You could download the app and check cpu usage.

this morning my iPhone 7 didnt get hot at all and the battery was still 90% around noon. In the afternoon I did not touch it for 4-5h and the battery went down 50%.

really strange behaviour…

Sometimes shortly after updating the OS, there will be battery drain issues. Sometimes the phone is doing a lot of things in the background and that will cause battery drainage for a couple of days.

After 14.6 I certainly have had excessive battery draining on my 12 Mini. As I mentioned in another post, I usually finish the day at around 70% or more. Have been down in the 30's for the past couple of days or so after the 14.6 update.

Hopefully this is just a temporary situation and/or an easy fix will take care of it.

i am def one of these users. in 2 hours with no apps open my iPhone Pro 12 is down 20%. Battery capacity is 98%, and I use the apple's wireless charging device with optimized charging enabled. ever since downloading 14.6 my phone has gone from lasting a full day on a single charge to needing to be plugged in at 6 or 7pm or otherwise being fully depleted for the rest of the day.

i shut down all apps last night on 31% and in 2 hours with no apps running and barely any usage (i was using my ipad pro instead) I was down toe 18%. Notes was listed as the biggest source of battery drain, and notes wasn't even open!

something's up with 14.6.

Following up on my last post. Been watching my battery over the past few days and it was getting worse. Today, as I type this, 15:30 eastern, my battery low power mode turned on. It was at 30%. Wallet was listed as using 25% of the battery, lol. I rebooted and will see if that does anything, but I've done that a few times now over the past week. Something is definitely wrong here.

This is on an 11 Pro.

I do wish Apple would release an update-fix for this. The drain is so erratic and baffling. I do have 5 nights leaving it off the charger as I sleep and will wake up to 98- even 100%. (It's um..better than before - this was after seeing Mail.app, my home alarm system app running 24/7 draining the battery down overnight to 78-82%)

But then I get 2 nights a week where I'll wake up to 85-89% in a shorter period of time, like this morning. Nothing horrific, like I said the behavior is just odd!

The "Find My..." app was the only thing running. It also does appear my phone rebooted at some point since FaceID failed again, I had to enter my pin. No idea why that keeps happening.

My 11 pro battery is currently at <20% today since 6:30am and I've barely used it. Its been like this since the 14.6 update. Not sure whats going on but it used to be >50% normally at 10pm.

I'm not having any battery issues on my 12 Pro Max. I'm a heavy user, and after 8 months, it's at 100% battery health. I use an Anker fast charger, and charge to 100%. I don't have battery optimization enabled.

I was just about to create a post asking about this, as my iPhone 12 Pro from mid March has gone from 100% to say 70% in less than 2 hours, no apps open, location services turned off or while only using the app. phone is face down. only had to charge it every couple days when i original got it, now its excessively draining.

This is indeed annoying. I have an XR on which the battery life has been quite good. Since 14.6 it sucks. This morning when I first picked up my phone it was at 100%. I only used it to listen to a podcast for 30 minutes while cycling. No music. Nothing else. No other usage. Now, at 10:20 AM it's already down to less than 50%. The main culprit seems to be Music. I have Background App Refresh and Automatic Downloads both turned OFF for Music. I have Sync Library turned ON, but if you turn that OFF, what's the point of having an Apple Music subscription?

This is the best that I’ve seen for my battery and I am on 14.1. I actually wanted to upgrade to 14.6, to start using some of the features I’m missing, but I’m holding off a litter longer.

I'm waiting for urgent correction from Apple. In the past, on a trip, the battery endured all day photographing and filming. Sunday I had to charge my iPhone at lunchtime! I haven't done this since iPhone 7 Plus.

Following the release of iOS and iPadOS 14.6 last week, some users have taken to social media and online forums to note that their devices have been experiencing excessive battery drain since installing the software updates.

The Apple Support Community and MacRumors forums are riddled with posts from users stating their device now drains faster following the update. One user on the Apple support forums notes their experience with their iPhone 11 Pro and Apple Smart Cover draining faster than normal following the update:
It is worth noting that many factors contribute to a device's battery life, including its battery health. Users with degraded batteries can expect shorter battery life. According to the forums, however, the issue seems to be impacting all devices, regardless of specific battery health.

On the MacRumors forums, one user notes that their iPhone 12 Pro not only drained faster than normal but also began to overheat while simply browsing Safari. An accompanying post recalls a similar experience with an iPhone 12 mini:
With iOS 14.5, Apple introduced a new battery health recalibration feature for iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max. The new feature allows the system to recalibrate the battery health of the device in order to address possibly inaccurate battery health readings. Following the update released last month, users have noticed that their iPhone 11 battery health has changed following the recalibration process.

After any iOS update, users can expect normal battery drain in the days following due to the system reindexing Spotlight and conducting other housekeeping tasks. However, iOS 14.6 was released more than a week ago, and users continue to note the battery drain on their devices. If the issue is indeed software related, Apple may decide to address it in a subsequent update to iOS 14.6 or provide a patch in iOS 14.7, currently in beta testing.

Another article said it’s the podcast app causing it after the update and said to delete it. This is bs I thought apple was all about a green earth and stopping global warming. They pulled this bs with older devices and got sued for it. Been a month now if this **** keeps going on I’m returning this pos iPhone 12 max pile of junk.

I don't have this app. My iPhone doesn't heat up either. It actually heated up only once, right after the iOS 14.6 update and browsing this forum. It never happened again. But I realize that he's spending more battery for no reason. Let's say the device is consuming twice as much battery.

So your phone is using twice as much battery? I hardly use my phone and it’s dying never getting a iPhone again after this. Before my battery lasted a week now it’s 2 days.

Our older iPhone 7's (IOS 14.6) with a 90% charge number are draining the battery very quickly and get hot. So far 5 hours the longest before both drain to 10%. Our Apple watches 4 and 5 have the same problem. Started about a week ago. Called Apple Technical Support. They ran tests and suggested some different settings. Everything passed their tests. No difference in results. From our troubleshooting, points right at the IOS update. More specific IOS battery management software (system Battery). They messed with the Battery software for iPhone 11 and pretty sure messed it up for many. Hopefully they can get it fixed with an update.

Hm, the last 2 days I have noticed the battery issue is not as excessive. right now the phone has been off the charger for at least 2 hours and still at 100% before, it would already be at around 80% or lower. this is still on 14.6 with no changes or modifications. anyone seeing any changes to their battery drain? I'm wondering if there was a silent fix or something from Apple?

I havent monitored the iPad but the iPhone isnt heating up either.

Did somebody check the cpu usage on their device?
I have an iphone 7 which has constant cpu usage between 80-100%.
as soon as I switch airplane mode on it goes down to 5-10%. Then when I turn wifi on in airplane mode, bang back to 100%. Or when I turn airplane mode off also back to 100%

must be a bug since 14.6

i‘m on 14.7 beta 2
iPhone 11 on 14.0.1 here. Such similar issue happens with me. Phone would become warmer than usual whole browsing on safari. And it won’t cool down unless I turn on airplane mode. These bugs plaguing the iPhones are certainly not expected on this expensive devices.

For me the solution has been using orher broswers such as Edge and Duckduck go that block the trackers, specially in some sites like these forums, my phone used to get quite warm after a few minutes of just browsing, but using those browsers that have stronger tracker prevention I have regained the trust of my iPhone not getting hot by doing menial stuff. Safari is a little poor to prevent abusive trackers from running like crazy.
