I am pretty excited about this, mainly for easily being able to use the speakers without the sonos app, can't wait to test it out when I get home.

I updated my Sonos this morning, and was able to AirPlay to them, but I couldn't figure out how to add them to the Home app? I'm relatively new to HomeKit and smart speakers, so don't judge me too harshly :)

Well screw me for buying a Play:3 new last year. $255 wasted. Anyone want a used one? Time to buy a HomePod.

I also have an Play 3. Didn’t they say if you have (buy) one of the new speakers, like a new gen Play 1, that it will be able to use Airplay 2 to broadcast to the last gen speakers?

To be fair, your original post didn't say that you were referring to the lack of voice control for Apple Music. You just said "No Apple Music" means that Sonos is of no interest to you. It sounds like the HomePod is perfect for you since it only works with Apple Music. For those of us who want to be able to use voice control with music services other than Apple Music, we can use Sonos products now. Life is good.
People get so bent out of shape... Truthfully there are only two music services that matter, Spotify and Apple Music. Pandora maybe but Alexa doesn't even support Pandora for multiroom. Everyone is acting like on Sonos/Alexa I have access to ALL THESE OTHER MUSIC SERVICES when in reality it's just Spotify. If you like Spotify go with Alexa/GH, if you like Apple Music get a HomePod. Both the HomePod and Sonos have access to the exact same content now when you're not using voice control because of AirPlay.

That was a limited time offer. MSRP is back to $400 for two of them, though you can still find them deeply discounted on Amazon, eBay, etc.

I would definitely pick this over the HomePod if I do end up getting any smart speaker though.

Although, Sonos now (I think ever since the two-for-price-of-one-Homepod deal) offers bundles at slight savings, including two Ones for $379, only 30 bucks more than one Homepod. I'm a Homepod owner and fan, but it's tempting to grab some Ones so as to expand AirPlay 2 coverage throughout my house...

What do you think is "crippled" about the Homepod but not about using two Sonos Ones with Airplay 2? They both allow the same apps to Airplay.

Probably was referring to a speaker that on works inherently with one music service without need to keep an iPhone/iPad around. That would be crippled compared to speakers that can use over 50 music services INHERENTLY in them.

For you to say that Apple Music and Spotify are the only ones that matter is simply ignorant. Everybody uses the services that make sense for them. Just because you don't use a service doesn't mean it "doesn't matter" to everybody else. In my home, for example, we use Google Play Music, Pandora, and Tune In heavily.

But I think you can buy one Sonos One. Then, all your older Sonos should work with AirPlay. I’m not sure if this works good or not because I haven’t tried, but I hope so.
Does not work with a PlayBar/Stereo-Rear pair setup. From what I understand, a Play:1 and Sonos:One will not pair as as the rear speakers in a HT setup.

Ditto.

In what way is Google Play music better than Spotify or AM?

Edit: Sonos and Amazon don't even support Google Play music via voice control, why are you even bringing it up...

Correct, you can't pair a Play1 and a Sonos One as rear speakers. Think question is if you have a Sonos One, will all your other speakers work with Airplay 2 or not. I will be able to test this afternoon, I have 2 Sonos One speakers as my rear, and numerous other sonos speakers.

Just downloaded and streaming spotify thru play 5, base and one. Thank you Sonos.

You've been able to do this with Spotify Connect for a long time. It's more useful to access the missing parts in Apple Music (e.g. the mixes), or other apps that don't exist for Sonos. Or if you just want to stream youtube there, I guess.

What do you think is "crippled" about the Homepod but not about using two Sonos Ones with Airplay 2? They both allow the same apps to Airplay.

The Sonoses play MY music library from MY own server at home. No intermediate iPhone with AirPlay needed.
The Sonoses play a gazillion of Radiostations around the world just on their own, my iPhone is just kind of remote to switch between the stations. I know, the HomePod plays Apple One radio (or whatever) I do not need a nanny to tell me what I have to listen to.

Who wants a stylus, if you have your fingers - who wants AirPlay if you have a connected speaker.

As soon as the HomePod (I would gladly invest in two of them) do the same - get uncrippled - we will be in the game.

Can you pair 2 sonos speakers as a stereo pair in the home up?
Or when airplaying to 2 sonos ones gets you 2 times mono sound?

If I say “play music in the lounge” to Siri, it gets confused as my Apple TV and Sonos speakers are both labelled as being in the lounge, so I just get silence. If I select the speakers on my phone it all works perfectly

Ugghhh, the update screwed up one of my Play:1's somehow. No sound coming from it; it blinks orange when you hit the play button on the speaker itself. The room settings say "Playbase + LS + ?" now as well. I didn't have time to fix it because I was just home for lunch and had to get back to work.

Maybe change the names? This happens with Alexa also. She will comment back to you that there are several devices that share that name.

I have Sonos speakers and lights in the same rooms. So I have it labeled as such:

Master Bedroom Speaker
Master Bedroom Light X

You didn't really answer the question. Airplay2 added some functionality to the Sonos speakers (of which I have a bunch), but Airplay2 added those same features to the Homepod. Maybe you're doing all the things you mentioned above using the Sonos app, but I don't see what that has to do with the scope of this thread. What did Airplay2 bring to your Sonos setup that you couldn't do before today?
