Removing features is the trend de jure. Apps need to recognize that one size definitely does not fit all and find ways to minimize clutter without removing features.

Removing features is simply the lazy way out. I hope these people are happy at Apple because Apple is the leader in removing features and only supporting a very narrow use case focused on teens and college kids.

This is a silly post. Completely anecdotal from a couple of Reddit posts presented as an actual newsworthy trend

I love Apple Music’s layout and navigation. Spotify’s on the other hand... yuck. Heres what I’m seeing:
Apple Music is designed for those who like the actual albums and like to browse by album. Spotify seems more geared toward a collection of songs from all different albums. They’ve seemed to disregard the “flow” or “theme” of an album in lieu of just getting you your music fast. This in itself is not a bad thing but navigating it is terrible. Apples layout on the other hand makes it easy to view albums and their songs.
I’m one of those people who hears a song and if I like it, I want to hear more songs from that album. Spotify makes me tap and click way too many times for this to happen and that’s enough for me to not use it.
THAT BEING SAID, that’s why I prefer Apple Music and Apple’s layout.

Spotify has always been particularly good at downgrading their service and not listening to customer's requests and concerns.
I was among those very saddened by their disappearance of the internal messaging system, which was a good way to share music and playlists with friends.

I find it silly that people would migrate to another music streaming service because of a UI change. But hey, that's the society that we live in nowadays.

While I prefer Apple Music's navigation, layout and UI, Spotify still is superior in music recommendations. So for that, I'm sticking with Spotify (plus, free Hulu helps too).

This is really freakin lazy writing, even by the standards of a free blog like MacRumors. A semi-popular reddit thread does not make this news, nor interesting, nor anything said a fact.

Even if every person who up-voted that thread is a paying Spotify customer (which is generous to say the least, reddit is known for schit-posting for no reason), then they still represent 0.001% of Spotify paid users. That a teeny tiny fraction of users is voicing some displeasure on a website pretty much made for the purpose of voicing displeasure is nothing. It's not news. It's not interesting. It's proof of no fact. It's just a typical everyday internet social-media circle-jerk.

Nope. Spotify's carplay app is lacking as is their apple watch app. Once they fix those things then maybe.
Apple also has more music and better sound quality. Interface has less bloat and I find it easier to navigate as a result. Spotifys interface is more visually appealing.
Music recommendations are better on spotify but apple has been catching up. It's no longer the dealbreaker it once was.

CarPlay!... I’ve yet to see anyone have an issue with Spotify and CarPlay, I think it works fine...
Apple does not have more music for everyone..... and it’s interface is so plain and dull and I have to say, not as easy to use. I’d also seriously question your claim on the sound quality as I’ve used both extensively and have not heard a difference! Bonus with Spotify is being able to select more quality options.
Are they both good? Yes, but I’m sorry when I like my dance music, I get tired of Apples persistent suggestions of old 90’s pop music! Not what I’m into really..
Spotify for me has a better interface and much better music selections. So I’m afraid it is still the deal breaker for many many users.
Oh and let’s not forget, Spotify can be FREE if you want.

That's why I left Apple Music in the first place. I had both overlapping for a month, and I'd switch between the two 1 week on one, 1 week on the other...

IMO Spotify had the superior experience. But there is definitely a new barrier introduced with this latest update. It feels like Apple Music as far as app nav is considered... And that's not a compliment.

I’ve yet to experience this new update so will hold my judgement.. I’m sure if I look outside the world is still spinning and everyone will get used to the new interface.

Spotify on carplay work mostly fine. It bugs out from time to time and I can't like/dislike songs on it. Can't store offline songs on my watch like I can with apple music. IOS13 should allow siri to control spotify which is good.

Apple does have more music. That's a fact. They just have a larger library. No, they don't both all have the same songs. I can find songs I listen to that are missing on either service. I do also use spotify's free service and I use songshift to keep my playlists in sync between the two platforms.

Apple pays artists more than spotify. If you care.

Plain and dull in an interface makes it simplier. Easier to use. On the flip side spotify has a lot going on, so much so that it's very cluttered and hard to navigate. That's always been one of my #1 complaint of them.

It's not my claim about sound quality, it's just a technical fact. AAC is superior to ogg vorbis. It just is. The only question is can you hear the difference? And that depends on the person and what they're listening on. I would guess most couldn't.

People just LOVE to be outraged over something, anything really. I have no problem with the redesign and will absolutely not be canceling my subscription; and I know I'm not alone. Let's be honest here, it's not like the Apple Music interface is "good" in the first place... Most convoluted POS I've ever used after Snapchat.

People whine about anything.

I like the new changes, and as always, Spotify’s algorithms are far superior to Apple Music, and free Hulu and Showtime for students? Wtf does Apple give?
Spotify til’ I die!
You are paying 15 bucks for it, no ads or bust. Too bad it has ads for Hulu. I refuse to watch ads

the only thing i hate is that every album i download ends up as a liked song now like wtf. just cuz i download an album doesn’t mean i actually like every song on it.
Isn't liking a song how to "save" it to your Spotify account.

Fully agree. It's almost like MacRumors has an article quota that they need to hit each month and they're running a few posts short. Bad content even for this site... yikes.

What about not changing things that are actually working and maybe deliver on the offline playback for Apple Watch announced almost two years ago now? The priorities are awful here.

Exactly! I like to listen to entire albums, not just a bunch of songs hobbled together in a playlist. Apple Music is the best at recommending albums. Plus, once I started liking and disliking songs, the Apple Music algorithm got better.

I tried Spotify. For my needs, it's awful. Navigation is a mess, IMO.

While I listen to the music from my iTunes library, I just find this struggle interesting, although I do agree that certain interface change can be extremely unwelcome. With that being said, I still dislike the iOS 10 music app over iOS 9 Music app.
For Apple Music, besides taste, they should seriously ramp up their search and maintain a consistent library. I have no idea why a single album needs to be chopped to two smaller albums after downloading to the iOS device. Fix this first?

I thought it was just me!

I have several albums that, even after I go in and edit ID3 tags on to hopefully correct, get split into two albums, with random tracks between the two.

I’m an Apple Music user that’s recently switched to Spotify and it’s the best decision I’ve ever made. It’s shocking and sad to see Mac Rumors write an article like this that’s so heavily biased. Fancy writing an article exploring how many people are fed up with how lousy Apple Music is?

Couldn't agree more. If someone doesn't like the Spotify UI, they're really gonna hate the convoluted mess that's Apple Music.

Also, Recently Played hasn't been "downgraded", and it makes more sense where it is now. Took me one minute to adjust. Much cleaner than before.

That said... I hit the 10,000 song limit (Tidal has the same limit) recently, so I've been entertaining the idea of using Apple Music for albums, and Spotify for playlists. Or just culling Spotify... we'll see.
