It's the autofocus lens for the camera... is there a rattle from somewhere else?

Definitely not the lens. It's the lock button without a doubt. I can press lightly on it, almost to the point of engaging it, and the rattle stops. It's just a total annoyance to have to hear that every time I bring the phone up to my ear.

that's the exact issue i'm having. The constant sound makes the phone feel like a cheap piece of equipment... which it isn't.

Just got back. The Genius happily swapped my phone. The new one seems perfect thus far.

wait. my power button moves side to side here too. you guys think they'll replace it..?

checked my brothers. doesnt move side to side. the lock button doesnt move side to side when i shake the phone but i can move it side to side with my finger.

any chance of getting it replaced?

You swapped it for the rattling sound? Was the new iPhone brand new and sealed up in a retail box?

Yes I swapped it for the rattling. It is a brand new phone, but it's not in the retail box. It's in a black plastic box as is discussed in numerous other threads on this site. Search for it and you'll read all about it.

I didn't realize mine rattled - it just seemed like it was sticking- but now if I gently bang the phone to my palm GENTLY - then I do hear a rattle!!!! Sob!!! Oh well- I do not feel like doing return at this point bug maybe I will before July 23- by the way how long do we have for warranty repair/ swap ?

It seems like my screen is more yellow or something compared to my friends 16gig, but I don't want to risk trading in my phone to get something worse. Because right now, everything else is perfect. No rattle!

Apple replaced my phone for this issue. I now have a different sounding rattle coming from the camera area but I think this is normal.

one of my volume buttons rattles and inside the camera which i'm convinced it's not an issue... i have a phone that works and no yellow tint or dead pixel. I hate to exchange this and get a worse one :(

This. There's something moving around in mine, but that is the ONLY problem (if it even is a problem) that I've noticed really.

I do have one other issue, but I think it's a fluke. When I'm in a 3G area for a short amount of time, apps that use Internet say no Internet connection. I'll go to settings, click on network, my phone freezes, & I have to reset it. It has only happened twice since I got it on the 24th. I never have this problem with WiFi, & I never had this with the 3G/3GS.

Anyway, like the previous guy/gal stated: there's nothing terribly wrong with my phone. Why run the risk replacing it & getting an even worse problem?

I hear a slight rattle if i drop my phone onto a soft surface like my bed. None of my buttons are loose, so i suppose its the camera lens. Doesnt make any noise any other time. I wouldn't return it over that.

My phone doesnt rattle but my bumper rattles like crazy. I could probably amuse babies with it. Im thinking about trying to exchange it but i dont have the package anymore.

I'm assuming that you had to hand over the original retail box as part of the exchange too right? Or did they just swap phones and let you keep everything else?

I went to the apple store yesterday to check out every iPhone 4 display model. About 75% of them had loose home buttons (you can wiggle them side to side). About 25% had loose power buttons (wiggle side to side). My power button wiggles/rattles but everything else on the phone is almost perfect. This is my third phone and it just seems I'm trading in one problem for another so I'm just going to keep it.

The demo phones are no surprise to have loose this or that, but 3 brand new ones with issues? And you're happy with with an imperfect phone just because its an iphone:confused::rolleyes:

If you can't get an iphone with no rattles or loose bottons with no build quality issues of any kind, why do you want one? Are you related to the Panda Bear "I want an iphone 4"

Maybe its time to re-evaluate this iphone

I didn't even bring my packaging and cables. They just swapped the phone itself.

I also had a loose bumper. I wanted to return it, but they talked me into swapping it for another one and giving it a try.

Another update: I thought everyone was mistaking the lock button rattle for a camera lens rattle, but I can confirm they do both exist and are two different things.

My old phone definitely had the lock button rattle and my new one does not. It makes NO noise when you move it around. However, when you tap on the back of the new phone near the camera, you can hear a slight rattle. I thought this was the lock button on my old phone, but I guess it was the same lens noise.

Conclusion: the lock button rattle is not normal, but the lens rattle is.

What did you guys say to get this replaced? It seems a little bit stingy to ask them for a replacement for a slightly loose button. P.S. mine has this issue as well, but i didn't think they would actually replace it. :apple:

Mine rattles. I probably wouldn't make an issue about it, but I've also got a loose home button, and a tiny gap between the glass and steel at the top of the phone...just big enough to stick a piece of paper in, and I know it's going to get dust/sand in there.

tiny rattle - grounds for return?

i just noticed my phone has a tiny rattle in it. ive had it since launch, havent dropped it - phone is immaculate - sounds like rattle is by headphone jack. kinda pissed about it. would apple exchange it?

Took my iP4 in to the Irvine Spectrum Apple Store and the genius told me that some iPhones do that and I should keep my case on it. She also made sure to get it noted on my account that I took it in for this issue as well as the proximity sensor issue.

She didnt offer to replace it or you didn't ask?

Mine has a slight rattle with the sleep wake button but if I were to gently push it to one side, it'll stay in place and won't rattle. That is, until I press the button again.. The rest of the phone is perfect so I'm not going to risk trading it in for a different (possibly worse) problem.
