Thin doesn't mean weak

over 10 years ago, I had a Sanyo ultra thin cell phone that was thinner than the iPhone 6 Plus. It had a rigid bar in it to stabilize it. That thing was strong as hell. If, in fact, the phone is able to be bent easily, it is a define flaw by Apple, not caused simply by being thin.

I guess bigger is better isn't true after all.
Just make the 6s ands 6s Plus 1mm thicker and give them even more battery.
Problem solved.

Cars are designed to bend/crumple when crashed. I'm certain the iPhone wasn't designed to bend when put in trouser pockets.

The pic was in jest, but I'm also certain that that car wasn't designed to bend like that, or to be put under that particular type of extreme bending force in normal use. To extend the analogy, putting your iPhone in your pocket is perhaps the equivalent of a little bump at the mall parking lot. I would expect it to bounce back.

The bending force people are putting on the iPhone 6+ is not occuring in people's pockets.

On this (first to appear?) picture why is the infamous protruding camera ring BELOW the antenna lines?

Great catch. It's not the only inconsistency in the bend gate.

In the unboxing therapy video, the iPhone shows an earlier time AFTER the bend than during the bend. During the bending, the iPhone says 2:26 pm, while after the bending it says 1:59 pm.

It could very well be the phone was actually bent with much greater force before we saw him bend it with his bare hands. This could've made the material weaker and easier to manipulate with less force. At any rate, it does not add to the credibility of this video.

These videos are all about getting views. If you look at the TLD video, the iPhone barely bends which is not surprising since the video is sponsored by the case maker Spigen.

What we need is a professional, independent investigation on multiple phones that measures just how much force is needed to deform the phone until the change is permanent. Right now it's just a bunch of scary campfire stories as far as we're concerned.

To be honest, bend gate really tore me on purchasing a Plus, but after doing some research I guess it's just better to try and see for myself. If it does bend, I'll take it back and exchange it for a 6.

But cars were also designed to park in a parking space without acquiring dents but somehow even though I do nothing at all I get these dents in my car door just from being in a parking space.

There is such a thing as too thin. We have officially reached that threshold. What is Apple's obsession with thinner? I would rather have more battery life and a more rigid phone, personally.

I have the current ipod touch and couldn't disagree more. the current ipod touch is what I hope the iphone 7 is like. Battery and rigidity are plenty sufficient for me.

The reality is that if apple made a phone twice as thick and heavy with 3x the battery, sales of that fat clunker would be low.

If so, we could see the speaker grill at the bottom...

lol, nobody in this thread knows how perspective works. I just lined up my camera with mute switch like in the photo and can absolutely not see the speaker grill on the bottom. Try it yourself, you all sound like the morons that claim the moon landing was faked because of the different shadow directions. those same shadows happen in a parking lot on earth.

Will this also mean we will start me more broken phones with iPhone 7 and 8 ?

I dunno, if you use force any phone can break :)

It's likely they will try to go even thinner and lighter with the iPhone 7 and 8 so expect very flimsy phones in the future, but they will sell like hotcakes!

I just did, aligning the camera ring with the mute i can see the lightning port and the grill.

I usually see a lot of women stick their iPhones in the back part of their tight yoga pants at the gym. Guessing because yoga or workout pants for women don't have pockets.

That should be interesting to see if some of them switch to a 6 plus lol.

That "phone" though...... Comments incoming lol. Just some good natured fun since me and the GF have 6 pluses.

....... bah.... silly old everyone else :p - you tell 'em

Apple stock is going down slightly. This, now evident design flaw, will be an item to watch from both the stock and manufacturer approach perspectives. The significant scale of this screw up will make it an interesting case study.
This round of iPhones is obviously a failure, so perhaps Apple could pay more attention in the future not so much to the gaga juvenile factor, but a more robust portable utility device. It would also be interesting to see how would the market react to a 6 technology in the already tested 5 package.

Since when was it not designed to go in a pocket?! Where was it designed to go?

"Control the music on your iPhone without taking it out of your pocket." That's from Apple's website about the Watch, so Apple clearly think the iPhone is very likely going to go into people's pockets.

This x100

What's the point of a smartwatch if you have to carry the phone in your hand anyway?

If you bend the phone by putting it in your pocket one way... just flip the phone around and bend it in the other direction!!

That uuuge iPhone is hideous anyways... carry it in your satchel or murse.

Oh look a troll with so little usefulness to the world it has time to seek out Apple forums to stink up.

If you're wearing pants tight enough to bend your phone you should get bent. Not your phone!

Even the Ipad Airs Bend

Ipad Bent.jpg

After reading all the posts about the bending of the Iphone 6 Plus I happened to look at my Ipad Air and sure enough it is bent. I for sure do not put my Ipad in my Pocket :) But I am guessing I bent the Ipad while just everyday holding of the Ipad with both hands while reading articles or playing games on the Ipad. So even the Ipad is prone to bending see the attached picture

My wife and I each have a 64GB iPhone 6 Plus on the way and I'm not worried. They won't be here until 11/4, and since case manufacturers adapt quickly...I think in the next couple of weeks lots of new cases will come out with much more rigid backings for extra support.

Everyone put down your pitchforks and torches.

You are wrong. It will be a case study in Internet hysteria and wishful thinking.

Ill take this article into consideration when I can get my hands on an iPhone 6 Plus.... in about 3-4 weeks.

But thank you for another reminder of all the issues people are having with their iPhone 6 Plus

All these issues? First I've heard

Oh look an :apple: fanboy that's not only ignored the article but facts and the laws of physics as well. How original.

Antennagate, scratchgate, bendgate, watching the computer side of the business slowly die... That flag must be getting awfully heavy to carry.

I think Apple's still the best company in the game, but I'm also willing to call them out when they **** up like this. Blind faith and adoration doesn't make things better, it makes you look like a fool. These flawed products are exactly what you deserve.

This post is not even a very good try but I'm sure folks here will fall for it in droves.
