Haters and other nonsense aside, Apple has a good thing going with News+, but the team they assigned to handle the launch did a pretty bad job. Searching for articles is hard, and trying to open e.g. a WSJ article from the web on Apple News+ is more difficult than it needs to be.

Apple should spend more money to hire more (and better) people to manage Apple News+.
deniers and justifiers aside, apple has nothing going on lately

Environmentally, Apple is leading the way for all tech companies. They will take every device they have ever made and recycle it for free. They will even pay for you to ship it to them!. They have 100% renewable energy at all stores and data centers, etc., and are now applying that standard to their suppliers.

C'mon. They are not "recycling" MBPs that are returned. They glued the speakers, keyboard, trackpad, and the battery together! So if you have one of those parts that needs replacing, they have to replace all of them. They don't let you add RAM after purchase to any of the machines except the iMac and the Mac Pro. Hell, just about everything is glued/soldered to the point where there's very few scenarios where you can easily replace one part.

I know someone who works on the EPA panel that regulates e-Waste standards. They are a longtime Apple product fan and user, but they will also tell you that Apple fights uniform standards the hardest of the tech companies.

At some point, more money or resources in general does not translate to better service or quality products.

Apple News+ just started. It's nowhere near that "some point".

Past is past. Present is present. Glory in the past is not the justification of forgiving a horrible and messed up present.

What are you talking about? I'm not trying to link to Apple's past in any way. I'm talking about Apple News+ now as it is, which could stand improvement. I don't understand what justification could be implied from my post.

But that would eat into Apple's 50% cut.

That's the whole point of the 50% cut if you ask me. That cut should be spent towards a good news platform experience. Right now Apple News+ is pretty sub-par for a 50% cut IMO.

What "deniers" and "justifiers" are you talking about?

Apple to publishers: "File a radar". As an iOS developer this is hilarious.
I can't comprehend why a trillion-dollar-company's support is so abysmal.

Getting a lot of content providers should have been the hard part. That is what Apple has less control on.

The user experience, in short, the app, is what should be a given, Apple should have thrown that one out of the stadium.

apple lawyers, people act like i don’t like apple, i like apple i just don’t like mr cook, i don’t like the new apple under mr cook, is not better in any way, is not the same, is worse, no innovation and many more complaints that honestly there is no point to bring em up anymore, those that accept apple under mr cook, that is fine with me, but don’t tell us or try to forced us to accepted, we have all the right to complaint, because apple lower it’s standards, quality control and many more things that made the real apple in the first place, once you remove all that from the table then what is left, todays company, s shadow of it former self, living off it’s name and prestige

those that want to defend apple , no problem but let others complaint and share their fustration

sorry but my personal opinion is that mr cook has ruined apple

“but apple has triple their revenue”
yes the company is still successful for now

but tim has ruin many things that only an unbiased person who hasn’t been brainwashed can see

I already canceled my trial. Absolutely horrible app/service/content/etc. Does not take advantage of devices well.

You need to stick with it. Things will improve. Apple News+ is an amazing value when you look at the content you're getting across your devices.
[doublepost=1555371017][/doublepost]
I subscribed for two days and then promptly unsubscribed. They are competing with free news services, cheap magazine subscriptions, and other content in the space. So 9.99 is the cost of a yearly magazine subscription. I would need to read 12 magazines to really get value out of the service.

High quality content isn't cheap to produce. You should give Apple News+ a few months at least to see how it fits into your life.

You guys are so snarky.

Of course Apple takes care of the larger publishers better than the smaller ones. That's just business.

Get a grip.

If Steve Jobs was still around, he'd be arranging one-on-one meetings with anyone who wanted one - both large and small publishers. :D

The quality of apples products and services have declined over the last couple of years. It's truly a shame, I was a hardened apple fan from 2005 - 2015. Now the only thing that continues to be top level are the damn prices.

The quality of the hardware products remains top-notch, and you can't argue with that. With that comes the high prices. Another no-brainer. But the quality of their "new" services is suffering slightly due to the company doing so many things now. They need to keep Jobs' wisdom in check.... have a narrow, consumer-focused product and service selection.

Apple can't do services. Each time they do something they fail. This will be another ping :D

They've done the biggest digital music store in the world.
They run the most lucrative and impactful App Store in the world.
iCloud is now a huge success story.
Apple Music is the biggest music subscription service in the US, and also expanding rapidly around the world.
Apple Pay has been a game changer.
And services revenue continues to soar upwards to the delight of investors.

Yeah Apple can't do services.

It is not a good way to start off when users are cancelling the free trial and small publishers are feeling left out. If Apple don’t make improvements, this new service will not take like they hope it would.

Yes, he's "obviously" never picked up a magazine at any newsstand before.

Nice American flag avatar. What is it they say about patriotism being the last refuge of a scoundrel?
Nice way calling other posters names. (For having an American flag avatar... seriously you have some hate issues)
Btw the same guy that supposedly said your quote also said this
„a patriot is he whose publick conduct is regulated by one single motive, the love of his country; who, as an agent in parliament, has, for himself, neither hope nor fear, neither kindness nor resentment, but refers every thing to the common interest."

Tim Cook has been CEO since 2011 and now you're finally calling it "The New Apple"?
ok...
is been called the new apple ever since mr cook came in
that is what differentiate mr cook era from, Steve era
apple, the real apple under Steve

and now this disaster called "the new apple" or what ever you want to call it
under your beloved mr cook

I didn't decide to call it that , that what is what some people call it

when I made that comment I wasn't just referring about time
but the new things that apple been doing lately
that's why I called "the new apple"
because is something that the real apple won't normally do

but since it seems that you want to be a wise guy

the iPhone was launch on 2007 but every year Tim say
"the new iPhone" because is a new model and changes has been made
so "the new apple" apple under Tim Cook as CEO
because he was selected as the new CEO and changes has been made

apple was founded in April 1 1976 so is not new

the cats only has 4 legs that thing you see in the back
is not a 5th leg, is a tail

nice try , failed attempt

Tim Cook may have gotten Apple to 1 trillion, but Steve job would have gotten it to 2 trillion without alienating us Apple fans.

I have zero interest in subscribing to news+. My question is: how do I block Apple News+?? Right now, about 20% of the "news" in my feed is news+ which are really just ads, since I can't actually view them without signing up. I can block other news sources, why not news+?

Every day, I get a little more motivated to try out some other free news app.

1) Taking 50% is terrible business. The mafia didn't even take that much.

2) There is a market for people who want non-politically biased reporting, analysis and features, but don't want to pay the premiums major newspapers are indvidually charging.

3) As others here have mentioned, the implementation is half-baked and terrible.

If they lower their cut, and fix the implantation, this could be successful.

The small-time publishers need to ask their middle-school offspring how to jockey for a seat at the popular-kids' lunch table, either that or borrow a page from Winona Ryder's character's playbook in the movie Heathers.

haha typical apple or better said typical Tim
the ones that pays more get better treatment

Has anyone else noticed a dramatic change in the way plain old Apple News works since the debut of News+? Prior to the introduction of News+, the headine items in the Today and Digest sections seemed to be, well, mostly real news. Now it's all Kardashians and Game of Thrones. If I were relying on Apple News to be informed, I'd never have known Notre Dame caught on fire today.
