It should be fairly obvious from the article (and image) it refers to tattoos that are in direct contact w/ the watch.

Also, it's funny and sad watching the amount of conservative folks pretending this isn't a defect by instead bashing people with ink. I guess if you live on a farm in Kansas tattoos seem like this 'zany' thing, but in cities they're pretty much the norm. I'm almost in shock when I come across someone who doesn't have a tattoo these days. Either way, tattoo or not, it's sad to see so many Apple fans displaying vitriolic comments about other people's decision to get a tattoo. That kind of nastiness looks far worse on you than a tattoo ever would.

It is not a defect.

It is not a defect.

True, it's just a practical reality for devices like this. Just as it is a reality that certain piercings can set off metal detectors.

But still, it's not right to paint people with these tattoos as "thugs" either.

There is also the other possibility that if you have no intention of using Apple Pay, or any fitness stuff etc that relies on the sensors as well, then its a non-issue it you have tattoo's or not.

Probably not the majority, but why have a feature if your not intending to use it ?

Not really. People with wrist tattoos usually don't have nice enough jobs, so they can't afford a $400+ watch anyway. ;)

Yep. Taco Bell and the Drug paraphernalia store don't pay that great. Maybe a bar tending gig on top of those jobs would allow these folks to buy big ticket items? :D

What a huge turnoff it is for most companies or business owners to have a potential job candidate walk in all plastered with ink. Automatic NO OFEER. Sorry.

It's like, yeah, go ahead and "express yourself" all you want. Just be prepared to deal with the consequences. ;)

Stereotype much? I would agree that people may restrict their employment prospects (due to external prejudice) with facial and hand tattoos, but anything that can be covered by a suit is just fine.

My parents have tattoos and in retirement own several homes, cottage, and still brings in a 6 figure salary off of investments and pension.

My wife and I both have wrist tattoos and own a 3500 square foot home, each make 6 figures a year, and are university educated (different field my father, so no, not old money). And we would have no issue with any of our boys or girls getting tattoos. We are more concerned that they finish their education and stay healthy and happy. And no, neither of us work at/for drug paraphernalia stores (or for that matter smoke, drink, or use drugs) or taco bell. We both have professional careers.

Tattoos are personal taste, much like tanning, hair coloring, breast implants, piercings, etc. Different strokes for different folks.

I believe Apple knew that tattoos were an issue but did not want to disclose this info as it may have impacted Apple Watch sales or even shed bad light on it.

Now they have Apple Watch owners disappointed & people like you making excuses for a company is ridiculous and only empowers them to keep doing bad things.

I bet Apple will address this on the next version & if not, I guess we can thank narcissistic people like you who keep defending bad corporate behavior.

Bwahahahahaha, "bad corporate behavior"
Apple didn't have some conspiracy any more than Samsung and Motorola have with their watches not working on tattood wrists.

Hand tats are awful and if you're dumb enough to get one, deal with the consequences... Yeesh

Next they'll have "Smart Rings" that don't work with imbeciles who have ring tats... "OMG, OMG, OMG, OMG, I'm hipster trash that got a ring tat and that new APPEEEL GADGET MUUUST WORK or I'm gonna cry foul!!!"

Grow up

P.S. I'm "narcissistic" for not using my body as a billboard to project my "artistic side" for EVERYONE to see, whether they want to or not.... BWAHAHAHA, please look up the definition of "narcissistic"

Once a while it helps to read the poster's history and then you know if it is worth replying or not. He doesn't reply to these kind of questions, he has his own reasons for that :) .
