Once you start thinking of getting that add-on lens, it's time to get an advanced point and shoot and call it a day.

They aren't add on lenses, they are complete cameras with much more powerful sensors, they have their own battery's and storage, you just use the phone to control them, like it's the body of SLR camera kind of thing.

They must be selling them as these two new products are the second gen versions.

It almost makes you feel bad for Sony, because these are actually cool products, but you know no one is going to buy them

As opposed to Apple making inferior products that people purchase in droves. Life sure isn't fair.

No they are not dead, agree they are not as great as used to be,and they have lost the market to competitors on many products including TVs,stereos, etc but they still make some of the very best DSLR cameras, high end compact cameras, and both professional and high end compact video cameras.plus their gaming business and PS4 is printing money.
So if you call that dead, you have no clue.

Well, they still breathing. :D
Sorry man, SONY for years have been obsolete on the consumer electronic market. No hits and many misses.
Sure they are a gigantic corporation with several busineses so I don't foresee them going away anytime soon but I doubt they will regain their old poise.

So the Playstation 1, 2, 3 and 4 have been complete flops then? Along with their mobile phones, camera's, TV's.

… great killer / interesting products … Sony INVENTED mobile music gadgets …

I tried more than a few Sony and other Walkman-like devices, none of the early models impressed me enough to make a purchase. The concept was highly desirable but the Sony devices lacked the quality that I wanted, and I didn't want to waste hard-earned money (from my first jobs) on an impulse buy.

Experiences with JVC were consistently pleasing – most notably, an RC-M70 in 1981 – so eventually I got something better (for me) than the Sony Walkman: a JVC CQ-F2K. Good quality sound and construction, I used it for years.

After around five years, when the JVC finally became irreparable: again I spent plenty of time shopping around, none of the Sony models were compelling. I got an Aiwa HS-PX101.

I can't recall the exact reasons for never purchasing Sony (I had some good experiences with Sony hand-me-downs). There was, at least, a very strong impression that the company had a disregard for compatibility; I suspected that it was more interested in my money than in providing lasting pleasure through its products.

I am not a gamer. Playstation is nice I'll give you that.
the other products you mentioned, I rather use other brands.

Still proved you wrong though, because you claimed the Playstation was never a hit by extension of your comment, and if you know anything you'll know that the Playstation has been the complete total and utter opposite of not being a hit.

To those few Sony haters here : you guys know Steve Jobs was an admirer of Sony brand himself,no? he even wanted to put Mac OS on Sony Vaio computers at some point..it's true current Sony is nowhere as unique and successful as they were in 80s and 90s,but no one can ignore their history in technology inventions, and high quality products.

Not sure you are proving anything. SONY has hardly being on top of their game in the last 10 plus years on various segments. Sorry to say because I used to highly regard them are among the best but not anymore.

So your opinion is that Sony Playstation has never been a hit and Sony were never at the top of it's game with Playstation, over the last 10 years, and that includes the Playstation 2 in that timeframe I believe?

Agree. I was using full screen mobile devices 12+ years ago too. What Apple did was two things:

1. First to mass market with capacitive touch screen

Plus:

2. Pinch to zoom.

This combo blew EVERYONE who tried it away.

Apple's always excelled in UI and them putting above 1+2 together let them (briefly) win.

But like in the 90's, if they keep up with this proprietary BS they're gonna get creamed just like they (and Sony) got creamed back then. Sony seems capable of learning. Apple I'm not so sure.

You get creamed if you do not make your system non commodity creating a very high barrier to entry; basically making you the vessel for someone else's profit. That someone being Google. So, Apple would be insane to touch that.

Its much better than they become a niche very differentiated 10% player in the huge global market with excellent profit, than go the commodity route. Most PC makers have been destroyed in the last 10 years because they didn't offer anything but indistinguishable hardware.

Yeah, they all look so much like 'Blackberry' handsets

They look more like a cross between a PDA and a flip phone, not sure that's a good thing ;-).

The Z3 is the phone I will be getting if the iPhone 6 disappoints in any kinda of way.

My gf has the Z1 and it's really well built, fast, intuitive and by far the best non-stock version of Android I have seen. Sometimes I wonder why Apple don't make their phone waterproof for example, like Sony. Probably so they can carry on charging for all the water damaged phones they likely see but it's a bit silly really.

This is a new one on me. Can you define pls?

OMG, I remember having an Aiwa, the sound quality and bass boost were brilliant. Never knew Sony bought them out though.

They were very cool, you could remove the flip covers totally if you wanted and just on screen controls.

Are you not seeing the tiny touch screen + stylus + physical keyboard?

Nope, no tiny touch screen, and yes it had a stylus as back in 2002 not many devices outside industry had capacitive touch screens, so far as I know. And you could remove the keyboard.

Back in those days we all loved physical keys, I still miss them.

I had the Sony Walkman 10th anniversary edition :) beautiful piece of tech that was. Still got it somewhere although it stopped working a while ago now.... Ah I remember geeking out over those JVC's and Aiwa's (what ever happened to Aiwa), the different built in Dolby and the different play heads, chrome metal tapes I think it was, and then you had the ultimate CD Walkmans.

Apple rumoured to release a watch, everyone jumps on the bandwagon...

While I'm not impressed by the SmartWatches, you do realize that this is the SmartWatch's 3rd iteration and that they've released their 1st version far before Apple rumours started.

Secondly, as much as I am an Apple fanboy, I give credit where its due. For people saying Sony hasn't released anything worthwhile or top of their game clearly has NOT been paying attention to their product lineup. They have been a top camera sensor supplier and make some VERY well reviewed cameras.

Apple needs to redesign the iphone. The iphone seems to be the king of bezels.
