Sony, look no more...

Oh man I can totally see Jim Carrey pulling this off

I was just wondering when this was going to happen yesterday, actually. I would say that it's a sign of respect to have a movie made about you, but it's really probably just about the money.

If it's going to be made,I want to see a filmmaker that's truly passionate about Apple and Steve Jobs making this movie though. Maybe then it would be excusable.

Sony would be inappropriate IMO. Why not Disney or Pixar since Steve was the largest shareholder in that Studio? Sony would just go and add a rootkit or some other DRM system, or prevent it being offered through iTunes or add some other level of control that would have Steve spinning in his grave.

I knew something like this had to appear in the news soon. I just hope they don't mess up, treat it well and get a good director to make the movie. The best person in my head is James Cameron, to me he's sort of the Steve Jobs of Hollywood.

Edit: On a second thought, even John Lasseter would be a good choice, since we would've also known Steve enough to treat the movie with respect.
That’s just, eck.

Watch some more film, please. Cameron would be one of the worst.

James Cameron, the Steve Jobs of Hollywood? That's insulting to the film industry.

I would think Disney would get first dips

I agree completely. But one question, what are 'dips'?

My vote for actor is Jeff Bridges! Remember 'Tucker'? I know you don't.

And the film industry is not insulted easily!

Oh no you don't.

If they do the movie wonder if it'll come out on Blu-Ray...

I'm in two minds about this.

Hmmmmmm....................................
.......................................
..................Not so sure a movie proposal is in good taste............

I want to vomit.

While I don't think the idea of a film based on (some aspect of) Jobs' history should be forbidden territory (at least at a more appropriate time than now), it sends to me shivers what sort of sentimental, vapid, thoughtless dreck Hollywood will possibly cook up. If this does happen, I hope to all things good and glorious that those involved with producing the movie approach the subject matter with tact and grace, but somehow I doubt that's going to happen.

Maybe bad taste

I think that this might be in bad taste to do this sort of movie. The book I have no issue with since it was announced while Steve was still alive.

Noah Wylie already did a good job in the Pirates of Silicon Valley. Granted they did take some liberty with some of the facts to make some things more entertaining, but some of what was shown was based on facts.

I just think that they are being greedy.

Somebody here said it was only a matter of time before somebody acquired the rights to this.... but that means only a matter of one day? Are you ****ing me, Sony? Have some respect, damn.

actors:

Christian Bale would be my first choice (see him in "The Machinist" or "The Fighter"), then Stanley Tucci (great character actor), Noah Wylie, Ashton Kutcher (can't act).

Director,

David Fincher ("The Social Network"), Darren Aronofsky ("Black Swan"), Steven Frears ("The Queen"), Tom Hooper ("The King's Speech") or maybe Ed Harris ("Pollack"),

but if I was going to pick, it would be Mike Mills ("Beginners"). He grew up in Berkeley, trained as a graphic artist, is married to a performance artist/actor/director and Berkeley girl Miranda July. I think he gets Steve.

John Malkovich is the closest celebrity I can think of that looks sort of like Jobs.

Does anybody else think it's even "possible" that the reason we had to wait such an unexplained amount of time for the new iPhone is because Steve secretly arranged for Apple to wait until he was "days from dying" to announce the iPhone 4S, so that his very last act -- dying -- could be used to boost Apple sales with the tremendous worldwide publicity he knew his death would bring? Wouldn't he want to pull the world's single greatest publicity stunt ever? No disrespect intended, I just think Steve Jobs would come up with a brilliant scheme like that. The convenient coincidence, with his mischievous picture on the front of Apple.com, I think he was getting the last laugh. Again.

Interesting theory, but not likely. Having lost both parents to cancer, their last days would not have been spent on sales strategy discussions - those days were spent on pain management and other hospice issues.

What I actually wonder is if Jobs had already passed when the keynote was being presented, and the announcement of his passing was delayed until the next day.

Nothing illegal or unethical about that, but it could explain some of the lack of enthusiam during the keynote. (Of course, there would be a lack of enthusiam if the presenters knew that Jobs was in the final stages - the lack doesn't in any way imply that he might already have been gone.)

Simply the knowledge that Jobs was at the "hospice" stage would mean that everyone knew that death was imminent, and the care was simply to make the last days as painless and humane as possible. (You don't worry about creating a morphine addiction - you dispense as much as is needed to alleviate the pain.)

I wouldn't mind a movie of steve jobs as long as it's the honest truth and not some BS to spruce it up. Would stop buying Sony products if they screw this up.

It should be done like this movie. A movie/documentary styled thing.

But the crazy thing is you could as easily make a heart-warming movie about people using Apple products for 20+ years and listening to his speeches. And that'd be short but still a very good description of his achievements.
Personally I liked the iPad2 keynote and it's "Year of iPad 1" video. Cause it shows how people integrate Apple products into their lives. These days you don't buy an Apple product. You buy a slice into the Apple ecosystem and way of life. Well that's what I'd like to believe. You're buying a whole new way of life.

And that's what is the essence of Jobs I believe. Visit the Apple store. And when you leave you have a whole new way of life. With products/services and change themselves to meet your needs. And you only have to spend money.
