! I figured someone snagged that. Well done Captain! :)
But seriously, who puts that massive phone in their pocket for that period of time and expects anything less?

It's these ridiculous "skinny" jeans I reckon. Not only uncomfortable, but damaging.

What kind of tight ass pants do you have to wear to bend a phone. I've been carrying the plus in my pocket as normal throughout the day since I received it Friday. No bends. No discomfort. I can sit and bend normally. Damn, if your aluminum phone bends when you sit, I can imagine the condition of the user's nuts.

My son bent his IPHONE 5 in his pocket which made it not work anymore.
The style the kids are wearing is tight pants like Skate Borders wear.
I had to argue with Apple for awhile about how it bent but they shipped him a loaner and then a new 5S but I am sure it helped when they looked up our account an saw we bought a lot of products from them.
I still remember the guy on the phone asking " How can we make you happy?" because I wouldn't agree or hangup LOL.

I purchased a bumper-type case for my iPhone 5 when it came out. A week later I dented the back with my elbow while the phone was in my pocket. Moral of the story: aluminum is soft.

10 million sold. 3-4 bent.

I'm in agreement with those who believe that the iPhone should be able to be carried in a pocket. I'm a woman and carry mine in a purse, but I think it is unreasonable to expect men to buy special pants or use a man purse.

Not quite sure why you quoted me?

The fact of things as they stand is that this is not an issue until a significant percentage of iPhones are bending....100,000 would be 1% of phones sold so far so until there are somewhere in this region of bent phones it isn't an issue that would worry me.

I'm entirely confident that carrying your iPhone in a pocket is not an issue for most, unless of course you're wearing those silly over tight jeans.

Just because it fits on a pocket and you can carry it on a pocket, doesn't mean that you should sit with it on a pocket… Or do any high intensive physical activity with it in your pocket…

It doesn't takes a rocket scientist to figure out that if you pressing your aluminium iPhone with the right force it will bend… And guess what? Siting with tight pants will produce that kind of pressure.
