And in your case you can't fix rudeness.

It would be nice if you for once did contribute here, and not only told anyone that the 15 inch is "badboy" and 13 inch is crap.. I think people have noticed you have a 15 inch by now and love it. I have a 15 inch too and it's great machine, so is the 13 inch.

As for the threadstarters mbp, the screen seems to function, but the glass is broken. I don't know, but it might be possible to replace or remove the glass if you're a bit handy, making the computer usable again.

Not to all of us.

In the early days of the Mac, it was common to name your Macs.

So if I call my MBP15 "George", "Big Mama" or "Hot Stuff" no one would think that was odd.

I guess times have changed.

Naming a computer is fine, I guess (I've never done that), but most people wouldn't refer to their computer by its nickname in a public forum, e.g. "George crashed today".

LOL....that would be funny as h3ll...

"Christina is overheating!!"

"Pedro is always beach-balling."

"I just spilled coffee all over Tina!"

"I can't turn Tiffany on.... :( "

Just get a new one, because if you repair it you have more changes for something to go wrong & you'll be paying pretty much half of one.

i agree with ya completely man and decided a day or so ago i was just going to get a new one. just trying to decide on what size....13, 15 or 17.

i watch tons of movies, so the 17 is pretty much perfect, but i don't even use 1/3 of the power in a 17....so i was thinking 13 for cost savings and super portablility. not really into a 15....for some reason it just doesn't sit well with me.

hey, anyone here have a 13 and watch movies on it a lot? what are your thoughts....is it a pain in the rear and do you find yourself wishing you had a larger screen?

(and no i don't want to purchase a seperate monitor to plug it into......just 100% laptop baby!)

Recently, I went on a trip to Amsterdam. The seat area was super small. However, the 13" just fit on the tray table, and I was able to watch around 5+ hours of video (TV Shows, etc.) just fine on it. Did not wish for a larger screen at all. When you are sitting close to it, a 13" screen is plenty big :). I wouldn't trade my 13" for the world.

I have the 13" and i watch hulu pretty much every day (mostly in bed) and i found fast that i wanted a bigger screen so i bought an external... since you dont want to do that id suggest the 15 or 17 if you have the cash. Although the 13 works fine for watching movies, i just had the cash and wanted a moster screen, so i got a cheap dell.

i take care of my things, but accidents happen.

however, in your case, you can't fix stupid.

Good one, Tater Salad...

I can't see why you're ready to dump a 2 year old machine that can be fixed with a few hundred bucks, some screwdrivers, and 2 hours of your time, but then again, you can't fix stupid, eh?

because i have a great job and the money to always get the latest and greatest. :D

I was preparing an eBay listing for my 2.4 C2D 17-inch 1920 x 1200 4GB RAM 10.6.1

PM me if your interested in $1550 perfect condition.

You lucky bastard! If I ever heard *the* perfect excuse to get a new MBP this is it!

Note: I'm just pointing out the silver lining here.
yeah - retarded mistakes would rank high on that list. sucks, man. i say replace the screen with a part and DiY - ain't too bad (AND you get to be tech l337 in the process), i figure but if you're flossing that "have a great job and the money to always get the latest and greatest,".........why are you even asking if you "need" to get a new one? paradoxical if you ask me.

I have the 13" and watch movies all the time its pretty much my tv and I have in issues. I am sure I would feel different if it was sitting next to a 17" in the store. But home on its own its wonderful I also carry mine to different rooms a lot, so that make it even better for me.

I had a 13" and sold it after 3 months. The screen was just too small for me (working watching movies or playing games). I went with the 15" 2.8 refurb uMBP with the expresscard slot. The 2.4 is only $1299 and your could probably get $500-$700 of that for the broken system.

I'd stick with the 15". For me the 17, even as a refurb is just too big and expensive (even when you can afford it, the value just isn't there).

Cheers,

I've had the 13" for a year now and decided to go with an external monitor, dual monitoring. Makes computing more fun.

why would he get it for free?

the logic is just not there

idk how it works in the US, but our laws state that you can't false advertise. MagSafe is advertised to not pull your computer when someone trips over it or what-not. He accidentally pulled the cord and the computer broke because of it. Apple advertise that with MagSafe it doesn't happen. That sir, is my logic.

Wouldn't insurance cover that, When my macbook pro hinge broke by manufactor defalt and apple blamed it on me i used my insurance and filed it as accidental damage, payed 128 bucks and they replaced the screen or just do a old for new or a new for new i dunno.

so let me get this straight.....

because there is one instance that you know of out of millions of apple laptops sold where the magsafe (while still connects via a magnet on the computer in question) had in instance where it moved the computer is grounds for false advertising?

i dont think so

maybe if it was a widescale issue you could have a case for misadvertising but it isnt

thanks man, but no, i take full blame for it. appreciate the thoughts and ideas though!

it would have disengaged had he kicked it hard enough at a parallel angle to the cord but he might have kicked it at an angle which would not have allowed it to pull free properly. besides, he had ear buds on the keyboard....warranty doesn't cover that sort of thing.
