Well screw me for buying a Play:3 new last year. $255 wasted. Anyone want a used one? Time to buy a HomePod.
People get so bent out of shape... Truthfully there are only two music services that matter, Spotify and Apple Music. Pandora maybe but Alexa doesn't even support Pandora for multiroom. Everyone is acting like on Sonos/Alexa I have access to ALL THESE OTHER MUSIC SERVICES when in reality it's just Spotify. If you like Spotify go with Alexa/GH, if you like Apple Music get a HomePod. Both the HomePod and Sonos have access to the exact same content now when you're not using voice control because of AirPlay. To be fair, your original post didn't say that you were referring to the lack of voice control for Apple Music. You just said "No Apple Music" means that Sonos is of no interest to you. It sounds like the HomePod is perfect for you since it only works with Apple Music. For those of us who want to be able to use voice control with music services other than Apple Music, we can use Sonos products now. Life is good.
That was a limited time offer. MSRP is back to $400 for two of them, though you can still find them deeply discounted on Amazon, eBay, etc.
I would definitely pick this over the HomePod if I do end up getting any smart speaker though.
What do you think is "crippled" about the Homepod but not about using two Sonos Ones with Airplay 2? They both allow the same apps to Airplay.

Does not work with a PlayBar/Stereo-Rear pair setup. From what I understand, a Play:1 and Sonos:One will not pair as as the rear speakers in a HT setup. But I think you can buy one Sonos One. Then, all your older Sonos should work with AirPlay. I’m not sure if this works good or not because I haven’t tried, but I hope so.
Ditto.I updated my Sonos this morning, and was able to AirPlay to them, but I couldn't figure out how to add them to the Home app? I'm relatively new to HomeKit and smart speakers, so don't judge me too harshly![]()
In what way is Google Play music better than Spotify or AM?For you to say that Apple Music and Spotify are the only ones that matter is simply ignorant. Everybody uses the services that make sense for them. Just because you don't use a service doesn't mean it "doesn't matter" to everybody else. In my home, for example, we use Google Play Music, Pandora, and Tune In heavily.

Just downloaded and streaming spotify thru play 5, base and one. Thank you Sonos.

No Apple Music means no interest for me.
No doubt this could hurt HomePod sales...
Well I guess you are interested then because it does.
You of course can use Apple Music with the Sonos system...
If I say “play music in the lounge” to Siri, it gets confused as my Apple TV and Sonos speakers are both labelled as being in the lounge, so I just get silence. If I select the speakers on my phone it all works perfectly
You didn't really answer the question. Airplay2 added some functionality to the Sonos speakers (of which I have a bunch), but Airplay2 added those same features to the Homepod. Maybe you're doing all the things you mentioned above using the Sonos app, but I don't see what that has to do with the scope of this thread. What did Airplay2 bring to your Sonos setup that you couldn't do before today? The Sonoses play MY music library from MY own server at home. No intermediate iPhone with AirPlay needed.
The Sonoses play a gazillion of Radiostations around the world just on their own, my iPhone is just kind of remote to switch between the stations. I know, the HomePod plays Apple One radio (or whatever) I do not need a nanny to tell me what I have to listen to.
Who wants a stylus, if you have your fingers - who wants AirPlay if you have a connected speaker.
As soon as the HomePod (I would gladly invest in two of them) do the same - get uncrippled - we will be in the game.
