You mustn't be one of the people experiencing charging problems
or one of the people seeing the front camera giving dodgy photographs
or one of the people experiencing wifi and/or LTE connection issues
or one of the people who've dropped it more than a foot off the ground and had the whole thing shatter

For £1100 I wouldn't be expecting these sort of issues. It makes me wonder if the new iPads are gonna be as shoddily designed. I've been planning on buying one but I'll have to wait and see now.

Is your iPhone X’s exhibiting any of those problems?

I have two and neither of mine are.

LoL when you were saying: What else has Apple released that is half baked??? And not your anti Apple opinion, but FACT what did you imply? That he can't even give one objective example because Apple is perfect? The he is just biased and absolutely nothing else? That apple can't be criticized in any way?

And actually the iphone 6 is a great example: problematic design that made the phone more susceptible to bends(which was fixed with the 6s), caused other problems like Touch Disease and forced Apple to throttle the phone's performance because of subpar batteries.

So are you admitting the other poster is anti apple.

Curious but which Iphone are you currently using, I only ask because you seem very angry at apple.

Lot of people are saying Apple charges premium so it has to be near perfect and Apple slow down old phones purposely and now this charging issue. WELL...

- Apple charges premium because of the technology that provides its consumers. It's hi-tech eco system. It's regular updates and service provided to it's consumers. The research & development that goes behind right from iPhone to Mac. Google has still not able to fixed its blue tint screens on Pixel 2. Android 9 pie is currently used only 0.1% Android smartphones. If there is a bug on any Android smartphone, you don't know when it's going to be updated but with Apple, you know it's going to be updated within weeks time. That's what you pay for. Right from the top notch materials to the best technology used both in hardware & software with unmatched service and updates, that's where your money goes. It's not a gimmick that they throw you the features and then if it doesn't work they put their hands up and say, good bye.

- Apple did have the guts to tell the world that we slow down the iPhones so they can function well and even came up with the faster OS in iOS 12 for older iPhones. Android has yet to even acknowledge the fact that every Android Smartphone after 2-3 years of usage, it becomes slow. There's a lot of heating issue and lags. Hardly any updates nor any solution towards it. There's only 1 gimmick that works for Android smartphone companies, increasing the RAM every time and then and say now you have the fastest smartphone in the world while A12 Bionic 7NM Chip is the first in industry with the fastest GeekBench results in the WORLD.

- There's no comparison for Apple vs rest of the smartphones. They use 2D Facial Recognition while Apple uses 3D Infrared Facial Recognition. Those two are very different and has completely different results too. 7NM Chip by Apple is also the first in industry which only Huawei claims to be making while Qualcomm Snapdragon is still on 10nm and that also is slower than A11 Bionic chip which Apple released last year. Hardware also what any Android Smartphone uses are most of them cheap plastics and has no stainless steel like iPhones do which makes them look premium. iOS eco system is incomparable and unbeatable at the moment against Android.

In simple words, Apple has its own world where the consumers are living a totally different life than compared to other companies because they don't have that eco system. A small bug of charging is also bad for a USD1000 iPhone but there is peace of mind that it will be rectified because it's APPLE.

Your forgetting nvme based storage vs ufs.

That’s a pretty big one, but correct on all fronts.

I'm sure Apple didn't expect people to sit on their phone. I'm sure no phone was design to be sit on in the first place. And when u want something thin and light, things do get more fragile.

Therefor Bendgate is stupid as I also have the older iPhone and didn't even manage to bend it until today.

The main issue with "bendgate" was not phones being bent out of shape, but the constant flexing of the frame, which constantly flexed the motherboard. This led to specific joints breaking under ICs which had no underfill. The effects of this took months/years to materialise and affected the 6s and 7 as well, even though those frames had been made stronger.

I have the same issue with an iPhone X. It will work sometimes perfectly once plugged in. This happens either with it on or black screen. I've had to remove the cable and flip it over (makes no sense of course). That tends to work 90% of the time. However, sometimes it just takes a few more tries to get it to start charging. Wireless charging works perfectly every time. So, this must be some kind of recognizing the cable is connected issue. Hopefully a software patch will fix it.

I disagree with virtually all you said, however the bit on bold got me. Had the guts? Really?! They had very little option other then to hold their hands up and apologise.

Let’s be real here... Would you not complain if your phone didn’t charge? (Think outside the Apple box for this one.)
[doublepost=1538368280][/doublepost]
Anti-Apple hatred? Defensive much? I have pre-ordered every iPhone since the 4 (excluding 4S), the original SS Apple Watch, new SS series 4, and have a MacBook Air, Mac mini, and the newest iPad... man, I must really hate Apple.

Try again.

And yes, a $1,000 phone should be expected to charge without any issues. This is probably the single most important and basic functionality required for an iPhone, and has been working for over a decade. I never said anything about being “out” that money. Don’t put words in my mouth.

I don’t think it’s the slightest bit unreasonable to expect your phone to charge when you plug it in.
[doublepost=1538369272][/doublepost]
So you didn’t watch the video. Gotcha.

This is by far the worst feature of Apple products: it’s rabid sheep fanbase, who get deeply and personally insulted by any semi-negative comment about Apple.

I love Apple products. iPhones and iPads and Macs are the best devices I’ve ever used. Build quality is fantastic, OS is smooth, and everything overall is just great.

But the fanboys... oh god, the toxic fanboys...

LOL.... that this catastrophic "hardware" disaster that is just destroying peoples lives was fixed in like a day. With a software update. I mean... people may have been forced to turn in their screen a couple times to charge. How can Tim cook sleep at night. And those damn Apple Fan boys, who said to calm down...
haha.

When people make noise, problems get fixed.

You’re welcome.

The catch here is that at the time the video was released, iOS 12.1 beta had already been released, which reportedly fixed the charging issue.

So it wasn’t that Apple was not aware of the issue, and it wasn’t that Apple was never going to fix it.

But as always, it’s just easier to generate hysteria and controversy rather than get your facts right, because the latter actually requires more work and doesn’t always result in more views.

The general public does not get into the whole beta thing. And Apple still hasn’t publicly acknowledged the issue in any way, so those people won’t even know it’s coming soon. Well, “soon” as in weeks from now.

Unboxtherapy isn’t the general public. As a self-styled tech you tuber, it’s not unreasonable to expect that he has done his homework before releasing the content that he does.

Instead, he saw an avenue to bash Apple, pander to his Apple-hating audience and generate tons of views at the same time, and he went with it. His video had just enough truth to generate the uproar that it did, while also painting a very one-sided picture of the situation.

Same with his “beauty gate” video, which has now been proven to be factually inaccurate.

I guess I can’t blame him though. Click bait works, and in such a hyper-competitive environment, it’s a race to get your content out before the rest do so you get their attention. It certainly got this forum talking, though not necessarily in the most constructive of ways, so I guess he is doing something right (for himself) in that regard.

To be honest, I can’t stand him and his extreme bias, so I fully expected to see him bash Apple left and right in that video, and I was prepared to catch my eyes as they rolled so far they’d fall out. Then I watched the video, and I was legitimately surprised when all he did was explain and demonstrate the problem. Of course, only later did we (him included) find out this was more widespread than just the new hardware.

Well... please make noise about updating the mini. I want a new computer that isn't crap! :D
Me too! My mini is still holding strong, but I would like a new MacBook Air with the old style keyboard. My Air is getting a bit sluggish.

Don’t see how you can call him fair when he claimed the iPhone xr has the same resolution as the iPhone 4.

The point he was trying to make is that an apparently "superior" LCD screen is still only able to run HD videos (720p) which if I remember correctly the iPhone 4 did too, so yeah, he was spot on, whether you like it or not, you gotta ask what's so bloody fancy about that "best ever LCD in an iPhone" if I'd still end up watching YT in 720p. :)

Why nothing? A discussion is a discussion.

Yeah, no context, more than half was just bashing Apple, ignoring that fact that a fix had already been pushed up in 12.1 beta, it was less a discussion and more than just another outlet to vent at Apple for the heck of it.

Pretty much any thread of this nature in particular. Doesn't quite mean there wasn't something to discuss beyond/outside of all that other noise given that the issue was in fact present and affecting devices/people.

But the sad reality is that very little of any real value ended up actually being discussed here. Especially when you rush out to comment on an issue such as this, I doubt anything of real value can be added when you haven’t had the time to sit down, read up on the matter, and reflect on it to form an informed opinion, and make the effort to type out a cogent response.

More frustrated that there was very little of real value to be gleaned from this thread. In the end, it took another YouTube video released only a little later than that unboxtherapy video to shine light on the issue. So it wasn’t that the truth wasn’t out there, but that for most part, they simply didn’t care because it didn’t fit their narrative.

Same with the beauty-gate matter. In both cases, the truth was a lot more benign, but that didn’t stop the haters from running away with the narrative that Apple was once again deliberately screwing around with their customers and losing the plot.

I doubt these people really care whether other people are able to charge their devices or not. They just want to see Apple burn.

And the saddest thing about this affair is this UT Video and it’s nearly 6mio views.

That’s a perfect lesson about how it’s possible to earn money these days.

An issue is discovered and is discussed. Not much to research when it's initially discovered and when there isn't much to it even a bit after that when nothing official about it comes out one way or another. Talking about it is all that can be done--people are surely not going to just sit back and not discuss something that affects them. Yes, there's plenty of extremes and absolutes and hyperbole and all of that that could really be avoided, but among all of that there are some realistic discussions that are also present, even if they might seem like they are being mostly drowned out by that which isn't all that useful.
