I have no interest in Alexa in my house, anywhere. I do have a Sonos system with a PlayBar and 2xPlay:1, but they won't support Airplay 2. I do think my Homepod sounds much better than my Play:1, and I use the Siri integration all the time. Having both, I don't have any plans to purchase newer Sonos speakers just to support Airplay2, would rather spend the money on another Homepod for stereo. Different strokes for different folks I guess.

Or if you previously invested in Sonos and waited for the One instead of going with the HomePod, this is great news! I'm actually taking delivery of a Sonos One today as an early birthday present. Super glad to learn that grouping a One with legacy speakers means AirPlay 2 is basically extended to those speakers (for control through the One).

So you can say "Hey Siri" to a Sonos Play:One and add items to your calendar, control homekit devices, set reminders, timers, alarms?

This might work if you aren't using them for a HT setup like I am, but I would have to get rid of my two Play:1's and buy two Sonos:One speakers for the stereo pair.

I do have my Play:1 integration in iOS/macOS since years.

"AirConnect" or "AirSonos" is the way to go.
And I still need to/going to use it because Sonos didnt give Airplay2 to Play:1.

Really. I had so many Sonos devices. But everyone here who thinks Sonos is doing fine could be disappointed some day.

This company lacks in understanding their customers so badly.

Edit: dont believe me? take a look in their forums ... full of raging customers.

Anyone actually getting these to show up as Airplay2 devices? I have a pair of play:5 and I can Airplay to them, but they are behaving like Airplay1 devices.

That is to say they are not showing up in the HomeApp, and they are not showing up next to my HomePods with the 'what's playing' line. They show up when you hit the old audio destination button (triangle in the concentric circles). Same behavior on OS X and iOS

No Apple Music means no interest for me.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by 'no Apple Music' - did you read the article? Apple Music is supported:

This marks the first time Sonos speakers have supported AirPlay in general, enabling users to easily stream audio from iTunes on Mac, and virtually any app for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch, including Apple Music, YouTube, Spotify, Hulu, Pandora, and Netflix, to compatible Sonos speakers over Wi-Fi.

Just tried out my Stereo paired Sonos One‘s together wird my HomePod over AirPlay 2 in my Office.
All three played nice together, as long as i didn‘t pause and then restart again. After that they were playing asyncrounous.

Of course I did. So you’re saying, like HomePod, I can from across the room give voice commands to Sonos and it directly calls up Apple Music without needing another device?

They mean with voice control - the point of a speaker with a voice assistant is that you don't have to use a device to access its features, you use your voice. HomePod supports Apple Music control, Sonos supports Spotify/Amazon/etc via Alexa.

Uh, Sonos supports Apple Music -- and it has since Apple Music's inception.
Not with voice control, which is the point.

Is this the official Apple name for the interface?
If not, could be nice to refer to it as the AirPlay Chooser for long-time Apple (Mac OS) users! ;)
The official name is Airplay picker, yes.

Yup. And for me that’s huge not having to use another device.

How do I get the Home app to recognize my Playbase in order to add it as an accessory?
Press the + in the upper right corner in the Home App. Then something like „Add device“ appears. Select this one and then the option of adding without code. My Devices are set to German so i don‘t know the exact naming in englisch iOS Version.

I just bought two Ones (lol). I don't want Alexa either, but I did want AirPlay. You don't have to set up Alexa, which, by default, leaves the microphone off.

Uh, see above.

To be fair, your original post didn't say that you were referring to the lack of voice control for Apple Music. You just said "No Apple Music" means that Sonos is of no interest to you. It sounds like the HomePod is perfect for you since it only works with Apple Music. For those of us who want to be able to use voice control with music services other than Apple Music, we can use Sonos products now. Life is good.

Me Waiting on Bose 20 years from now for Airplay 2

But I think you can buy one Sonos One. Then, all your older Sonos should work with AirPlay. I’m not sure if this works good or not because I haven’t tried, but I hope so.
