Some M1 iMac Orders Begin Shifting to 'Shipped' Status With May 21 Delivery

Because it's table stakes at this point. Why do we accept such a garbage stand just because it's been garbage in the past? They've improved every other aspect of the computer, what makes the stand so special that it's not allowed to get better over time?
OK, yes, it would have been nice to get a G4 iMac-like trick arm as a stand. You can say that about any mounted monitor or AIO.

But as far as fixed-stands go, the iMac's is (arguably)nicer than pretty much every AIO out there. I like this stand more than the one it replaces.

Apple knows iMac customers don't care, and those who do get a VESA stand, just like they'd have to do for ANY monitor.

So I just don't see this as a point of contention and derision of Apple's decision.

I am surprised these Mac's and iPad's were not ready to go shortly after the April event. Apple could probably have killed some of the controversy about the iMac's light grey bezel if reviewers got their hands on the iMac quicker.
I don’t think Apple is concerned about “all the controversy“. No one outside of this site or others like it will have any concerns over it.

I want to see what these things actually look like. The photos and advertising materials are airbrushed to hell and back.
“Airbrushed”? Is it 1980 all over again? 😉

Apple products usually grow on me over time....this being the exception. I wasn't a fan during the keynote and now I flat out hate this design. Looks like something Lenovo would shart out.
I bought a M1 Mac Mini the day after these were announced because I really don’t like them. That being said, I think they’ll be much more palatable in person. But as someone who isn’t under 40 anymore, I just don’t want a Fischer-Price looking computer on my desk, but I imagine the youths will like ’em enough.

Disagree - I'm in my 60's now and looking forward to a 27-32" blue model :)

It's probably just my perception...... but, at first, the strong blue colour of the back of the iMac on the left of the picture made me miss altogether the lady facing the pink iMac on the right.

Why only compare to AIOs? At this point the iMac might as well be a monitor, you can compare it to any other monitor mounting system.

Pretty dang cool. I'm trying to size out and buy a desk before committing to an iMac, but hopefully I can manage it by the end of the month.

Why they removed the Apple logo from front? these look awful 😢 I will never buy one and I’ve been an iMac fan and user for 2 decades
Literally no other Apple products have featured the logo on the front. The MacBook/PowerBooks were on the back. The iPod/iPhone/iPads? Back. The iBooks/iMacs back in the day...back up until the G4 where they put that chrome one right there. Mac Pro/PowerMacs? Sides.

There are a few exceptions, like the Magic Mouse has one right there, I am willing to bet that they may move it to the bottom when they redesign it.

I also have no idea what's considered the front of the AirTags, but I guess that can be considered the front.

I am guessing you weren't around during the G3 iMacs. Lots of places had them, no matter how "professional" the place was.

In the over 40 crowd. This is the first iMac I’ve purchased in at least 15 years. Love the colors. Brings back nostalgia from some of my first Macs. I never owned a colored iMac, but I had some of the old color Power Mac G3/G4 towers. I hope Apple offers this as a CTO option for Mac Pro and MBP too.

I received the same alert for my new iPad Pro (Arriving May 21). Still waiting for shipping confirmation on the Magic Keyboard ordered at the same time.

the logo on it's own is not the point..the whole design is ruined.silver black iMac is a masterpiece of design..never gets old or feels dated..these new iMacs designs are AWFUL.

I love how you gave some perfect arguments on how the new design is awful. Oh wait. You didn’t.
In my honest opinion, it’s perfect. The chin does not need a logo, it is unmistakably recognizable as an iMac, because of the chin.

The colors are beautiful, and the light grey bezel will make the new screen seamlessly blend in to the light background in my living room. I also absolutely love the choice for a complete glass front.
‘this thing will be stunning.
you mentioned the silver black iMac as a masterpiece of design. Don’t get me wrong, it absolutely is. But it is no longer 2012 and the black and thick bezels are outdated. But that’s just my opinion.

It’s weird how opposed you are to improvements.
I'm not, and I've stated as much. Anything can be improved.

You're positioning the issue of iMac stand adjustability as a detractor for getting an iMac.

I find that unreasonable, even if I agree that it would be nice for the iMac to come with a more adjustable stand.

That said, we've seen what a "more adjustable stand" from Apple means cost-wise, so do we really want to go down that road with a consumer-level device like the iMac?

From that perspective, and given that Apple at least provides VESA compatibility, the iMac stand's adjustability is a non-issue and somewhat nitpicky.

All I said was that they should have given it a more adjustable stand. I’m not buying an iMac either way because I don’t need a desktop computer, I just think it’s a design misstep.

well based on reaction here so far (product announcement thred) ,majority of people disagree with you.
this design is ugly and a disaster when compared to current and older generations.
this is a very casual immature design language appealing to children and people who hate technology.
we'll see how long they keep this,my prediction is it'll joint the destiny of the god awful iPhone 5C..

majority of people disagree with you.
Ah, yes, the always looming majority of people that is casually and most fortunately made up out of macrumors forum members.

apple will sell this product by the thousands, just not to you. That’s fine, but don’t pretend that your opinion is “the majority’s”.

the design language is not “appealing to children and people who hate technology”, it will probably appeal to the majority of the homes, who don’t want another black or gray box in their home.

Edit: to further clarify, my intention is not to attack you or your preference for a darker colored iMac with probably black bezels and a bigger screen. My intention is to make clear that apple is aiming for the bigger audience, all the families, students, work-from-home-persons, all the ones for whom this product will be remarkably well suited.

and on a personal note, I find it funny that so many macrumors members seem to think that a bit of color doesn’t make this machine “pro”. As if it’s the color that makes it pro. The M1 that lets you do your professional work in a jiffy makes this machine pro.

in my work as a urban designer, I consider myself a pro, I would love to work with the M1 iMac. 24” is more than enough, grey, green or blue would suit me. For my home (and work from home situation) i ordered a blue one. And I’m gonna pro the hell out of it ;)
