Ironically I have two computer monitors attached to VESA mounts for my home-office set-up and if I could consistently get them to even close to 1mm of being level I would be dancing a major happy dance. Hey, don't get me wrong, brand new computer should not be significantly off level but the angst we are about to see expressed on this forum is going to be overwhelming and way beyond reason.

"1mm disparity". People are insane.
How can people be expected to work on an iMac when the screen is crooked… Shame on apple, this is unacceptable.

Imagine forcing consumers to crane their neck just to get a normal viewing experience. Lawsuits in coming!

Steve Jobs would’ve never allowed this, this is another Tim Cook cost cutting low-quality hack job.

I just check my 2009 24" Cinema Display and it is about 1.6mm off but I think I'm past the return window. It isn't visible to me buy 4mm would be and if I had a new iMac that was that far off I'd return it since it would drive me nuts.

For anyone in the UK affected by this, Apple’s return window is irrelevant. The Consumer Rights Act 2015 provides that goods must be of satisfactory quality, which, plainly, this sort of defect would breach. There surely must be some sort of equivalent provision in the laws of most western countries.

This forum thread has convinced me.

I'm amazed that I didn't notice until now.

Really?

" Checked mine after watching this and it's also crooked.
Not to the degree of his, but not completely level either.
I'm outside of my return window and I can't take the time hit of not having a machine to work on for a month, but super disappointing that Apple of all companies is shipping units with such a glaring oversight."

While I'm certainly in belief that some machines were shipped from the factory like this the part I highlighted is my favorite line of crap. Somehow people find stuff AFTER the return period so they can have a reason to complain on the internet about Apple. This line of text was the commonly used on the Apple Support Forums. The fact that something like measuring the level of straightness on one's computer would only be done from someone really OCD it's strange they would only discover it after the return period. SMH.

Exactly because Tim Cook makes Apple more money putting out tilted machines that they will have to fix under warranty or exchange. What ridiculous nonsense. 🙄

First World problems. Not news worthy. Just return it and get a new one.
Many problems in the first-world are indeed, first-world problems. If you actually knew what the the first-, second-, and third-worlds are then you would realise why your comment is ridiculous.

Having said that, complaining about a 1mm tilt is beyond ridiculous. It’s just your analysis that is off.

I'd be very very hard pressed to tell you whether my iMac 5K is off by 1mm either way. It may well be. I also live in a 100+ year-old building so absolutely nothing is perfectly level in here anyway. Also my desk is on carpet, and it's well possible that's settled 1mm in any direction. And how's the humidity today? Quite possible the wood on my desk has swelled or contracted 1mm depending on the day.

If we're truly talking about 1mm here, I have a strong feeling this is 1. within tolerance and 2. something that people are fixating on because they're looking.

If Apple wants to be a premium brand and charge for it then really should be exact. Always touting their design prowess.
Ah so you're saying that every other expensive machine such as the Microsoft Surface Studio for over $3,000.00 is perfect in every which way? Are you saying that every expensive flat screen TV is perfect in every which way? Are you saying that Apple is the only company that touts their design prowess but puts out flawed products?

This is the exact reason I opted for the M1 MBP once they never appeared at WWDC even though I know the new ones are on way… it’s guaranteed the new refreshed design is going to have issues of some kind.

I get the obviously crooked ones but people with their Mac out by 1 mm? Give me a break princess. How’s that pea feeling right about now?

1mm is a lot to anyone with an engineering eye. If it's true that some of these units are varying by a millimetre then that is definitely a design or manufacturing issue that warrants discussion for those affected or interested.
