That's just a huge Engineering 101 fail. I can't believe Apple went so much downhill after Jobs stepped into grave.

This is hilarious...

"I want a phone thats thinner, larger, and lighter, and dont make it cost more money...

oh but make it as strong as something thicker and smaller and heavier...

oh - and make the GLASS indestructible to dropping on hard surfaces...

but DONT MAKE IT COST MORE MONEY!!!

I will force it to high pressure bending in my hipster skinny jeans that hug my curves tightly, but that phone better not bend...

and if you dont meet my demands, I will post on the web about how much you failed humanity, never mind my personal expectations."

You people are hilarious. I picked up a 6 for the first time last night - and the first thing I literally said to my friend was "This is the most fragile iphone yet - apple care is a must"

Working out that math took all of 3 seconds for me.

He doesn't though so... ya know? ;)

Also, iPhone part design != desigining shuttle tiles - I can't imagine anyone expecting an iPhone to survive re-entry into earth's atmosphere, nor do I envisage shuttles or rockets bending in people's pockets to be a problem.

Excuse me? If I'm spending $1000 on a phone I certainly DO expect it to survive atmospheric reentry.

I feel a competition for punnery is building on this thread. Every comment attempts to up-stage the last, in a battle for the wittiest retort regarding the obvious subject of aluminium bending, and most of them are... well, rubbish, BECAUSE they're focusing on being "wittier" than someone else, instead of trying to make a good quip on its' own merits.

Wow... I'll award you all a gold star in advance, if you'd just give up trying to up-stage one another.

Okay, dude. Try to not get all bent out of shape about it…

Put the phone on a pocket is not improper handling… Put it on a tight pocket and probably on tight pants and then sit with the phone on that pocket and stay there for like 4 hours (like the guy in the history) plus more 4 hours… Yea.. It's improper handling…

I use mine on my front left pocket, but when i sit or i'm going to do any activity that will pressure my pocket (and the phone) i take it out…

Ok let me rephrase it.

If the new iPhone's are proven to be 25% "less durable" than their predecessor's, would that be an issue? Assuming we could theoretically quantify less durable

It's a simple question. People have been buying iPhones for years now. They used their iPhone in a certain manner for years and let's say this model had issues where as the other one's didn't. I would call that a major design flaw.

You store your phone in your back pocket? That's a disaster waiting to happen no matter which phone you're using (can get stolen, bent, broken screen, etc..).

I keep my 4s in my back pocket, it's not broken yet. Maybe Apple should use a harder metal for the 6s.

I'm sure the other drivers around you would have problems should your phone ring and you decide to try to fish it out of your pocket on the road. Take the phone out of your pocket while driving. That's a safety third issue you're describing.

Excuse me? When you are driving and the phone rings, there is only one safe action: Let it ring until it stops. If you are really so obsessive that you cannot ignore a ringing phone, park your car at the earliest safe place to do so and answer the call.

This is quite a serious problem. I wonder if apple didn't anticipate this, or they didn't come across this issue during their quality assurance testing. I wonder if were going to hear something from them regarding this.

Really? A serious problem? This is not a serious problem.

It's an end user problem. Don't sit on things you don't want to bend or curve.

I keep all of those things in my pocket while driving, yes, even my keys (thanks push button start!) and have never had any problems. Maybe people need to stop wearing skinny jeans and wondering why their pockets can't hold anything.

I have push button start. I still don't jeep keys in my pant pockets. I use my suit pockets or coat pockets for that.

And I wear nothing skinny!

This year, Apple will announce the "iPhone 6R" - the "R" is for rubber.

Okay, that was a rubb(er)ish joke, sorry.

These pockets are high enough to prevent bending. iPhone 6 owners will need to wear their pants like this...

Seriously?
I've kept my 5 in my front right pocket without a case EVERY DAY for 2 years straight. It is perfectly straight and has been subjected to tight and loose pants in the winter and summer through yard work, shoveling, jogging, road trips, etc, etc. Aluminum may be a malleable metal but not at body temperature and with the forces applied in a reasonable front pocket. Maybe even an internal heat increase. I guess I'll see when I get the 6+ but I can't fathom the thing bending under MY normal pocket storage. I'll certainly post if it bends but I find this highly unlikely.

I was one of the people who would have gotten the 6 if it wasn't for the (IMO) 3 ringers of the 6+ (401ppi, optical image stabilization, better battery life). I don't need the bigger screen but I'll take it along with these other things.

Apple?
QA Testing?

I don't understand. These 2 words shouldn't be in the same sentence.
