I had this problem on the iPhone 6 iOS 8 some months back
Only happened one time

Maybe another issue. Lots of people experienced reboots under iOS 8. My iPhone plus would reboot itself a random times, that was mainly due to memory issues

but the only way it would turn on was to hold the power and home button

And..we're going to put some form of :apple:Software in a car?
Don't get me wrong as I have been an Apple user since Apple II. It appears that as we reach a level of computing that is so complex, that the issues become more challenging. My current vehicle certainly has a strong reliance on it being more computer based, but I really don't seem to have to be concerned about breakdowns. Apple needs to tighten down on quality control if we're going to trust them to be in charge of our safety in an auto. Having these issues just with a phone is concerning.

Totally unrelated (probably), but my 6th gen iPod touch has turned off with the same thing of having to hold the buttons to restart it a few times in the past weeks or so, but I'm still running iOS 8.4.1, so I don't know what's up with that.

I think you're right. iOS 9 interacting with some app. The usual suspect would be Facebook.

Er, the much more likely suspect is one of the hundred system daemons running on the phone. 3rd party apps can't do this. Some system daemon (or daemons) are pegging a core or two and causing the phone to overheat.

My screen was black, but the phone was working. I could activate siri, I could toggle the vibrate, but the screen was black. I had to hard reset for the screen to come back.

Yes, this is what happened to me the other day. I didn't think the issue was occurring for me but if this is what it is, then yes.

Probably restored from backup. Leave your old junk from that 3GS behind.
I was the first person to reply to the original thread (I was about to write one myself). Nope, did a clean install a few weeks before getting my 6s. As mentioned later in the thread, my wife also had the issue on iOS 9 on her iPhone 5. She has only had an iPhone 4 and the iPhone 5, so not a lot of backups restored from. The iPhone 5 is practically new as we replaced it in August under the lock button replacement program. This is clearly an iOS 9 problem and not a 6s problem.

I've had the AT&T version of the 6-Plus since launch day, haven't run into the issues mentioned here. I upgraded to 9.01 a couple hours after I picked up the phone, and then 9.1 beta 2 a few days later, now on beta 3.

One thing I have noticed, whereas my 6-Plus would at times get warm, the 6S-Plus runs >hot< Not hot enough to burn, but a lot hotter than the 6-Plus. Nothing to do with the home button, it's the top half -- especially up in the camera lens area.

Ok. Let's get it right, it's not powering off its just not waking up, e.g. It's on but the display is blacked out and the only way to get it back is to reset by holding down the buttons.

I have had this on iOS 7 and 8 and have had friends with iPhones and iPads that have done this before. I normally get a call saying that their phones or iPads don't turn on but they are fully charged etc. I tell them how to reset and boom it's back on. Looks like this bug is happening more often in ios9.

I swear, if it's not zooming out, bending, shutting off, Wi-Fi not working, cellular shutting off, more bending, then it's not an iPhone!

On a serious note though, could Handoff be to blame? Sometimes when the little icon appears on the lock screen I have to press the home or power button twice to turn the display on. Just an idea...

I am on 9.02 on both my 6s Plus and my Air 2. Been have been perfect since launch day. It can't just be the OS otherwise everyone would be having the problem.
It has to be a combination of an App and OS

I experienced 1 time shut off two days ago. I thought it was because of software bug............. oh.... wait........ Did you tell "Some iPhone 6s"?........ Mine was iPhone 5s.
