It’s no big deal. There’s a liked songs playlist that’s basically the same as the old songs view. It looks neater than before, however the layout is definitely to push people to play podcasts via Spotify more. On one hand it’s promoting Spotify’s podcast feature more on the other it’s definitely being done more for Spotify’s one business goals then its users.

Spotify still has better music recommendations than Apple Misic’s, though which seems to have stagnated and is stuck with the functionality and look of iOS 10 in 2016.

the only thing i hate is that every album i download ends up as a liked song now like wtf. just cuz i download an album doesn’t mean i actually like every song on it.

This is the first actual "reason" I've seen for someone being frustrated. The other "reasons" are simply "I'm too set in my ways to actually learn how to use an updated app".

I don't know anyone who loves Spotify's interface; everyone either dislikes it or tolerates it. Features randomly go missing, tabs move around, and there are no explanations for it. The Electron app hasn't had any meaningful changes in years, and it's terrible (especially from an accessibility standpoint, and especially on Mac OS). I like the analogy with the stereo interface. If we had a physical device in our house that kept getting rearranged without explanation, we would hate it. But somehow it's okay for Spotify to do it without giving users an option to opt out or even a change log. Whether or not you like what Apple does to their interfaces, they at least explain the changes they're making and save the really big ones for WWDC and accompanying major releases. If the Music app on Catalina is as good as I hope, I'm going to seriously consider a switch. My current setup relies on Chromecast Audios, which are now discontinued. Apple Music has a real watch app that doesn't rely on the phone, and even if I do want to continue using Chromecast devices, there's a raspberry pi bridge that turns them into Airplay streamers. I'm not ready to abandon Spotify entirely, but this is frankly a ****** way to treat users no matter how good the changes are.

Interesting. I would think that if you don't like every song on an album, yu would hand-pick the ones you *do* like. That's how most people I know use Spotify. Adding album songs to "liked songs" is actually a change I would enjoy, as I'll only ever add an album if I want to hear every song on that album or am willing to go through and delete the unwanted ones later.

So go through 10,000 downloaded songs to handpick them? How long do you think that would take? I personally download whole albums to have a complete set, but I don't want to look through 10,000 songs to find the ones I want to hear today...remember, they were previously NOT "liked" as far as having the green heart, but now they are.

Mac Rumors never post similar articles about Apple. North Korean state news is more balanced than this site at times.
What are you reading. There are far more negative crap about Apple than positive on any day of the week. It’s not as bad or as slanted as AI but it’s still tilted to the negative because there seem to be more Apple haters here than fans, so the post for their audience. It is a business you know.

Couldn't agree more. If someone doesn't like the Spotify UI, they're really gonna hate the convoluted mess that's Apple Music.

Also, Recently Played hasn't been "downgraded", and it makes more sense where it is now. Took me one minute to adjust. Much cleaner than before.

That said... I hit the 10,000 song limit (Tidal has the same limit) recently, so I've been entertaining the idea of using Apple Music for albums, and Spotify for playlists. Or just culling Spotify... we'll see.
There is a limit? Wth why. How else can I have my tracks "saved" to hear on Spotify?

Downloading actually saves it to your phone right?

I’m pretty disappointed in the update, massive Spotify fan and it’s frustrating.
The main issue is the list with all recently played music is gone and been replaced with a small section on the home page of recently played albums... can’t stand it

How do people like Deezer compared to Spotify?

I am new to Spotify, trying it out as part of a promotion, but I have so far found Deezer to offer better music recommendations for me than Spotify. Apple Music isn't an option for me because it doesn't have a Garmin App, and when I tried it on first launch I found it to be horrible with recommendations.

changing the interface (via software) is like suddenly walking up to your tried & trusted familiar stereo receiver to suddenly find all the buttons & knobs are now in weird & different places.
People just want to play their music, not hunt around & dig for "knobs & dials".
I agree with this. I use music to lock out external noises while I work. Last thing I want to do is mess around with a new interface. Not sure why this was not offered as a option for the users.

I'm betting you're in the minority in the way you use albums. I don't care about having a complete set because I don't actually own the albums I'm saving, so why would I want songs I don't like for the sake of completeness? In other circumstances I'm very much a completionist, but not here. It takes very little effort to press the like button when a good song is playing, and more effort to pull up an album and save it.

Just to be clear (because I honestly don't know), are you saying that even a complete album will now show up in the "liked songs" playlist? What I read suggested that only incomplete albums would do that, and the rest would show up in albums. You can at least delete albums that only have one or two good songs on them, but that's still a huge job and you're basically destroying part of your music library.
[doublepost=1561092024][/doublepost]I've now actually seen this, and ... it doesn't seem so bad. I wish the "liked songs" playlsit would actually act like a playlist and allow me to share it, but it seems like the natural progression after the "add to collection" button was changed to a like button. As for recently played, I didn't often use it and it's honestly in a much more logical place now.

I'm extremely critical of Spotify's interface and disagree with a lot of the functionality choices, but this seems okay to me. I'm not suggesting everyone is freaking out over nothing; some of the concerns are valid and if this change actually negatively impacts people's ability to use the app, that's a problem. However, I'm just as happy with the updated app as I was with the old version. I have YouTube music, Google Play music, Apple Music (as part of the family plan) and Spotify, and I've had experience with Amazon Music, Pandora, and iHeart Radio. I have not tried deezer, which seems like it might be an underrated alternative. For now, I still have plans to primarily use Spotify. I hope the changes in iOS 13 allow them to have a better watch app, and my mind may still change when the revamped Music app comes out, but I'm at least happy with it on mobile and with my voice assistants.

Are we going to have an article about how "some" Apple Music users are frustrated by something and they move to Spotify? I get that it's an apple rumours website, but citing a handful of people of Reddit isn't really worthy of discussion in the grand scheme of 200M+ Spotify users.

This is my gripe. I usually listen to albums, or listen to songs. I don't go into songs to listen to albums. There are albums I have saved for when I'm on a plane etc but when I'm playing my songs with shuffle, I don't want those to randomly change the mood of whatever is playing at the time. If they separated the songs and albums, it would be perfect.

CarPlay!... I’ve yet to see anyone have an issue with Spotify and CarPlay, I think it works fine...

I’ve yet to experience this new update so will hold my judgement.. I’m sure if I look outside the world is still spinning and everyone will get used to the new interface.

Hi! Here's someone that regularly faces issues with Spotify on Carplay - the interface will often refuse to load at all despite displaying songs, come up with 'null' messages etc. Apple Music is far better in the car for sure!

I'm happy with Apple Music, but this is still the same old (non-)story: $COMPANY changes $SOMETHING_IN_THEIR_PRODUCT, and $UNSPECIFIED_NUMBER_OF_CUSTOMERS complains and threatens to switch to $COMPETITOR.

People hate change, but change is needed...

the 10K limit is annoying me. I was trying to merge my iTunes to Spotify, but I'm almost at that cap already, so what's the point. Ugh

I subscribe to both Apple Music and Spotify, and I find both interfaces confusing. I wish it was easier to block certain artists or songs from showing up in any of the playlists or stations.

I have encountered the same issues with Spotify on CarPlay. It's not a deal breaker for me, but it certainly is frustrating. Usually a force close of the app does the trick most of the time.

Coming to this quite late, but stating that AM is not a viable choice as long as Apple cripples it with the requirement that you have to enable iCloud Music Library in order to do anything other than search and stream. No playlists, no library, no offline listening.

I couldn't care less about the offline listening component, that's what my local library is for. But no playlists? Come on, now.

It's not even the downloads. It's the likes.

Same here. Seems to be related to internet connection, similar to when I get in my parked car, fire up Waze and then... have to driver around the corner before everything kicks in.

Recently played is in the home screen...

Exactly. If anything, it's been upgraded.

It's not about not liking a song that's part of an album, it's more of the forced, actual "like" that now adds a green heart to EVERY song in the album. The real problem is being able to quickly find songs you actually want to hear NOW without creating hundreds of playlists or going through each album to "unlike" songs you like...now they are ALL actually "liked". Hope that makes sense. Let's just say the interface is better now, however it is and always has been horrible.

I had to most of my liked songs since I was already at 9000 when I copied from iTunes. O ONLY kept songs from 2015 forward and am trying to get into streaming. But the old school in me finds it hard not to download the song to keep.
