I'm really starting to get into the Marathon games (which are now pretty much free software). From what I've played so far, they are far deeper and more immersive / intelligent experiences than Doom or Quake with just as dedicated a community following (albeit a smaller one at that), and will even run great on the lowest G3. But of course, one would expect nothing less from the predecessors of the first Halo entries, the original of which is still one of the most matured and well-designed FPS titles I've seen to date.

Here's a particularly good piece:

And here's a remix of said piece by the game's community:

And now here's a mashup of the above remix with Halo's Covenant Dance, which is also a great piece:

My compliments to Bungie and Marathon's community on these. :)

This brings back great memories from 1999 when I bought my PMG3, and the store threw in the Bungie Action Sack for Mac, which included the first 2 Marathon games.

This is the song that accompanied me through the last days, weeks, months, years ...
I don't get tired to listen and listen again and again and again.
And it's followed by this one ...

Wouldn't this thread get much more attention if it were in the general or music forums? Is there any particular reason why it's in the PowerPC forum?

I'm interested to see more posts in here as I love discovering new music that I may never have come across otherwise 😊

@Six Mac Abs Mostly because, as clearly established in a recent thread, everyone here tends to enjoy each other's company much more-so than that of people in other forums, which usually carry a very different, typically more irritable air than here.

I'm not one to speak for anyone, but I personally saw this as a little more of a fun discussion point than anything else, in case someone sees a piece that they know or like, and wish to comment on it in response. :)

Ok fair enough. Yes, I see the point of the thread you linked to, too. So not only have I stumbled across a topic which I hope I'll get much enjoyment out of, but I've also discovered the forum where all the cool people on MR hang out 😁.

Well ... that's subjective. I'm quite sure the Politics, Religion, and Social Issues forum people think they're pretty cool too, even though they live in an echo chamber. 🤣

However, I for one am in full agreement that this place is where all the real cool folks hang out ...

You know, where you aren't pressured into buying a new $1,000 fashion statement cellphone every succeeding 12 months.

Ice cool.

Late to the Sleaford Mods fan club I will admit, but absolutely luv luv luv this track, amazing that two blokes almost as old as me can make music this good and relevant in 2020. "European Poos are more deadly than the Alien Mum it's true...." If you have any idea what they are talking about you have one on me.

@Dronecatcher I see a willfully enslaved society.

Nice beat, though.

Well, this didn't seem to be a very popular thread ...

Regardless, I had a feeling some of you guys might like this one, so I'll share; I am rapidly coming to appreciate the Eurodance genre, or currently the 90's / millennium flavor:

Of course there are many others that may or may not have been done to a finer degree, but it is a rather good mix to play while working on things, in my opinion.

There's also a part 2, if anyone is interested.

I need to listen to more Eurodance, I really enjoy it but I don't get enough of a chance to listen.

I'll post a song that I've really enjoyed (sounds amazing with good headphones):

Mystery UK collective SAULT have released TWO albums in 2020, both to immense critical acclaim, yet they remain entirely anonymous. Wildfires is my favorite track off the new album:

Since this thread came back up, I thought I'd say that I discovered the Clancy Brothers a few months ago and I really like them. I especially like their first album.

On the note of folk music, I also like The Weavers and the Kingston Trio.

There aren't many bands brave enough to put out a video like that. Always loved Suede, they really stood out from the rest of the Britpop in the 90s, not that there was anything wrong with Oasis, Blur, Elastica et al...Suede were different.
edit: Speaking of Elastica, Dave Grohl and Greg Kurstin (among other things he produced and co wrote Adele's Hello) are doing a different song by a Jewish artist for everyday of Hanukkah this year. They are all excellent, but the wife (who is Jewish) and I really feel like they hit it out of the park with Connection by Elastica.

Suede keep on getting better...a rarity in bands with such a long lifespan.
