… and where do you think those are made?

Its the BTOs that are causing the bottlenecks. You can easily buy a Windows laptop that can be upgraded after its purchased. Not so with any Mac laptop. Only one vendor, one pipeline, and we have people waiting since November.

Funny observation: the Apple Store app no longer shows me an “orders” section in the sidebar. I have to co to ”my account” and view my order from there. The Siri shortcut to check order status also no longer works. Maybe both of those features ignore orders older than 3 months?

Not necessarily. Lots of configurations are sold out everywhere. i know people who are trying to onboard engineers and having to buy low-end consumer-grade machines (laptop CPUs can’t be upgraded post-purchase) because they can’t even get stock configurations of higher-spec machines. This has a real impact on productivity.

Companies like Apple and Dell have created some of their own bottlenecks by not offering stock configurations that many pro users actually want. Buying behaviours have changed, and we are now forced to “future proof” our machines by maxing out RAM and storage when built.

If Apple looked at their sore data, they would probably see that a “loaded midrange” configuration with an M1 Max, 64 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage is probably the sweet spot for a lot of their pro users, but they continue to offer only stock configurations with half of those amounts.

Well credit card has a pending charge for the device again. No change to the order status yet. Anyone else have this happen or any updates?

Mine was delivered yesterday. Man, this thing is a beast. And the sound from the onboard speakers is unbelievably good. Still getting used to the key travel after hammering away on my 2017's butterfly keyboard for 5 years. So far, really impressed, other than a couple of spontaneous Wi-Fi disconnects.

When did you order and what were your specs?

Annoying, to say the least. After ten years with my Mini, I figured it was time to step up… ordered a 16” MB Max 64Gb 2TB. I’m told it’ll be end of July. Zoinks!!

Update, got shipping email from apple today that a shipping label was created. Weirdly enough, the credit card charges have disappeared.

Has anyone thought about trying to get "compensation" for these delays from Apple or does anyone have experience of how Apple conducts their customer satisfaction?

Ordered my MacBook Pro back in February and still no confirmed delivery date :-(
At this rate they may as well cancel all these and just send out the 2022 update later in the year ;-) seems an appropriate level of compensation for being "patient"

High-end MacBook Pro models are experiencing extended delivery times due to component shortages and ongoing lockdowns in China caused by the global pandemic, according to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

In the online Apple Store, M1 Max and custom M1 Pro versions of the 14 and 16-inch MacBook Pro deliveries are delayed until late May or early June, and in-store pickups are unavailable until June.

We have also heard from several MacRumors readers who were waiting on MacBook Pro models ordered in March and April and who have now had their shipments significantly delayed because of Apple's supply issues.

MacRumors reader Eric, for example, ordered in March and was supposed to receive his machine by April 22, but now his order has been delayed until mid-May. MacRumors reader Vera was supposed to get an M1 Max MacBook Pro on April 13, but now the estimated delivery date is May 9 to May 16.

We've received several reports from frustrated Apple customers who have been patiently waiting for their MacBook Pro models to arrive in April, and many of them are now being forced to wait until at least May as Apple tries to solve its supply issues.

Apple might provide more color on its supply chain problems during Q2 2022 earnings call which is set to take place on Thursday, April 28. In addition to MacBook Pro shipping delays, Apple is also seeing delays for the Mac Studio with M1 Ultra chips, and some Intel-based Mac Pro models.

The MacBook Air, Mac mini, and iMac appear to be readily available, as do Apple's iPhones, iPads, and Apple Watches.

Not just the Mac Pro. I ordered a iMac with extra memory in mid-April. It had, stress had, a delivery date of mid-June but now it appears it will be late August before I get it. Currently using a MacPro at work, which is more than a little painful. Sigh.

I ordered a MacBook Pro 16” M1 Max 10-core CPU & 32-core GPU/ 32GB/1TB in December 2021 and haven't got it yet. Could Apple use its dominance wrongly and abuse its dominant market position and favor other resellers at the cost of minor ones? Or could even different countries be treated otherwise?

For most areas, such components, it already does. Try to get a silicon chip if you aren't Apple ....
