Sorkin's movie writing is a tad 'meh'.
Now on TV as a mini series. THAT I would watch. And if they were going for more of a 4-6 'hour' gig, they wouldn't have to compress as much.

I would only ever consider Noah Wyle for the part. You have to take in to consideration how close Jobs and Wyle got following the film, the peak of which the public saw when Noah impersonated Steve before (I believe) MacWorld.
Trouble is that Noah is currently on a TV show and who knows what other deals he might have already agreed to. So he could simply be unavailable. And I don't see Sony waiting years and years for him to free to do it just to have him. They will want to strike now while folks are still very interested in Steve.
So something like Jim Sturgess and Christian Bale could end up being what happens. And while you say no way, tons of folks won't feel the same. In fact for many of them it would be more like "Noah who?" because he's mostly known for TV and after ER ended, nothing of extreme note (Falling Skies is very niche in terms of audience)

Come on!
If master idiot SUCKERBERG and his 1000 times more idiotic FACEBLOK deserved a movie, how come Steve should not get one ASAP?
The whole Facebook thing got a movie more on the merits of the betrayal story than the actual site.
----------
Why does it need to be a movie again?
For the same reason Hollywood does all biopics. To make money.
Which is also why they won't wait. If they hang onto this for years then folks just won't care anymore. Start it now, fast track it for 2 years from now tops and folks might still give a dang about 'the real steve'

My vote goes to Viggo Mortensen, though Bale is not a bad choice. I like Noah Wyle, but he's just not that good an actor.
Noah is fine as an actor. Did a great Steve. But he's currently on a TV show that doesn't seem to be going anywhere so he might not be available and he certainly wouldn't be able to lose all the weight needed to really show the role. And might not want to. (CGI looks like it for such things).
Whereas Bale lives for such things. Seems like he will take roles based on the need to turn himself into a walking skeleton.
Case in point.
