Seriously though, the battery seems fine on my new iPad Pro, but I have noticed it drops at a much faster rate than normal when I'm browsing around MacRumors. Why is this? I'm not the only one experiencing this issue... https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/m1-ipad-pro-11-battery-life.2298261/
Don't think this is the issue, how come when im browsing Mac rumours on my iPad, battery life is fine, iOS has been hot garbage for battery life ever since 14.5.

14.4 was the last time I'd be able to hit 10 hours usage, now I'm down a good 3-4 hours when it comes to battery life and even more on 14.7 🤦‍♂️ it's alright apple, keep releasing your Apple Card family subscription and podcast subscriptions, maybe one day you'll give us great battery life like we use to have on 14.4.

I thought I was the only one experiencing this. That's why I forced to update to beta 14.7 because of this.
Did this help ?
And have you run into any other issues?

I have gone from ending the day at over 50% to not making it to 5pm (I spend a lot of time using the podcasts app, and I think I've identified that app as the culprit - it definitely has a ton of other bugs, and is much slower than it used to be.)

Glad I stayed on my XR. Was going to go 12 Pro last month, but decided I love my battery life and didn't want to chance it.
Even after upgrade, the XR battery life is the best on any device I've ever owned.

Very excessive drain for me.

I'm using XS Max with Smart battery Case. Even with WIFI, Bluetooth and 4G switched off over night with Low Power mode, it completely drained the case and took my battery down to 75%.

That's utterly ridiculous.

In the two years I've had the phone, I've never seen drain like this. My Battery performance is 89%. Still pretty reasonable I would have thought.

As I type this My phone is quite hot to the touch. Just normal web browsing and I’ve lost 10% in 30 or so minutes. No bueno.

edit - 12 Pro Max on 14.6
This was the issue I had on Fri. (14.6, 12 Pro Max).
Left the house with 100% battery, just a few errands...one was Lowes. I simply surfed the darn Lowes site to locate items in stock, and the aisle it was it. Checked mail in the car. 35-45 min. max with this phone and it was running pretty warm, battery already 79, 76%. Eh.

(I did have a notification about 3 weeks ago on my phone, PRE-14.6 "iPhone needs to cool down." That was a first! It was a pretty warm day in Philly area, mid 80s.... not blazing hot. I've had older iPhones that never gave me that notification even with 95-100º days)

Having a lot of unusual --- and honestly unpleasant "firsts" with the iPhone 12

Seeing this on my XR. I had vaguely noticed that on 14.5 I wasn’t quite making it to the end of the day like usual.

14.6 made Podcasts basically unusable, and probably because whatever it’s doing trying to load and update my large library is using all kinds of CPU and RAM I’m seeing all the battery drain and heat issues. Even if I do get it loaded and playing in the background and don’t touch it or turn on the screen, battery lasts about 2 hours.

I went to 14.7 beta. Podcasts are slightly more predictable (still takes minutes to load), battery seems very slightly better, but it’s a mess.

I’ve had a 3GS, a 4, a 6 (with a battery replacement late in life) and this XR, and this is totally the worst it’s ever been.

Following the release of iOS and iPadOS 14.6 last week, some users have taken to social media and online forums to note that their devices have been experiencing excessive battery drain since installing the software updates.

14.6-on-iPhone-12-feature.jpg

The Apple Support Community and MacRumors forums are riddled with posts from users stating their device now drains faster following the update. One user on the Apple support forums notes their experience with their iPhone 11 Pro and Apple Smart Cover draining faster than normal following the update:
It is worth noting that many factors contribute to a device's battery life, including its battery health. Users with degraded batteries can expect shorter battery life. According to the forums, however, the issue seems to be impacting all devices, regardless of specific battery health.

On the MacRumors forums, one user notes that their iPhone 12 Pro not only drained faster than normal but also began to overheat while simply browsing Safari. An accompanying post recalls a similar experience with an iPhone 12 mini:
With iOS 14.5, Apple introduced a new battery health recalibration feature for iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max. The new feature allows the system to recalibrate the battery health of the device in order to address possibly inaccurate battery health readings. Following the update released last month, users have noticed that their iPhone 11 battery health has changed following the recalibration process.

After any iOS update, users can expect normal battery drain in the days following due to the system reindexing Spotlight and conducting other housekeeping tasks. However, iOS 14.6 was released more than a week ago, and users continue to note the battery drain on their devices. If the issue is indeed software related, Apple may decide to address it in a subsequent update to iOS 14.6 or provide a patch in iOS 14.7, currently in beta testing.

yep. That’s me. 😣 My battery on the iPhone 12max pro is dead well before midnight. Used To last overnight!

Also, this my iPad Pro. 44% right now and dropping - it has been plugged in ALL DAY, no apps have been running at all today, the screen has been on since this morning.
(Last charged to 100% Yesterday)

What is happening!?!😒

*Back up to 44% since I turned off the screen, still plugged in.

It appears to be something with Mail.app. Yesterday I kept having to plug my phone in and I couldn’t understand why. I first got a 20% warning at 5pm which is highly unusual for my Xs Max, especially since I had low power mode on all day. Even with heavy YouTube usage I don’t expect to see this until maybe 3-5 hours after that. I had to plug my phone into a fast-charger 4 times before bed when I hit 8% before plugging in. That’s when I checked the Battery screen in settings and saw Mail had been responsible for 40% of my battery usage throughout the day even though it was only open for 14mins and doing background activity for 40. Safari didn’t even use half that when used for an hour and a half.
I noticed Mail was running CONSTANTLY after I installed 14.6 last week, posted here to see if anyone was having this issue

In settings I toggled Fetch and Push on and then off, did a hard reboot.
That mail issue seemed to stop for me.

I do get "Home and Lock screen" usage all the time, even with the phone screen off. Random numbers...varies from 1 min to 59min in one hour. It's just bizarre!

It was mostly sarcasm. I was just pointing out that visiting MacRumors can apparently drain the battery at a much faster rate for some people compared to when visiting other sites.

I just did another test. I went to browse Amazon.com for 30 minutes. The battery drained 2%. Then I went to browse the MR forums for another 30 minutes. The battery drained 12% and my iPad was getting warm. 12%! At one point, there was a spinner icon in the status bar that didn't go away until I put Safari in the background or closed the MR tab.

I was in no way saying this is the issue. Like with everything else, experiences vary...some have this issue, some don't. Just like I don't seem to have any battery drain issues with iOS 14.6 itself, but I do believe it exists for others.

I actually just terminated Mail.app from multitasking last night and have been using my iPhone and Mail like normal today. No problems. It’s currently 5pm and I’m at 58% which is actually better than normal.

I'm usually one of the ones that says "this happens every update...just give it a few days... *facepalm*." However, with 14.6, I did notice it when I go off of wifi and into 5g territory only, my phone was heating up excessively/out of normal. Wonder if there's something with the 5g modem that got affected that's causing the drain because when I got back home on wifi all was good again.
I think you might be right. Same thing is happening to me, and I also noticed that this started happening with iOS 14.5. I did not have 5G on my 12 Pro Max since I use dual SIM and until iOS 14.5 it was not possible. I was installing betas of 14.5 since I wanted to jump on 5G bandwagon ASAP and up until 14.5 my peak battery capacity was 100% and started dropping by 1% after every beta or two releases of 14.5. The battery health drop trend seems to have continued with 14.6 and down to 93% now. I've also started noticing that the phone started heating up whenever on 5G and mainly outside of home or work where I have WiFi. Hope Apple figures out what's causing it and patches in future releases. Well, if it drops to 80% by the time my 12 Pro Max is a year old, I'll get them to swap the battery. I also have AC+ so maybe I'll be able to do this up to 2 years.
