Nah, Christian Bale, hands down. He's got the wild eye and soul-searing passion that he brings to the screen.

This.

Christian Bale, one of the few who are "an actor's actor" in Hollywood. There is so much lousy acting going on these days. Bale is always a breath of fresh air. This guy takes his craft seriously.

Nobody better to write this than Sorkin. Put Bale in as the lead and you've got a very classy and potentially Oscar-worthy feature on your hands...

Sorkin and Jobs actually did have a bit of history with each other, as Jobs had tried to convince Sorkin to write a film for Pixar, a proposal Sorkin declined because he didn't "think [he could] make inanimate objects talk."
Quote:

STEVE: Once you make them talk they won't be inanimate.

Classic Jobs. Amazing that he knew everyone else's business better than even they did, and could see possibilities where, for some reason, no one else saw them.

What are you smoking, LTD? Aaron Sorkin is an incredible writer and he was telling Jobs that he didn't want to do it in a very polite way. He didn't say animated movies don't work because the characters are inanimate. He said that personally - he couldn't/wouldn't write characters like that.

To do something well - you have to be willing to do to whatever it takes. You don't have to DO anything it takes - just be willing. Sorkin wasn't willing and was gracious about passing on any such project.

This isn't about Jobs knowing better than Sorkin at all...

As long as it's done tastefully I don't mind. Social Network was a brilliant film carried by a brilliant script and director. If David Fincher were to come on board this could be brilliant. Doubt he will as he's got a few projects coming up already.

As for sony product placement, i think they could get away with it as long as Steve doesn't have a vaio laptop on his desk or a sony ericsson phone after the release of an iPhone then it won't be a problem.

He doesn't need to worry about the first bad Pixar movie. Cars 2 was already made.

Otherwise - I agree with others that it is too soon. Given the family time to recover. A few years at least.

The only thing I would ever want to see about the live of Steve Jobs is a BBC report. And not before five years in the future. Everything else can be considered to be ripped of way too quickly and ending up to be an unprofessional copy of opinions instead of facts.

But who cares. Even though there are lots of intelligent people on this planet, some hundretthousand people will go watch whatever crap comes out so they can proudly say that it was a success. No matter how sad this all is.

Meh.

I think it's perspective. Some might see his death as a tragedy and something that should be mourned. Others see it as a way to celebrate the life an someone who had profound impact. Both are right.

The problem with Sorkin is not only does he not "get" technology and technology people, he seems to have a low opinion of them. Watch the Social Network again and ask yourself what Sorkin thinks of tech people.

The Zuckerberg in that movie is not even CLOSE to real life. Watch any interview with him and you'll see that he's obviously not as weird as he is portrayed. He's basically just a regular guy, while the movie makes him look disturbed and socially inept.

Is this how we want Steve Jobs portrayed?

To be fair - Zuckerberg has come a long way in being better at public speaking.. but in the early days - not so much.

But The Social Network was infotainment. It was a glossed over version of history.

Call me crazy - but I think Wallace Shawn might do a script justice. Much like his My Dinner With Andre - I could see Isaacson's book coming to life very simply as a pseudo-documentary featuring a reporter and someone playing Jobs telling the story. Literally bringing the book "to life."

It clearly wouldn't be the "thrill" of a movie that some would want and expect - but it would be interesting to watch.

I wonder if Isaacson will ever release an audio book version that has someone reading cut in with the actual interview clips of Jobs "in his own words"

if there's going to be a movie, then please god let this be true.

Hands down the greatest writer in Hollywood, by a country mile.

I wonder how much history Sorkin will rewrite for this screenplay.

He turned Zuckerberg into a dork who created Facebook because he missed his ex, even though the guy never broke up with his girl in real life.

He'll probably have a giant iPad with arms and legs talk to Jobs during an acid trip scene.

I've never seen a thread with so many down votes. Probably because of the amount of inane and negative comments. Seriously.

But here's mine. I think Sorkin would be perfect to write this. He's one of the better writers in Hollywood right now for the intelligent audience. He would be able to add a certain flair to the dialog that would give it drama beyond the geekyness it could suffer from. It would be great if whomever wrote it would focus on the turbulent relationships and the creative obsession that drove Jobs to great success. I'd hate it to be a movie about Apple with Steve as a main character.
