I love that Apple seems to think that everything is perfect and they really don't have to test their products.

For the profit they make, they can afford to test hardware, software, and third party apps. They're just so big since iPhone arrived that they don't see the problems--or they don't pay attention to the problems.

I literally just ordered this.
is this the model they are talking about? (it doesn't say "PD" in the title). But it has input/output USBC ports.
You think I should return without even opening it or try
The description for yours says "USB-C (Input Only)". Doesn't look like yours will charge your phone via the USB-C port.

Success does require the user to use a wee bit of common sense to purchase a power bank that says its USB-C connector can also be used for charging.

Apple has no way to test every power bank on the market ...

I ordered the 15 Pro Max but I might cancel it, if more problems arise.
Mine comes soon. If it does have a significant overheating problem I'm returning it, but I'll wait and see. I don't yet know if people are exaggerating or whether it is maybe a problem with some units but not with others. For the price I am expecting it to be pretty much perfect.

I don’t think USB-C iPads can charge other devices?
iPads can be used as “power banks” to charge iPhones. I believe it was a feature of iPadOS 15?. Don’t quote me on this.

But it must be an iPad with a USB-C port, and, at the time, use a USB-C to lightning cable.

But what happens if your iPhone is more fully charged than the power bank and you connect them (out of interest)?

Anker with 2 of 4 lights (assume 50% charged) is charging 89% charged iPhone.

I wonder if this effects some chargers, too. I have an Anker 525 (the thing that is a small power strip with 3 AC plugs on the back and 2 usba 2 usbc on the front) and my 15pro would keep chiming through the night when plugged into it via usbc, as if it kept disconnecting and reconnecting. I had to switch to something else. The phone hasn't had issues with any other charger.

Lots of issues seem to be popping up with USB-C lately. Wonder how many more stores we're going to see about USB-C not working correctly for whatever given function. Superior connector my ***. Maybe the EU should've kept their noses out of it instead of mandating this crap.
The problem isn’t the connector, it’s the half-baked specification.

And therein lies the problem. People think USB-C is standardized...and they are both right and wrong about that. The shape of the plug...yes, that's standardized. The capabilities of that cable...not even close. I have multiple USB-C cables in my house and I'm pretty sure each and every one of them has different specs and what works and what doesn't. If people want "standardized" cables...USB-C definitely isn't that.

The EU wanted to throw its power-hungry weight around and it's leaving us with problem after problem now. The EU did what governments do best: take something that worked just fine...and break it. It really seems like with the more things the EU forces...the more the quality drops. This is what happens when people who don't understand technology try to regulate it. Things might be different if they actually had to fully understand the things they want to exert their power over instead of just throw their weight around because they like making rules and don't know what else to do.

Spot on.

It’s like the cookie prompts all over again 🤦🏾‍♂️

USB is a blessing and curse. Hence why intel has thunderbolt to give the user guaranteed features. Otherwise, it’s a crap shoot. And even with thunderbolt, the NVM version affects compatibility with older devices.
