If I say “play music in the lounge” to Siri, it gets confused as my Apple TV and Sonos speakers are both labelled as being in the lounge, so I just get silence. If I select the speakers on my phone it all works perfectly

I was wondering about that, as my TV and Sonos are both called Living Room. I'll try when I get home. I guess worst case scenario, I rename the TV "Living Room Apple TV."

Can you pair 2 sonos speakers as a stereo pair in the home up?
Or when airplaying to 2 sonos ones gets you 2 times mono sound?
I see my stereo paired Sonos One‘s as one speaker in the home App, but it is definitely stereo sound that is playing on it. Just tried it out with „Every you and every me“ by Placebo.

How are people getting the Sonos speakers into the HomeApp? Post #43 is a dead end.

So yes this now works on my Sonos Speakers ...

BUT

I have 5 speakers all together, 2 in my bedroom and 3 in my living room.

The issue is my bedroom is a Sonos One and Play:1 ... and my living room is a Play:5 along with 2 Play:1's (in stereo)

Now when I want my whole house playing I choose the living room Play:5 and bedroom ONE

BUUUUT When I proceed to say turn off my living room Play:5 (that also has the two Play:1's in stereo attached to it) The bedroom ONE then takes over those living room Play:1's and now the only speaker not playing is the Play:5

So the assigned group's that you assign in the Sonos App DO NOT Stick once you move over to the Apple Music App and turn on and off those assigned rooms.

I KNEW this was gonna be an issue for some reason and that this would not work right.

Anyone see this or find the way around to keep the "Grouped" speakers assigned to the main speaker when picking your room or locations in the Apple Music app???

Thanks

Forgive a possibly stupid question - what's the difference been using Airplay 2 and the Sonos app to play music? I've been using the app to play my iTunes music from my iPhone 6 and it's worked well. Does airplay mean I can ask sonos to play a specific song from my play list?

Also, Sonos announced last year that Siri was also coming to Sonos. Is this now dead in the water?

You can’t use voice controls everything has to be done in an external device
That is true, but you can use Siri to start playing Music on the Sonos devices. Just tried it with my HomePod.

Did you upgrade the Sonos App to the newest version?

Have you installed the update on your Sonos devices through the Sonos App?

Are you able to AirPlay to your Sonos devices?

Then Post 43 should work, at least it worked for others.

Nevermind. Rebooted the phone, now it showed up.

Still wish it showed up in the list like the HomePods and AppleTVs do.

Not sure if this integration helps or hurts. Mixed environment here; Play:5, Play:3, Play:1(gen 1), and HomePod

So you can say "Hey Siri" to a Sonos Play:One and add items to your calendar, control homekit devices, set reminders, timers, alarms?

There's no Siri on Sonos, but Siri can control Sonos - so saying "Hey Siri, play Dire Straits in the living room" would work if you have added your Sonos to the living room in Homekit.

How long till it times out. I had music paused and then it wasn't connected to any speakers after I hit play.

This is kind of what I am afraid of. Will be able to test when I get home today to see if mine acts in a similar fashion.

Nope, that's what my iPhone is for. I'm not looking for a whole-house smart speaker voice assistant. I'm looking for AirPlay direct to my Sonos set up.

Also, it's a Sonos One, not a Sonos Play:One -- that would make it really confusing ;)

Paired Sonos speakers will play stereo - you can pair play:1, play:3, play:5 and One. You can't pair the connects, or the playbar/playbase/beam.

You can adjust that in "settings\airplay". You can find "Settings" under the "More" button in the app.

So it would be possible to AirPlay sound from my Apple tv to a stereo pair of Sonos 5 speakers?

Or perhaps even 2 Sonos one’s and a Sonos Beam at the same time?

What about the Sonos Sub? If i AirPlay to 2 Sonos one’ s In stereo, Will the sub kick in?

I just tried out the first part of your question: It is indeed possible to AirPlay sound to my stereo paired Sonos One‘s from my :apple:TV 4K. As i do not have a Sonos Sub i added my HomePod to the mix for some extra bass. :D

The Sonos article mentions iPhone and iPad -- not sure why it wouldn't work for ATV.

Watch on your iPhone or iPad. Listen on Sonos.
AirPlay lets you watch videos on apps like YouTube, Hulu, Netflix, and many others and pipe the sound throughout your home on Sonos.

Curl up in bed with your iPad and an episode of Westworld on HBO Now with sound on your Sonos One (or better yet, a stereo pair of them). Show your friend that hilarious YouTube video on your iPhone and make sure he catches the punchline when you send the sound to your new Sonos Beam.

and

That means that even non-AirPlay compatible speakers like Playbar or Play:1 can reap the sonic benefits of our AirPlay 2 integration, provided they’re grouped with one of our newer, AirPlay-friendly devices in the Sonos app.

As far as various speakers kicking in, they would have to be grouped together to work as far as I can tell.

How can a HomePod compete (only Airplay and closed to Apple Music), with this Sonos thas has compatibility for everything?

With this Sonos option in the market, makes no sense to buy the Apple...

Sure it doesn't.

Let's see how it works with switching sound from their speakers to say AppleTV or AirPods from whatever Mac system you're transmitting sound over AirPlay 2 from?

Good move by Sonos. Hopefully these will outsell HomePod by a large margin, so Apple's increasingly closed ecosystem will come back to bite them in the bum.

LMAO not likely but we'll see.

1. Alexa. Will all its benefits there are issues/oddities that NEVER go explained from Amazon.
- Maniacle laughs at various times of day/night and at random; never prompted from commands
- let's not forget repeated issues of recording without commanding Alexa to do so and Alexa randomly SENDS elsewhere.
- there is a known Inaudible to human hears hack that can send commands to Alexa to execute or enable a skill.

Personally ... I was VERY scorned having a limited edition Play:1 that cost more than the average Play:1. After hearing unclear support for Airplay 2 both in official announcements and Sonos' forums which has over 200+ page counts of people saying yes or no for legacy Sonos devices from November's announcement in 2017 until early May 2018 I was done. Sold my Play:1 smooth all-black limited edition (which looked VERY similar to the One in black) for the same price I bought it with FULL disclose!

I'll be buying the Apple HomePod next week Friday. I'm not a fan of Alexa.

PS: Apple please make Siri recognize and respond ONLY to the owners voice (the one that initiated setup) PLEASE!

It doesn’t show up in my home app.. do I have to add it manualy? Running iPad on 11.4.1.

/Edit: I had to add it manually, and now it shows up. AMAZING!

But what‘s this: It‘s not possible to add speakers to a scene? I was hoping to create a scene that would play a certain playlist upon arrival, but it seems impossible. Sad.

Annoying Sonos, their centerpiece Playbar, not included in any of their current upgrades. Need to purchase something additional. Hard time believing the Playbar does not have enough system to handle Airplay2. These high priced systems are making me change my whole concept of streaming music and WiFi speakers. Seems the old school wired house, connect a simple Dot or used Apple iPhone via a cable sounding better everyday. The other option, connect a bunch of inexpensive Echos, and move on. Pretty annoying to say the least.

I have a playbar and an old pair of play:1's ...can I buy two of the newer play:1's, pair one of them with my old system, and then use the spare old play:1, and the spare new play:1 and put those into a different room ad have airplay in both rooms? or do we need two new play:1's in order for airplay to work? Sorry, my wording is a little confusing.

No, it most definitely still makes sense. The HomePod competes because it is an amazing speaker. Tens of millions of people use Apple Music. Your statement is what makes no sense.
[doublepost=1531340514][/doublepost]This is not just great news for Sonos users, but also for HomePod fans, because I think it means that Apple will be working harder to create an entire ecosystem of HomePod speakers with a greater range of features and music providers. My gut feeling is that Apple simply wanted the HomePod to be exclusive with Apple Music for the first year or so, and then will be opening it up. Fingers crossed...
