Are you listening Nintendo? Bring the classic Marios, Donkey Kong, RC Pro AM, etc!
Nintendo uses their incredible IP list to help sell consoles. Sega has no such plan. And I'd rather play Nintendo games on a Nintendo console, but some unresponsive touchscreen.

It's nice to the Apple TV is finally picking up pace with new apps and games for it. It's been a fairly slow first couple of months but just last few weeks there's been Duck Tales, Giana Sisters and now Sonic.

Yeah that's right! Stuff that we played like 20 years ago!

I saw this on the App Store last night, right after I bought a Nimbus controller earlier in the day. I'm upset there's no controller support!

Really?

How is the control with the remote? I was tempted to buy a new Apple TV but would had to be forced to use the remote.

No controller support kills this.

There is controller support. I don't know why it's not shown in the App Store but the Nimbus works fine.

I am a Sonic fanboy, but must say that all Sonic releases on touch displays (and likely this) are terrible.

If only Nintendo would get with the program and give us the original Mario. That's all I want for Christmas. Mario cart from Nintendo 64 wouldn't be bad either

If you were really a Sonic fanboy you'd know this is the definitive version of the game.
why is this the definitive version? I remember when it first came out for iOS I played it on a friends phone and the speed / movement didn't feel quite right.

I have it on an emulator so for me $3 its a lot for this, it should be a $0.99 game. I have paid $3 for GTA and SF and others on iOS , so for me I will wait on a future sale on it.

Great game, although I highly recommend Sonic the Hedgehog 2. It's just more amazing than the first one. So if you want to spend on one game from the series, just wait until the second one is available on tvOS.

One of my favorite games from my Sega Genisis days! I am getting this first chance I get

Cool! Technology has gone up tremendously! Back in the early 90's it took Commodore 500 generations to come up with an Amiga that could run these games. Now 25 years later it took Apple just 4 generations to built a TV that can run these exact same games!
Welcome to 2016, pal :D

Happy for the news, but...

needs.controller.support.

Drudgingly played through level 1 and quit. I don't get it. MFi controller is supported on the iOS versions. This should have been a relatively painless process. Oh well, will wait till it gets updated.

Oh wow! Kinda want to go up in the attic and dig up my old Dreamcast. Actually, going to Best Buy to get the latest Apple TV sounds better. ;) Yes. Just for this game.

I don't know about this guys. I think the proper way to honor retro video games is through Miitomo.

</sarcasm>
Nintendo has a hardware line to keep alive. SEGA failed in the hardware department and is now nothing more than a glorified third-party dev. So it's completely different scenarios between the two companies.

And I don't see anything about Miitomo trying to pretend to be retro.

I'm surprised the Apple TV 4 is fast enough to run this without a A8X or A9 processor. Doesn't run too well on my iPhone 4S, and the TV screen is way bigger.

This game runs just fine on devices with the A5 chip. No frame rate stutters whatsoever.

Now we need SuperMario Brothers, Star Wars NES or SNES and Tomb Raider as many as they can port. Best news about the AppleTV I have heard since it came out.
